  1. It's a year and a half of an elite catcher + a comp pick if you can't sign Lucroy to an extension (Which I think you could). To get Lucroy you would have to give up one of those "untouchables" in addition to Sheffield to get the talks going. Then you would still need to add another piece to the equation. I'd love to see a package of Bradley, Sheffield and McKenzie coming back to Milwaukee. That's obviously too much for Lucroy alone so I'd be willing to add a reliever to that package. The Indians could have their pick between Jeremy Jeffress or Will Smith if the Brewers could get another low level nugget in return. That is assuming you need any relief help. Gotta give a little to get a little. Maybe with the recent NBA championship the Indians will feel some pressure this year to put themselves over the hump and think outside the box by making a big splash in the market. I think the Indians' system is deep enough to make something work even with taking those prospects off the table, however, taking 6 of the team's top 8 prospects off the table off the bat for a catcher with over a year of control left at an extremely affordable contract, performing at an incredible level doesn't really make sense to me. I'd be interested in at least one of those "untouchables," and maybe adding a Sheffield or McKenzie as a secondary piece with a lotto ticket or two. Cleveland could be interested in one of our relievers too, sweetening the return. GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE.

  3. Breaking them down: 3 at first, 5 at 3rd (!!) and 2 at home. By comparison, Lucroy, Braun and Carter have made a total of 8 outs on the bases. This doesn't take into account how many times his base running added something the other three do not. If for instance he added more runs due to his base running than the other three combined that kind of changes the picture doesn't it? But, but, but.... those stats don't agree with their posts and opinions!
  4. I'm sure his agent and him are furious. Sending him down for the benefit of the team.
  5. My head just exploded. I just saw someone post on another Brewer fan site that Guerra's trade value would have to fetch something like Hader (a top 50 prospect), Isan Diaz (extreme upside player at premier position), and Michael Reed (potential MLB ready 4th outfielder at least). Carry on with your day.
  6. I completely agree with the Middlebrooks and Cecchini curiosity and wanting them to get to Milwaukee but I'm wondering why you would be against Rivera coming up. I get if you mean you just wanna see someone new in the bigs and I'm all for that but I am almost just as curious what Yadiel could do with a significant number of at bats and defensive opportunities. A Villar, Arcia, Rivera infield will make the defensive minded fans drool.
  7. Yes I think two all stars, one a former MVP and one quite possibly the best all around catcher in baseball and both of whom would immediately be the best position players on their team, have more value than a 25 year old pitcher with barely over 100 innings in the majors. If the Mets offered me Matz for those two I'd respond "Matz and......?" You're obviously entitled to your opinion but i think you are simultaneously overvaluing Matz and undervaluing Braun and Lucroy No one cares Braun was an MVP half a decade ago. It's about what he is doing now. There is enough baggage on him his value isn't really that high. No one is giving us a blue chip prospect for him. Lucroy is very good...but a 1 year and 2 month rental. You have to look past the fact they are both All Star players right now because it isn't that simple. Yawn. Sounds like we're giving them away for two bags of baseballs because nobody likes Braun, Lucroy can only be controlled for 1.5 years (with no chance of signing him to an extension), they're only playing at All-Star levels, again. I mean really if we package those two guys together for Matz, we're only getting a 5.5 year rental....
  8. I think this is the politically correct society working in full force in this thread. I don't think anything was meant in a negative connotation by Briggs and I saw/see nothing wrong with it. Fact of the matter is in any professional league that sometimes when fame and fortune are pressed upon young adults they don't respond well, especially if they've grown up living in the polar opposite of this their entire life. Getting so much money at a young age can be very detrimental to someone, I believe that's all Briggs was saying. Initially when we signed Gilbert Lara as a 16 year old there were reports that many didn't know how his work ethic would be hampered due to his signing bonus. You could make that same argument for countless other athletes from any sociodemographic background. Doesn't pay to fish for race in this instance.
  9. I'm not saying that Milwaukee thinks that way, or Houston either. No one knew or expected Gomez's free fall. What I do suspect is that when Houston is calling David Stearns or vis versa, the Astros are going to be extra cautious on players included in those packages. Getting burned three times (including the Villar/Sneed deal in this even though the jury is still out on Cy, but looks our way currently) by the same team in Milwaukee would be a huge black eye to the Houston front office. Package that with the Ken Giles deal this offseason and things could start to go south rather quickly in Texas.
  10. Getting no secondary production in the outfield with Tony Kemp or Marisnick, maybe an appropriate throw in piece would be Nieuwenhuis other than maybe a bullpen piece. If a big trade with Houston goes down it'll be like a true Miller Park south with how many former Brewers will be playing for them. To address the Stearns/Houston hesitation on Houston's part, I've always wondered this, as well. It seems the consensus is the Astros got fleeced in the last two Houston/Milwaukee trades, so I'd guess even though it's Stearns and the matchup looks golden on paper, the Astros' front office will be doing plenty of cross checking to do everything in their power that this trade works out for Houston as well.
  11. Switching gears a little bit, and assuming the Astros play themselves back into being a legit contender and want Luc around the deadline, I've fell in love with the idea of getting a guy like Joe Musgrove as a second-tier piece. Low to mid 90's with his fastball with a 99:8 K to BB ratio last year and an overall 70 control. I've always had a thing for the Davies, Kyle Hendricks, Musgrove types that can work their stuff but have exceptional control limiting free passes and wasted pitches.
  12. Another outfield prospect???? We already have many OF Hall of Famers in our system! Kidding aside I personally am in love with the thought of any trade landing Victor Robles in our system. Kid flat out produces and is starting to connect the dots between all of his tools. High upside pitcher in return would look pretty too. The next calendar 13 months will be very very exciting to see how the entire organization is transformed.
  13. I'm in the clan which says the contract isn't a problem as well, however, if he continues to miss a time I would think it'd be unlikely a team would go out of their way to not only take on a fair majority of the contract but give up the necessary prospects that the team would want back. Another point is the idea that "we" would have no problem eating a bunch of money (18 million) or so or potentially more. It's easy for us to say that on a forum or Brewer fans but when it's your money and you're in the business to make it instead of win championships (which tends to get lost in the grand scheme of baseball being a business) I wouldn't take it for granted that the Milwaukee would just sign off on paying any amount to increase a prospect package.
  14. Do you think you were so eager to enjoy the game because you got to miss 3-4 hours of it? I think you're nitpicking what he was saying quite a bit, especially if he's been there for the entirety of a 5 hour contest while one of the complaints about the game today is the game is getting too long.
  15. Those three and Tina Turner, perhaps?
  16. Let's also remember that sports franchises continuously sell for hundreds upon hundreds of millions each sale, regardless of Chris Carter plays for them or not.
  17. Rob Manfred: Making the MLB great again!
  18. Don't get the hate for the Lind deal but I suppose that's another thread.
  19. Let's all keep in mind we're like 10 games into the season. Tons of players start slow and get better as the season goes on. This year is all about evaluating the pieces we have in our system and acquiring young talent to fill it with. Giving up on Broxton 16 at bats into a total rebuild year to throw AA Taylor to the wolves makes no sense.
  20. I've heard the A's too over the last few months. Whatever the probability of him going to Oakland pre-Khris Davis, I'd have to assume that it's lower now knowing a Davis deal has already been done with these two teams. That's just my thought on it.
  21. I've never thought of taking in the MLB until that article was published a few weeks ago essentially calling out franchises for being bad. What all of those franchises have in common is they don't have the revenue streams to purchase a new 40 man roster at year end if they want to. They didn't have a legitimate shot at winning and until recently they didn't have a clear path to success. Veteran players clogging the roster and payroll as executives hoped that one more playoff run was in the cards. It wasn't. Something had to be done. If teams like KC, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Cincinnati were the LA's, New York's, and Boston's, GM's would have no problem purchasing free agents and international players during the offseason with unlimited pools of money, restocking their systems, rosters, and hopes of fans. The problem is they're not, and it's easy for fans of these teams to say there's a problem with the lesser fortunate cities when their team has the assets to do what they please. My real point comes here, where NBA and NFL teams can immediately upgrade their roster through the draft at the year's end. "Tanking" I've always thought of as trying to be the worst to help improve your club through the draft. These NFL and NBA teams come the next year can immediately see the fruits of their labor from the year's past in seeing their newly drafted rookies on the field. In baseball, maybe 3-5 years down the road a team would start to see their homegrown players on the big league field, and that's assuming they've developed according to plan. Of course, you need to draft well in any league in order to maximize. If the idea of "tanking" is selling off veterans for prospects in order to strengthen the overall farm and have a wave of players make the bigs together to maximize potential, so be it. If "tanking" to some is purposely losing in hopes of picking a player in the draft that maybe they make the bigs in 3-5 years, then LOL. It's like thinking of this as instead of the Dodgers having a perennial competitor, the small market teams must strategically plan for pockets of their most competitive windows and plan accordingly.
  22. At the time I was excited out of my mind. I'm happy for Kansas City's success, and while it eventually worked out in KC's favor, if it was 2010 again I'd have no problem with Melvin making that trade again. That's my standpoint too. It would sting a little more if we made this deal with the Yankees or Red Sox and they were the perennial power, but to see KC do it and have sustained success in a small market is somewhat satisfying to me at least.
  23. That's true, and I was about to post the same thing. You never know but you almost have to wonder with a change of scenery could he have further benefitted from going to the Indians organization in that trade? Good luck to him!
