  1. Great move by the Mariners. Getting rid of Cano's albatross contract and only kicking in 20M? Yes please. Also, landing the highest drafted ever kid from Wisconsin as well. Nice Mets signaling they are going to make another run while their rotation is still together.
  2. Love the comments by Steans. Shows he's not afraid to take risks and learn from mistakes. This bodes very well for the future of the Brewers with Stearns putting this team together IMO.
  3. The Schoop trade didn't make sense at the time. He might have been acquired just to help against a team like the Dodgers in the playoffs with all their LHP. Instead, he didn't even reach base in the NLCS. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses.
  4. I also doubt Noah is actually on the trade block at this point.
  5. That's the issue. He doesn't have any trade value at the price that he will receive in arbitration. This is too big of a gamble with the Brewers payroll projected to be the highest in franchise history as it stands. Time to move forward.
  6. This is simply not the case. If teams are in a position to contend come mid-July they are more willing to overpay via trade for a postseason run. Because of this, there is generally a hotter market for the rental player amongest contending teams. Also, in Bumgarner's specific case, he's coming back from a injury/decline, so if he has a monster, bounce back to form first half, his trade value will skyrocket from where it's currently at.
  7. My guess is that 1 year of Bumgarner is near eqaul in value to 2 years of Paxton, so I feel the Brewers equilalent to what the Yankees gave up would be something like... RHP Brandon Woodruff, RHP Trey Supak and OF Troy Stokes. That's a price I'd be willing to pay. Unfortunately the Giants will want more.
  8. Some more fuel to the fire... https://www.tmj4.com/sports/baseball/milwaukee-brewers/trade-rumors-brewers-interested-in-syndergaard-bumgarner https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/sources-two-new-mlb-teams-enter-noah-syndergaard-trade-talks/301189792
  9. Yes, I do. If Madison Bumgarner is traded this offseason or even at the trade deadline, I can assure you that the headliner to any trade will be at least a Top 50 MLB prospect or young MLB equivalent. I'm sorry, but neither Zack Brown or Troy Stokes will qualify as such. Otherwise, the Giants would not even consider moving him. They'd be better off keeping him for 2019, offering him a QO and taking the comp pick. They would at least save face with their fan base. With that said, perhaps an offer that includes at least 2 of Corey Ray, Zack Brown and Domingo Santana could at least be a plausible starting point.
  10. What's to guarantee the Brewers that Brandon Woodruff doesn't turn into the next Wily Peralta? 78 IP 42 IP 38 IP Those are the total MLB innings pitched by Freddy Peralta, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes in 2018, respectively. Madison Bumgarner, when healthy, pitches more innings per season on average than those 3 did combined in 2018. Does any Brewer fan expect either of those 3 youngsters to even sniff 200 IP in 2019? Can a contender like the Brewers afford to endure the growing pains of all 3 of these players in their rotation next year? Even 2 of them? What I do know is that the Brewers can NOT afford the risk of signing an ACE of Mad Bum's caliber to a huge free agent contract in the future. Acquiring a pitcher like this on a short term contract during a contending window is a small market reality (a la Sabathia, Greinke, etc) I think Mad Bum would cost less this offseason then he would at the trade deadline. Something to consider.
  11. Brown and Stokes for MadBum is more ridiculous of an offer than the one that the Giants fan proposed. lol
  12. I would imagine he'd want Zack Greinke type money for an extension. If you are worried about health/decline, how many years would you be willing to give Bumgarner at about $32 million per season beyond 2019?
  13. Verlander was 33 when the Astros acquired him and rode him to their first ever World Series Championship. At 29 years old Bumgarner, IMO, is due for a huge bounce back season if he can stay healthy. Proposal: Brewers get: LHP Madison Bumgarner (1 year of arb- $12M) 2B Joe Panik (2 years of arb- $5M) Giants get: RHP Brandon Woodruff (5 years of control- Less than $1M) OF Domingo Santana (3 years of arb- Less than $1M) 2B Jonathan Schoop (One year of arb- $10M) Could also take the 2B out of the deal completely if Giants balked at the idea, and then simply non-tender Schoop. Perez can man 2B until Keston Huira is ready at the All-Star break. 2019 Rotation LHP Madison Bumgarner RHP Jhoulys Chacin RHP Corbin Burnes RHP Freddy Peralta RHP Chase Anderson/Zach Davies/Jimmy Nelson/Free Agent With our offense, this would make us serious contenders once again in a tough NL Central Division.
  14. I agree that there is plenty of risk involved in aquiring Bumgarner, but sometimes teams on the cusp have to take those risks to put them over the top.
  15. I think Schoop has pretty much no trade value at what his final year of salary arbitration control will likely cost for 2019 (about $10M). With that said, I would not be against "throwing" him into a trade if the other team has any interest as it would help Stearns save face somewhat. However, I think a lot of folks are overvaluing Brandon Wooodruff a bit. I'd be against moving Burnes or Peralta at all, but I would be on board for trading a package headlined by Woodruff/Santana for Bumgarner. The Brewers were knocking on the door of the World Series last year. Our franchise of nearly 50 years has exactly one World Series appearance. Madison Bumgarner is the type of pitcher that could be the difference-maker in not only getting us to a World Series, but winning one.
  16. It's always about the money.
  17. They shouldn't have a "punishment" for any of this. There could be any number of circumstances that arise that would force someone to re-sell their tickets if they are not able to attend a game. Once the ticket is purchased, it should be the property of the individual and they should have the right to do with it as they wish, IMO.
  18. Starting Davies today with about 12 hours notice to someone who wasn't even on the roster would be advocating punting today's game in essence. It's apparent that Counsell is sticking to his plan for today and sticking with Miley as the starter. Today's game is pivotal and huge. Brewers HAVE to wake up the bats and find a way to beat Clayton Kershaw once again.
  19. We are not in the position to punt a game so that we can have a plan to win both home games instead. We need to win today.
  20. I agree that having Schoop in the starting lineup strengthens our bench. lol
  21. I agree with this 100%. There are 2 built in off days per 7 game series. Each win is worth it's weight in gold. Counsell should use his bullpen like there is no tomorrow, if he feels it's necessary.
