I don't disagree but you can take projection, especially from hitters, from their college stats. Plus, Moore's physical profile doesn't scream upside hitter nor does his production. I hope I'm wrong because I don't openly root against these kids, I just have my doubts.
Does he, though? He's 5'9" 165 and I made a post showing that his sophomore season is likely the outlier as far as power distribution goes. Every other year, he's been in the 30 AB/HR range.
AJ Izzi is another HS arm that's highly intriguing. Though, our track record is far better with college/JUCO arms than it is HS. If we're looking college, Duke's Marcus Johnson could be a target but I'm not sure I like him at 102.
I think I would've taken either Ivan Melendez or Connor Prielipp at 27. I don't mind the Brown pick that much but Melendez is a draft crush of mine due to the bat and Prielipp's talent level is closer to top 10 than where he was drafted.
Also, I wish there was more data on Moore's sophomore season where he hit 16 HRs. Want to see whether they were wall scrapers or not. Reason I state this is because, outside of that season, he's posted an AB/HR in the 30s. It seems to be the outlier and not what he is as a bat.
At Arkansas
2020 - 2 HR in 67 AB (31.5)
2021 - 16 HR in 233 AB (14.56)
2022 - 8 HR in 241 AB (30.13)
Northwoods League
2020 - 3 HR in 119 AB (39.67)
Team USA
2021 - 0 HR in 37 AB
Not really a fan of the current draft philosophy of taking floor over ceiling bats. I feel like it's an overcorrection from the previous regimes philosophy and our inability to develop those types with 40/45 hit/55 power tools. Feels like we're drafting a ton of gap power guys with hopes that the ballpark will play more than their tools, if they get to AFF. Think we need a balance and should look into taking the ceiling bat when the opportunity arises.
Turang is likely a utility infielder due to the lack of loud contact in his bat and his FB rate being so low. Mitchell's bat path is going to keep him from hitting a ton of HRs despite the loud contact. Frelick is a gap-to-gap power type, even with swing lift. Black's a gap-to-gap guy as well. Feel like Moore and Brown are similar types.
We definitely have a type now. We'll see how it plays out.
Gustave should be DFA'd tomorrow. I don't get what we see in him and what Luke Barker has to do to get a shot. The only reason he's still in AAA is because he's an outspoken advocate for minor leaguers.
People put too much stock in the number next to the name. It's more tier based. Binelas and Warren are in the same tier. Call me tomorrow and that order could change. Tier 1 Garrett Mitchell Tier 2 Ethan Small Tyler Black Sal Frelick Brice Turang Tier 3 Hedbert Perez Aaron Ashby Tier 4 Mario Feliciano Jeferson Quero Antoine Kelly Tier 5 Alex Binelas Freddy Zamora Zavier Warren Tier 6 Eduardo Garcia Tristen Lutz Jackson Chourio David Hamilton Joe Gray Jr Tier 7 Hayden Cantrelle Jesus Parra Luis Medina Carlos Rodriguez
How I'd slot our top 15 prospects after day 2... 1. Garrett Mitchell | OF 2. Ethan Small | LHP 3. Tyler Black | 2B/3B 4. Sal Frelick | IF/OF 5. Brice Turang | 2B/SS 6. Hedbert Perez | OF 7. Aaron Ashby | LHP 8. Mario Feliciano | C 9. Jeferson Quero | C 10. Antoine Kelly | LHP 11. Alex Binelas | 3B/1B 12. Freddy Zamora | SS 13. Zavier Warren | C/3B 14. Eduardo Garcia | SS 15. Tristen Lutz | OF
Another college bat with more BB than K last year. Started insanely hot and then just hit a wall and his average plummeted to .315 (was mid-.400s after the first month of the year).
Adames has a .293/.364/.500 triple slash away from the Trop and it cost us a position we tend to replace well. I'm not worried about losing two wildcard arms for a SS with control that's flashed a real hit tool at the MLB level (unlike Urias had done prior).
I dunno. If we're the team willing to give him the requested $10 Million while other teams won't and he's the strong side of the platoon, I could see it happening. Damn, that would be one expensive platoon... $20 mil, that's unheard of for us! Or Cain's opting out again...tho that doesn't seem likely based on current reports.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/baseballprospectnation.wordpress.com/2012/05/29/scouting-report-christian-yelich-of/amp/ Oh, what does that have to do with Urias? Yelich has no bearing on Luis. That was a 40 current grade with 60 FV value. These are all reports on Urias... All reports on Urias. All say the same thing. Last thing I'll put out on the topic. Hope we sign Turner.
It's not a stretch whatsoever. His career ISO makes Arcia look like a power hitter. I'm not saying Urias is a bad prospect or anything of the sort, he's just not, nor will he ever be, a power hitter. There's nothing wrong with that and I've stated several times he just needs to cut down on the K's and get back to bring the OBP type he was prior to the PCL.
Robin Yount and Christian Yelich have no relevance to Luis Urias. Urias, from the get go, has had below average power grades. Prospects comparisons aren't linear. His value comes from his hit tool and his fielding, not his power. This isn't something that I'm pulling out of thin air, this is something that's been with Urias from the day he signed. This sound about right: “Power: Has excellent gap power now due to consistent hard contact and present strength. Line-drive approach right now and potential for above-average to plus home run power with added strength and loft. Additional focus on finding pitches he can drive has led to more in-game power now. Power will come as he fills out but he will never be an elite power hitter. Grade (raw power) – 40/60” Link?

Urias is 24 and has shown no power outside of the PCL. I'm taking the data he's given us and applying it to his projection. There's nothing that indicates he's going to be the guy he was in the PCL. Nothing. But you can keep your "wait and see" approach, I'll take the concrete data. And, yes, you can talk power on 16-20 year olds anyways, otherwise why have FV grades? Some kids don't have power frames or swings and it's evident no matter how old they are. There's a reason Urias's power grades are below average and always have been.
