  1. Also sign Starlin Castro as a 1B/3B RHB I'm a little leery of the cost for Castro. He made $12M last year. I don't think the Marlins give him the $16M option, but he may be too expensive for a bench player. I like Neil Walker for around $2.5M. SW who plays 1B-3B and can fill in at 2B if needed. If the corner infield is Thames and moose then the backup should be a platoon match and walker hits righties Better than lefties. I don’t see anyone wanting Castro as an everyday player so I doubt he be expensive l. But if he is then get another righty like Jedd Gyorko
  2. With a weak farm system I think the best way to compete is the mid-level free agent market and spend to keep key pieces: Sign: Jose Iglesias, Steve Vogt, Wade Miley Resign: Moustakas, Pomeranz, Gio and/ or Lyles Non tender/try to trade: Shaw, Arcia, Nelson (MILB deal), Anderson (option decline) Minor league deals: Jeffress, Nelson, Hernan
  3. I dont pretend to know how it went behind the scenes, but Villar would be a big SS upgrade. I assume he will be traded with only 1 year left and Baltimore still sucking next year
  4. I would rather roll the dice on Nick Gordon than sign Iglesias or Mercer. I think the Brewers and the Twins match up rather well for a trade like this as the Brewers could offer a few different options that I think the Twins may like. Nick Gordon hasn’t done much in the minors to show he’s ready to produce in the majors. Maybe adrianza instead
  5. No doubt it’d be nice to have Grandal back. Also no doubt he will get a big contract. I hope the brewers try to retain him but stay reasonable. If he gets too expensive, pairing a cheap option like Vogt with Pina would be adequate and leave money for 3B, SS and pitching
  6. Except both teams have to agree for a trade to occur. With the weak FA class, and many other holes to fill with a crap farm system, hopefully they are able to save some $ yet still upgrade. Iglesias and Mercer are 2 options
  7. Why’d they send down Gamel if Grisham’s just going to sit on the bench most of the time?
  8. 1B is open after next year. Move him there if he sucks next year
  9. Harder to sign guys when they aren’t free agents
  10. Dare I say...Eric Sogard?
  11. Moose 2-18 vs Wacha. Not sure if that's the reason or not though. I feel like finding a way to get Perez in there is the reason
  12. I am thinking they will get stuck with him by default just because they have so many holes to fill and not a crazy amount of money to do it. I figure the only way they make a change at SS is if they rearrange deck chairs and sign someone with better offense, but not as good defensively. If you are going to get stuck with a black hole offensively no matter what Arcia probably isn't the worst because he really good on defense usually. That being said if they say resign Moustakas, but let Grandal go that is some scary offense on the lower half. Pina/Arcia/Pitcher? Yikes...especially when Thames having a down year isn't exactly a shocking possibility...or Braun/Grisham disappointing. Maybe there is a decent offensive utility guy to pick up incase we really are dying for the offense over defense. Which probably isn't a bad plan when they keep getting sick of Arcia and try to get someone else in there...well news flash Saladino and Co. suck offensively and aren't any better defensively. Thus, we always find our way back to Arcia. If not Forsythe, maybe Brock holt-although a righty to platoon with Shaw would be needed
  13. They might be stuck with Arcia due to Didi being too $ and the only worthwhile free agent starter out there. A good idea might be to sign Logan Forsythe to platoon with Shaw at 3B assuming moose isn’t resigned. Forsythe can play a little SS too
  14. Depends is Travis Shaw is a lost cause or this year is just a fluke
  15. Id they’re not willing to invest in pitching with a front end and back end rotation addition, they might as well go full on rebuild
  16. Moose is more replaceable so try to bring back Grandal. Then sign a platoon partner with Shaw, preferably one who can help out at SS. Thatd have to be Logan Forsythe for free agents.
  17. Woodruff, Davies, Anderson are the locks. Unless they’re willing to rebuild, they should bring in 2 FA pitchers: one cheaper (Gio, Lyles, Miley) and one to pair with Woodruff at the top (Keuchel, Ryu, etc.). There are a lot of FA SP this offseason and the other organizational depth can start in AAA or bullpen
  18. The everyday playing time will be good for Shaw. Having an actual backup SS should be good also, as long as CC can refrain from playing him too much
  19. If Shaw is back to form, he's the primary 3B, Moose at SS. If not... there are options. From off the top of my head: 1. Braun 3B, Moose SS 2. Moose 3B, Arcia SS 3. Erceg 3B, Moose SS 4. Moose 3B, Hager SS 5. Moose 3B, Saladino SS These are jokes I assume ?
  20. He’s gotta be hurting otherwise it’s dumb to sit him with days off coming up, including tomorrow
  21. Brault's slider is very meh, he's a very fastball-heavy pitcher. So it would actually make some sense to try Grisham today. We'll see though, hard to see Braun or Cain sitting...so unless Braun is ready for 1b, it isn't happening. Cain hurt his leg last night and CC likes that excuse to make picking a starting lineup easier the following day though
  22. Apparently there was not much interest in Freddy Galvis. He would have been an upgrade at utility IF, if not starting SSand surely wouldn’t have been a high cost considering the Jays want to play their prospects
