  1. I'm sure that they would start laughing. Heck, I am laughing just reading it. I love Sheets, and a HUGE Brewers fan, but I know I wouldn't even do this if I were the Yankees. I'm just curious, but what about Chamberlin and Hughes has impressed you that much that you wouldn't even consider trading ONE of them for a guy who can clearly be a Cy Young candidate if only he can remain healthy? Seriously, other than minor league numbers, what have they done? Chamberlin hasn't even pitched 25 innings and your acting as though he's the next Nolan Ryan or something. I don't think this in unrealistic at all considering the Yankees are always in win-now mode and Sheets can probably help them more than Chamberlin or Hughes could. If I were the Brewers, I would not consider trading Sheets unless both players were involved. I maybe overvaluing him, but at least he;s proven what kind of pitcher he can be. I'd sign him for another 3 year deal for about $9 million a year if he'd take it.
  2. I'm not ready to trade Sheets for a rookie who has thrown like 19 innings in relief and can't pitch consecutive days. Now if it's Sheets for Chamberlin AND Hughes, I might listen.
  3. The one thing I like about him is that he'll be out there every five days. He doesn't seem to be out 6 weeks with ear infections and sprained fingers (sorry Ben). With a lot of young starters in the mix too, it'd be nice to have another veteran. Vargas is worthless and Bush is the epitomy of inconsistent, which leaves Parra (injury prone), Sheets (injury prone) Gallardo, Villanueva and Capuano. I'm sorry, but Zach Jackson, in my opinion, is no longer a prospect.
  4. The only problem with trading pitching is that Pittsburgh already has a lot of young pitching. Plus. who are we going to trade? I would think we have to keep Gallardo and Villanueva. Jeffress is suspended, Rogers is hurt, Zach Jackson is losing value start by start...Parra maybe, but he seems to have the most upside of all the young pitchers we have, minus Gallardo. How about a deal of Bay for Gwynn, Jackson, Irrabarren and another semi-prospect pitcher? Do you think thats enough?
  5. I would absolutely love Jason Bay, but I don't think we have the ammo to get him. I think Pittsburgh would be looking for young hitters to replace him because they already have a ton of young pitching, and we just don't have really any developed hitters yet. Maybe after next season guys like Cain, Escobar and Gillespie could fetch us something, but not quite yet. In all honesty though, I wouldn't at all be opposed to trading Rickie Weeks and say Gillespie for Jason Bay, although we'd have to find a lead-off hitter then (I'd suggest moving Hall to second and using Gwynn at lead-off, but I don't want to be called every insult in the book for even suggesting Gwynn could be a decent MLB hitter again). I'd modify that lineup a bit though Gwynn (CF) Hardy (SS) Braun (3B) Fielder (1B) Bay (LF) Hart (RF) Hall (2B) Estrada ©
  6. ok one thing that irritates me.....we all agree the more innings he pitches the higher the chances are he gets hurt. I don't think there's any disagreement over that. What irritates me is that if the Brewers are so concerned about his innings, why does he need to pitch the 6th AND 7th innings when the Brewers are up 11-0? The bullpen is fresh with arms, and even the Crew cant blow an 11 run lead in 4 innings. Why waste 2 more innings on Gallardo?
  7. I guess I don't see why people argue against the inning limitation I think people are arguing against inning limitation because we are in September and tied for first place. This team hasn't made the playoffs in 25 years and hasn't even had a winning season in 15 years. I personally am not suggesting that the chances of him getting hurt aren't increased if he pitches more. I am saying that right now, I am willing to take that risk. I don't know, some of the statements I read seem that people are so sure that if he pitches over a certain number of innings, we may as well forget him next year because he is for sure going to blow out his shoulder, and thats simply not the case. We are tied for first place, I don't think we should base this season on what might happen next season or the season after that. Minus like 2 or 3 starts, he's probably been our second best starter behind Sheets, and I think taking him out of the rotation to lessen his chances of getting hurt is just plain stupid. If I get in my car and proceed to go 120 MPH, I could very well crash my car. I also might not. However, the chances that I will are way higher than if I were to simply go on the highway and set my cruise at 70 MPH. This is comparing apples to oranges. First of all, whether or not you get in a crash depends on a huge number of factors, not the least of which is how good of a driver you are. If you could actually control whether you get hurt based on how "good" of a pitcher you are, this argument would make more sense. You could make hundreds of comparisons like this to try to prove a point, but none of them have any relevance. Are the chances of him getting hurt higher if he pitches more...probably. Is there any way calculating the exact odds of this particular pitcher getting hurt because he pitches more innings...no way. This is all based on what past pitchers have experienced, which has nothing to do specifically with Gallardo.
  8. I remember a while ago reading about George Lucas making a tv show of Star Wars which was apparently supposed to take place between episodes 3 and 4. Does anyone know when they show is supposed to start running, or if it is even still being planned?
  9. in all honesty i'd rather have Cappy then Suppan in the rotation, but we arent going to trade Suppan or throw him in the pen. Realistically i think Sheets, Gallardo, Bush, Villanueva and Suppan, with Parra and Capuano out of the pen. I think Vargas is gone
  10. thats true....but chances are he'd get less of them, especially when behind in the count, because pitchers wouldnt want to take the chance of walking him with Fielder and Braun coming up. I'm certainly not suggesting all we have to do is move him to 3 and he'll pop out 10 more homeruns this season, I just think he would see better pitches to hit and would improve because of that.
  11. thanks for the offer, but i just found one at a store on the south side...mega media exchange....not a bad deal $10
  12. shoot them down then...like i said, the guy hit 35 home runs a year ago and has the likes of Geoff Jenkins and Kevin Mench "protecting" him this year. Are you telling me that if Fielder, Braun, and Hart are behind him, and he can lay off the high fastballs and low and away breaking balls his numbers wont dramatically improve?
  13. I need a of James Bond Goldeneye for N64. Does anyone know of any stores in the Milwaukee area that may still sell it. Or does anyone on here have a copy they'd be willing to sell?
  14. I'm going to suggest something nobody has suggested yet...Bill Hall hitting 3rd. The guy had 35 homeruns last season so we know the potential is there. He began the year hitting 4th, protecting Fielder and having nobody protect him, which made him get lousy pitches to hit. When he began to struggle he was moved down. I dont think he's ever had adequate protection. I think Corey Hart is an ideal #6 hitter because he can drive in runs big time. I'd go with these lineups: v. Righties v. Lefties Weeks Weeks Gross Hardy Hall Hall Fielder Fielder Braun Braun Hart Hart Estrada Mench Hardy Estrada I don't really like idea of moving Hardy around from 8 to 2 depending on the pitcher, but when there is a lefty, there really isn't a better option for batting 2.
  15. she makes a good point...how can they locate the US if they don't have maps?
  16. does anyone know the name of that song and/or the artist. its the popular baseball song...has the lyrics..."put me in coach, I'm ready to play...today..look at me...i can be...centerfield?
  17. i think melvin has done a pretty good job of turning the franchise around. some of the trades he's made have been steals and hes done a good job at finding cheap production players. I think the Suppan signing is going to end up being his worst move, although at the time it seemed like a pretty good haul (i just didnt like the 4 year aspect of it). I think this offseason will be key. Most of the pieces are in place for a winner. Melvin really needs to go find an everyday left fielder who can bat 3rd or 5th and he needs to improve the bullpen drastically. I am torn as to whether to sign Linebrink and Cordero because we could really, really use them, but we could also really use the 4 extra draft picks to re-energize our farm system. I also think Yost needs to be replaced by a veteran manager who has won before. If we aren't winning by next season with the likes of Fielder, Braun, Hardy, Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Hart, Hall and Weeks, then something needs to be done.
  18. again, I never said it wasn't risky, but considering we havent had a winner in 15 years or been to the playoffs in 25, at this point, I'm willing to risk it. We're a game and a half back right now. Maybe if we get swept in Chicago and are 4 1/2 back I'll change my opinion. But i am tired of waiting for next year. On a side not, what about rotating Parra and Gallardo in the rotation? One time when the spot comes up, Parra starts, the next time it comes up, Gallardo starts. When they are in the bullpen, they'll only pitch when needed in long relief and Capuano/Villanueva isnt available. It would seem to limit both their innings, but it would also give us a decent arm in the rotation.
  19. He knows that. He's just distorting our argument to make it easier to argue against. The fact that Doug Melvin and just about every other ML organization supports the theory of limiting the innings of young arms makes his position pretty hard to defend, however. Thank you for explaining to me what i was saying, its always nice when people are willing to tell me what i'm actually saying... When I make arguments, I like to exaggerate on examples to make things clearer sometimes, so thats what I'll do now. Obviously if a guy pitches 1000 innings he's more likely to throw out his arm out and/or get hurt than if he pitches one innings. Nowhere have I ever disagreed with that. My whole argument, which is not distorting anything, is saying this.....i think its worth taking the chance this season. yes he may get hurt, but he may not. We are in the middle of a pennant race and our rotation is blowing it. Why not put the best arms out there. Are 20 or 30 extra innings really going to mean Tommy John surgery next season as everyone here seems to think?....probably not. But for all of those saying i am completely ignoring what every MLB executive is doing, thats absurb. The mlb executives are playing the percentages, and thats fine. But at some point, you need to stop playing the percentages and just do whats best right now. Ten years ago kids in little league/high school would throw 120+ pitches on a regular basis, many of them would blow out their arms at a young age, plenty of them were just fine. Should we just have ignored it because some are fine or do you think its a good thing more and more leagues are limiting their pitches now? Comparing this to high school pitchers is unfair. First of all, there is a huge difference between a 21 year old and a 17 or 18 year old. 3 years of development is a lot. Also too, high school pitchers who pitch all those innings do it in far less of a time frame (the high school season is three months as compared to 6 months in mlb), and very rarely do high school kids get 4 days off in between starts.
  20. If they screw up Y's arm, I believe it will deflate the whole organization. I just think its funny that as soon as someone passes over a certain number of innings, all of a sudden half of this website thinks his arm is going to fall off. If he stops pitching right now, there's no guarantee he wont get hurt next year. And if he pitches 100 more innings this year, there's no guarantee he will get hurt. Lets just use him as needed, and deal with what happens. Isn't that what we've been doing with Ben Sheets for the past 3 seasons? Our rotation flat out sucks right now, and I am sick of the whole, "just wait until next year" argument, because next year Braun and Fielder might get hurt, and then we're waiting until 2009. That being said, if they do take him out of the rotation, i hope the five man rotation is Sheets, Villanueva, Bush, Suppan, and Parra. Vargas's jekell and hyde routine is getting kind of old.
  21. i realize this probably isn't the thread for this, but it still irritates the heck outta me that they are going to take Gallardo out of the rotation. He's easily the most consistent starter and we're in the middle of the playoff run. I dont think this is the time to play it by the book as to how many innings he should pitch.
  22. maybe he could close for us next season
  23. after reading that interview i'm officially embarrassed to be an American
  24. I have an extra white Kuehn. I wouldn't mind the Hall or Capuano, but in all honesty, I dont want to go through the hassle of sending these things in the mail, so if you can meet up someone near the East side of Milwaukee i will make a trade if you'd like.
  25. I dont know about any of you, but i getting pumped for the upcoming college football season. I like the chances of my favorite team (michigan). Is anyone else as excited as I am? Any predictions about the national championship or Big 10? I personally see Michigan winning the Big 10, but with one loss, probably to Wisconsin. Unfortunately I see USC winning the title. I hate everything about time, from the coach to the fact that they play in the weakest of the BCS conferences to the fact that their recruiting is far from legal yet nothing ever happens to them. Anyway, I see them beating either Michigan or West Virginia for the title. LSU is going to be good but its hard to go through the SEC without a loss (although if you complain enough with one loss like Florida did last year you will still get into the title game). Anyone else have any thoughts about the season? Good games to watch (LSU-Virginia Tech, USC-Nebraska, Oklahoma-Miami)?
