  1. Actually I believe reading the posts that many fans are over-valuing the Brewer minor league prospects. Personally I think it was a good trade for both sides & I hope it works out well for BOTH clubs but the risk is definitely on the Marlins..
  2. I think HH19 wrote it best a few days ago that this deal will sting. Good description. As an outside person (neither club is "my team") I think the Marlins got back good value. Perhaps they could have held out for more (an upgrade over Yamamoto) but if that meant other pieces go with Yelich then they did fine. As it is they have now dealt the entire starting OF from 2017... As for the Brewers they got an established player with a lot of control remaining & all they gave up was potential. Granted if 1 or more guys go onto HOF careers, its a lot to give up. That said, no one knows exactly how each prospect will work out. Good move by both clubs..
  3. (originally posted in wrong thread)... fixed now. I spotted the newest Street & Smith's Baseball Mag in the store yesterday. You could tell it went to press a while ago as in its 'Incoming' spot for the Brewers it highlighted Dylan Baker. It had a ranking of the farm systems (Brewers at 11, a smidge too low IMHO & Cleveland at 15, a handful of spots too high IMHO). It also had a top 20 for each organization. I will not copy over the write ups for each player but here it the Brewer list: 1. Lewis Brinson, OF 2. Corbin Burns, RHP 3. Brandon Woodruff, RHP 4. Corey Ray, OF <----- Had to do a triple take on that listing. 5. Keston Hiura, 2B 6. Tristen Lutz, OF 7. Freddy Peralta, RHP 8. Mauricio Dubon, SS 9. Luis Ortiz, RHP 10. Brett Phillips, OF 11. Monte Harrison, OF 12. Isan Diaz, 2B 13. Trent Grisham, OF 14. Lucas ERceg, 3B 15. Marcos Diplan, RHP 16. Trey Supak, RHP 17. Cody Ponce, RHP 18. Jake Gatewood, 1B 19. K.J. Harrison, C/1B 20. Caden Lemons, RHP
  4. if you really wanted Salazar & Mejia, Cleveland could add Nick Goody to that. Unfortunately the Brewers would not be happy with their side of the trade.... D Santana & Knebel. You have to recall that the Tribe lost Shaw (& Smith) already. Andrew Miller & Cody Allen are most likely gone as free agents after 2018.
  5. I will speak to your ideas for trades with Cleveland. Forget Aguilar heading back to the Tribe. They have under contract for multiple years EE & Yonder Alanso. They also have a top 1B prospect in Bradley that will be in AAA this season. No space or need to bring back Aguilar. You idea to acquire Mejia is flawed. Mejia is on par with Brinson. You would not give up Brinson for a grab bag of prospects where 1 was a pitcher & 2 more were CF. Hence Cleveland would not deal Mejia for a grab bag with 1 pitcher and 2 catchers. Cleveland already has a surplus at C & has 4 of them on the 40 man right now. Both guys in the majors have multiple years of contract control remaining. If there was concern about the catching area, Mejia would not be available in trade, he would be put to use in Cleveland.
  6. Off the top of my head I was able to get one that was close. Going into 2011, BA ranked the Tribe system as 7th after having it 3rd the prior year (sound familiar?). In a system that had Corey Kluber ranked #26, Hector Rondon ranked #15 and Tony Wolters ranked #8 (long before his conversion to catcher) & Lonnie Chisenhall at#1 a deal involving other pieces was made. That summer (believe it was June) the Tribe dealt #2 Alex White, #4 Drew Pomeranz, #9 Joe Gardner (all pitchers) and depth position player Matt McBride to Coloardo. In return they got 1 player...... Ubaldo Jimenez who was under contract/ control for the rest of 2011, 2012 & 2013 Now HH19 hinted that IF the Marlins make the deal with the Brewers, it would sting. I don't recall seeing it said to be 4 of the top 10. Maybe that means 2 top 10 and 2 top of the next group of 10 after that. Maybe its a different mix all together. There is a lot of control & value for Yelich. Maybe the trade involves more than Yelich. We shall see.... IF the trade gets made.
  7. As many people on the site keep making trade proposals including some Tribe prospects (especially Mejia & McKenzie), I think this info is relevant. Where the players are starting 2018 is all educated guess on my part. Keith Law has 4 Indians in his recently released top 100 rankings. 7. Mejia (C, likely starts season in AAA Columbus where he has never played yet) 19. McKenzie (RHP, should start season in AA Akron) 80. Jones (3B, should start season in Midwest League - Lake County) 91. Bradley (1B, should start season in AAA Columbus) Law says that Mejia is probably a 2 win player with his bat alone. McKenzie appears to get a lot of swing and miss with average velocity because hitters simply can't see the ball coming out his hand. His CH is below average and will be a key going forward, particularly against LHH. He's probably a #4 SP right now, but still has huge projection. Baseball America had only 2 Tribe prospects in its top 100 - Mejia at #20 & McKenzie at #33.
  8. Now why would the Tribe want a guy like Vogt?? They look for D first from the Catching position and have 2 very good ones in Gomes & Perez. Both are under multiple year contracts. If they wanted more offense, they could keep Mejia as he is hitting 1st, average D at this point.
  9. The idea of Cleveland moving Kipnis has been kicked around Cleveland chat rooms all off season. Assuming Kipnis goes, JRam is the easy move to 2b. As someone else pointed out it leaves a question around 3b. For the long winning streak the Tribe had last season, JRam was at 2B & Yandy Diaz was at 3rd. Later in each game Yandy would come out & Giovanny Urshela would come in and give very good D. During the 1st 20 games of the streak, Gio was the only player to play in every one of those games. In general Urshela is a D/ glove guy first. Been that way for years. Sadly he got caught up in the moment & made a few mental & fielding blunders in the ALDS that helped to sink the post-season run. Diaz is a bat first, D is coming around. There was a report on MLB Network (think it was MLB Now) a few week ago listing Yandy as a player likely to breakout/ take a major step forward and have increased power numbers. His hard hit ball rate is near the top of the charts. Together they (Yandy & Gio) make for an interesting & generally effective platoon At this point the Tribe has Urshela (out of options), Erik Gonzalez (out of options), Rob Refsnyder (out of options), Yandy Diaz (has 2 options remaining), & Eric Stamets (3 options) as possibilities for 3B or utility INF should JRam be at 2B & Kipnis be gone. On top of that they also have YC Chang & Willi Castro getting very close to the majors (both already on the 40 man). The Tribe DOES NOT NEED to acquire a Villar/ HPerez in a trade package.
  10. Francona (& most of the fans) realize that JRam is a BETTER second baseman than Kipnis & that is with JRam finishing in top 3 for old Glove at 3rd. JRam was at 2nd as he came thru the minors...
  11. Perhaps having the dome helps MKE vs the open air of Minnesota... Don't a majority of the Japanese parks have domes/ covers??
  12. I would be careful putting Pit as a team on the tank list. If you thought the Brewers were developing and progressing and the start of 2017 (& not tanking), then the Pirates are not tanking. Both moves were logical and they got players for the current MLB roster...
  13. I agree with what you wrote here but I'm thinking the team spurred to action is the Twins. Also, I have a nagging suspicion that if the Twins signed/ brought back Chris Gimenez as a catcher, Darvish goes to the Twins if money is at least close with other places. Yu & Chris have had a great working relationship in Texas previously & Yu supposedly likes the way Chris catches him... I know Yu had contacted Chris & picked his brain about the Twins, the area, etc earlier this off season (per a MLBTR report)..
  14. No Chance. McKenzie is not being dealt. Tribe would not give up 4 pieces (2 off the MLB roster & 2 top 100 prospects for D. Santana & 1 year of Machado (who has let it be known he will not sign an extension & wants to try the free agency waters) & a draft pick due to a rejected Qualifying Offer for Machado.. Better chance Kipnis, $$ (salary offset of Harrison/ Kipnis) & possibly Yandy Diaz or Ryan Merritt goes to the Pirates for Josh Harrison & a couple prospects (from High A or further away)... Pittsburgh might be interested in that if payroll neutral and they get another player with 5 or 6 years of control.
  15. Or Uke has stayed around longer (& plans on staying even longer) than some people believed he would when they got involved.
  16. I would be very very cautious regarding Michael Fullmer. I recall some injury issues with him last season and while listening to some of the national podcasts (can't recall if it was BA or BP/ Effectively Wild or another one) one of the hosts has on multiple occasions expressed a concern that the way Fullmer was used/ abused by Brad Ausmus last season could have longer term effects on Fullmer & could jeopardize the long term career of Fullmer. From a Brewer perspective IF a deal was reached a thorough review of the medical records would be needed as well as INSISTING on conducting a complete physical of Fullmer be done BEFORE the deal is finalized. I would do everything possible to ensure I was not "buying a lemon".
  17. Especially if the Mets are willing to include Brandon Nimmo in the trade package (hinted at on MLBTR)..
  18. From the MLBTR chat today... Keon Broxton 4:00 Where am I opening day? Steve Adams 4:01 Could see him as a fit in San Fran if they can't move any payroll
  19. Well, its official. Josh would prefer to be dealt.. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2754428-josh-harrison-trade-rumors-pirates-if-wants-move-after-andrew-mccutchen-deal
  20. Its also possible that players like Reed/ Bruce are grabbing contracts now that 5 or 6 weeks ago they would have passed on (thinking the open market would bring something of greater value)..
  21. Austin Jackson is also a FA and he is looking for more than a 1 yr deal (after doing that last season & playing well). I think that is the main reason the Tribe went out & signed Upton to a minor league deal w/ invite (like Jackson last season). If Cain is not signed by SF, there are other FA possibilities for them to look at IF they don't like the trade cost for Broxton/ Naquin/ et al...
  22. Are we? A cheap 20-20 guy with several years of control and solid CF defense. 28 years old. I think Broxton is a perfect fit for the Giants. From listening to the Buster Olney podcasts during and right after the season I heard there were over 100 (almost 125) players last season with 20+ homers hit. All those players means the value/ cost to acquire 'power' has dropped. Where 20 homers used to mean a player had very good power, it is now looked like a player that hit 10-12 a few seasons ago. Hence Broxton does not have as much value as people might think. Also, ANYONE that hit 30 or more homers last season after NEVER doing it previously (majors or minors) is being looked upon with some skepticism. Hence Domingo Santana/ Frankie Lindor/ et al will need to do it again for many baseball execs to not view the power as a fluke. I want to believe all can do it again. Time will tell. Until that happens though, value will be a little more difficult to guess..
  23. Not talking trade within division is entirely possible. While Houston might be removing itself from efforts to get Darvish/ others, it also means 1 more front line starter is off the market and any team that was a runner up on Cole (ie Yankees) will be re-doubling efforts on others still out there. On another note consider this: if Cole (with 2 years of team control) netted this package of 4 players, how much more would Chris Archer (and 4 years of control) cost.
  24. I thought the Twins signed F Rodney to be the closer... Regardless of who is the closer, the Twins needed bullpen help this offseason and they went out & got some. I also have a suspicion that the Twins will be the team signing Yu Darvish (because the Twins will also re-sign Chris Gimenez, Yu's preferred personal catcher).
