  1. Heyward would be a solid lead off guy already. But they may be like the brewers and not want OBP at the top either
  2. Could do that as well as upgrading the utility spot with a guy like Garcia too
  3. Greg Garcia would be a nice utility upgrade and a nice leadoff option with his 350+OBP
  4. I have a bold idea to not lead off a guy who doesn’t get on base very often
  5. This is a really good post that touches on a lot of great points. I also think the fact that Shaw has been primarily playing 1B in San Antonio is foreshadowing that a move like this may actually be ahead. I know it’s not ideal to lose a right-handed power bat from the roster, but I my sense is they would rather not waste two roster spots on a straight platoon at 1B (yes, I know Thames can stand in the OF in a pinch). If you move Aguilar and call up Shaw (assuming they believe he’s back to form) the positional flexibility all of a sudden looks much better among those that can play at the corner infield spots. Moustakas- 3B / 2B Shaw - 1B / 3B Grandal - C / 1B Thames - 1B Aguilar would fit better than Thames on a roster with Shaw though, for platoon reasons
  6. I may be crazy but his swing reminds me of Bagwell. I couldn’t agree more. Jeff Bagwell has been the Hiura swing comp in my mind for the past couple of years. I wouldn’t be shocked if Hiura fills out even more from a strength perspective and has a similar body comp as well. It’s sometimes forgotten this is what Jeff Bagwell looked like at 22 years old... And 23 years old... http://beckett-www.s3.amazonaws.com/news/news-content/uploads/2017/01/1991-Stadium-Club-Jeff-Bagwell-RC1.jpg I’m thinking Bagwell might have had some artificial help in filling out
  7. I’m sure Braun gets the day off tonight. With the sad offense and Aguilar hitting better and a high K pitcher on the mound I wonder if Thames starts in the outfield
  8. So I was unable to watch the game but looking at the box score and highlights, I can assume they pulled Chacin early enough to let the bullpen blow it? And why the crap was Burnes used in a non-blowout?
  9. Pitching is the top need, but Cain at the top is painful, and Thanes st lead off would stack the lefties. Miguel Rojas of the Marlins would be a decent leadoff option until Cain hopefully gets going. SS could use improvement over Arcia.
  10. Yeah Why the crap is he ever starting in LF? Rest Braun, rest Cain, but do it on different days and play gamel
  11. Im surprised also but in a positive way. Being a bad hitter at a bunch of positions isn’t that useful. Saladino will be better or at worst the same.
  12. Travis Shaw has options and a 570 OPS. Aguilar is a waste of a roster spot also.
  13. Of course Perez swings at ball 4 with a full count
  14. A utility infielder hitting like a utility infielder is expected (and yes could be replaced). A couple power corner IFs who are supposed to be middle of the order bats hitting like a utility infielder is a bigger issue
  15. Are you aware Shaw has options, has an OPS like 100 points lower, and doesn’t play nearly the defense Cain does?
  16. He should be our regular first baseman. He should be our first baseman against righties, and he has been
  17. I’m surprised Braun’s played so many consecutive games.
  18. Not an upgrade? 2017- 38 hr .270 .355 .529 .883 131 2018- 25 hr .243 .350 .458 .808 124 This year even better .313 .439 .1021 176 If we’re gonna ask for salary relief, they going to want bigger prospect package. They won’t want Thames and his salary. Smoak > Aguilar & diplan. Look at his stats for his career. He had one outlier season in 2017 and that’s it. Aguilar was much more productive than Smoak last season and we are trying to dump him for a guy who has one good season to his name? AND giving up a prospect to get him? While also adding roughly $8 million in payroll? This trade would make no sense in any way. So 2018 (and so far in 19) are not that good?
  19. I’d like to see them get Gattis and play him at AAA with the hopes of him becoming a backup 1B/LF/3rd C (at least enough of a C that Grandal can be used as a PH when he doesn’t start) or at least a solid RHB come September
  20. Maybe Toronto is just the team that can afford to take back Aguilar and give him more slack to try and turn it around since they’re not going anywhere this year anyway. They’d downgrade talent but get more team control in the trade.
  21. Cain was a 6 WAR player. He also just signed an 80 million dollar contract. He was also just a top 10 MVP finisher. But we're suggesting moving him to a reserve role? Why? To play Thames more? The 2017 version of Thames posted an .877 OPS... Cain in 2018 had an .813 OPS. In the first half of 2018, Thames had a .901 OPS. If he is healthy, he's got a very potent bat, one that is underrated because he's arguably been misplaced in the leadoff or #2 spot of the batting order. Wow I assumed the Cain to bench thing was a joke. Just wow
  22. Who's available that fits that description and can play 2B or 3B and is willing to sign a one year contract for $10M or less? Before anyone says Dietrich, his lifetime OBP is a marginally better .335 and his defense is horrible. Moose is at least a plus defender. It’s definitely no sure thing that moose will be a solid defender at 2B. Shaw wouldn’t be either. So similar hitting and Dietrich at least playable at 2B means that noise isn’t 8 million better
  23. So Moose as a 2B at 10 million is better than Dietrich at 2B for 2 million?
  24. Based on playing time last year, they must think Kratz is better than Pina anyway
