What the hell just happened? -
I’d rather think of it as Reds lose, not Cubs win. Get used to rooting for the Cubs over the next few years. There will probably be many games where we're rooting for them to play spoiler.

That reaction and the first at bat especially makes you think he's not seeing the ball well. He did double earlier but when guys are on base he suddenly can't see?? I don't know man. The guy has to have some hunger for those steaks. Well idk, he struck out looking on a pitch right down the middle in first ab and then looked surprised that he struck out on a pitch over the plate in his second ab. It's not like Wain is trying to or really able to strike a lot of guys out.

I don't think Bickford was DFA'd only because of his two bad major league outings. We have coaches that see these guys every day in the minors. The Brewers had multiple seasons of watching the guy and they knew or they thought they knew what they had in the guy and whether he was worth a spot on the 40 man. I think the fact that they actually didn't have much time watching him is what lead to him being released. He pitched a total of 2 innings above high A for the Brewers. Injuries, his weed suspension and COVID are the reasons he never got to show what he had with the Brewers. The fact we lost this guy so we could call up Zack Godley really sucks but you can't win 'em all. Well part of that is due to Covid last year and pitching in simulated games at Appleton as that kind of took the place of the minors last year. But good point, they never really did get a look at him facing AAA or AA hitters and that probably led to a poor evaluation. -

While I generally agree with everything you said, I have just an itsy-bitsy issue with the bolded one. This year, the "expanded rosters" of September are only 28 guys, not the 40 or so guys that Counsell has used to this advantage in the past. While it IS an advantage, it is not remotely as big of an advantage as it used to be. I still remember Doug Melvin (and others) trying to change the rule a decade ago (or longer) when the Brewers would be playing (and losing to) those teams with 38-40 guys on their roster while the Brewers kept to "maybe" 28 or 29 players. The disparity caused an unfair advantage, he said. Funny how that was exactly how the Brewers managed to have outstanding September runs over the last few years to make the playoffs. Edit just to add this: Now, MAYBE the Brewers play "Roster Shuffle" and continually call up and send guys down in September to get fresh arms, etc. although I'm not sure how legal that is or how well it would work with requirements to be in the minors for 10-days (or whatever.) If so, well then Counsell would be working his magic once again. I kind of think that undersells the teams of 2018 and 2019. Having a few extra arms for blowouts and extra defensive replacements and pinch runners wasn't why those teams won. The heavy lifting was still done by the core group of players.

I feel like Yelich has had a reasonably high amount of ground ball hits down the left field line. I wonder why teams continue to use the huge shift on him.

John LaRossa is a 26 year old in high A ball with the Rattlers. He has now given up 49 earned runs in 34.2 innings. He was never a draft pick and has pitched in the minors only in this season. Was this a fan who won a contest or something and gets a free spot on the Timber Rattlers for a year? -
I remember when they were trying to get the funding for Miller Park……and of course these things always are difficult…….there was some discussion at the time to not do the roof to save money……and my thought at the time was…..” Then just don’t build it” It was so obvious to me that the roof was a game changer……especially in this climate. Oh absolutely. I can't imagine shelling out money to go to the amount of games I do to deal with freezing cold and rain delays. Or the idea that I might pay for a full game ticket on one day and instead end up with a 7 inning game on some other day that I can't make it too.

I always thought when I was a kid that just about all new ballparks would be like Miller Park and have a retractable roof and by now rainouts would be a very rare thing limited to just a few cities. Instead we have to deal with this day after day on road trips

Things like the catch rule kind of lead you back to thinking the best call is whatever call is made on the field and just to leave it at that unless a guy is clearly out of bounds or something. It just really seems to be a judgement call more than anything much like an offensive holding penalty or defensive pass interference. Replay review seems to do more harm than good.
