  1. I think the original trilogy established that people can use the force without little or no training. Yeah but using it is different than dominating someone who is as knowledgeable and skilled in the force as Kylo Ren apparently is. When Luke first fought Vader in ESB, even with a fair amount of Jedi training Vader was just toying with him. So if Rey can defeat Ren with no apparent training, or even the small amount she would have received as a Padawan under Luke, how could Ren be considered a viable threat to either Rey when she does have more advanced training or Luke himself? Kylo Ren himself would need to significantly improve his training and skills to defeat them. I just thought it made him look weak. And for what it's worth I think you guys are right about her being a sibling of Kylo. That seems like a very plausible scenario. Her memories of her parents leaving were actually Han and Leis leaving to protect her from Kylo. Perhaps Kylo thought he killed her with the rest of the students.
  2. I sure hope Stearns is motivated to trade Lind.
  3. Personally I'm hoping for Jason Groom at this point. I agree that focusing on college guys because they should hit the big leagues quicker is a mistake. I'd rather have the pitcher with the highest ceiling, preferably one who already has good command. I've had enough of the hard throwing pitchers who can't throw strikes.
  4. The way I look at it is like this. If he's moved to first he's got a clear path to the majors with nobody blocking him. If he stays in right a lot of things need to happen in order for him to ever see regular playing time. I guess it comes down to how the Brewers view him. If they view him as a future trade chip then keep him in the outfield. If they are just as high in him as they were when they drafted him then move him to first and give him two full minor league years to learn the position. I get that he might be more valuable as an OF. But he's also more valuable as an every day player at first than a fifth outfielder who plays once a week. I've always assumed that he was drafted for his offense. If that is the case you play him wherever he can get into the lineup. Right now that would seem to be first base On a side note this to me shows how AL teams with the DH have a huge advantage over NL teams. Just like how we were forced to trade Overbay so Prince could play and how Braun was moved to right to get Davis in the lineup and how Santana was playing out of position in CF last season this one more example of how having a player who only hits is a huge advantage in terms of roster construction. It boggles my mind how MLB can continue this DH in one league only [expletive deleted by moderator]. Seriously....I know it's a tough decision but pick.....DH or no DH.....and apply it evenly.
  5. Nice list. Lots of talent to be excited about. On a side note the whole "use a players name as your name and pretend you are that player asking about yourself" thing has been overdone. It's not slick anymore. I get so annoyed when people do that.
  6. I agree in most cases but in this case he'd really be learning two completely different positions simultaneously. It'd be one thing if he took some reps in the outfield when he was still a catcher. But he's only played outfield one year. I don't think having him learn first base while he's still learning how to play the outfield would be a good idea.
  7. I get the whole "he is still a long ways away so a lot could still happen" argument but I don't understand why we continue to ignore the fact that we have solid OF players at almost every level in the organization and not one solid first baseman anywhere. Even if they want to move Braun to first Coulter is 2-3 years away. I've always thought Coulter to first was the obvious move. I'm sorry if we waste his good arm but his arm is also wasted if he's stuck in the minors or on the bench. This organization has never been one to think three to fours years down the road, MAYBE up until now. Seeing the incredible amount of outfield talent in front of Coulter (Braun, Davis, Santana, Reed, Phillips), not to mention behind him (Clark, Demi, Harrison) and the incredible dearth of first baseman all throughout the system I think it would be wise to move him now and give him at least two seasons to begin to learn the position.
  8. If I never again hear the phrase "I'm not motivated to move him" I'll be a happy happy man. Good to hear that Lucroy is in play. Unlike guys like Gomez Lind and KRod I won't be upset if Lucroy is on the 2016 roster but I think they could get a lot of excellent young talent in return for Lucroy. Maybe add in someone like Davis or Peralta and you could beat the Gomez haul.
  9. I am really starting to like the Wyatt Family. I'm glad that they were reformed. Wrestling is always better with a couple of stables. Hopefully both Harper and Rowan are in it. It's been awhile since WWE has had a decent four man stable. All four of those dudes are beasts. Especially Strowman.
  10. I had no problem trading Estrada. He was no better than a fifth starter/long reliever for us. I was so upset that he was given the fifth starter spot last season after winning the phantom "competition" with Tyler Thornburg. I fault DM for a lot of things but trading Estrada isn't one of them.
  11. Why not go for a HR. Franco and a prospect for Davis and Peralta.
  12. I really hope we go pitching. There are just so few opportunities to get a pitcher with #1 or even #2 potential. I'd hate to see this opportunity be missed.
  13. Yeah but a new stadium in Miami certainly hasn't helped with their attendance. People will only go to see the stadium so many times. Eventually you need to find real fans. I have no idea if Montreals problem was the terrible stadium or not a big enough fan base but they need to be sure before they give them another team.
  14. I'd love for the MLB to go 8 four team divisions. Then up the playoffs to six teams and add the DH to the NL and that's my ideal scenario As far as expansion options go I wonder how viable Vegas would be. I believed they'd overtake Miwaukee as the smallest tv market in the game. They'd also be competing with A LOT of other entertainment options. I just wonder how big of a fan base they'd have. Montreal I don't like. I guess I just have issues giving a team to a city that didn't support the last one they had. And it's not like they lost the team 40 years ago. It was barely over a decade. Mexico City. My main question is this. The current exchange rate is something like 20 pesos to one dollar. Obviously fans would pay for tickets and concessions with pesos. Would MLB have to somehow supplement the teams income since they'd essentially need to make them viable? I guess I don't understand how that would work. My top three cities, in order, would be Portland, Charlotte, and then San Antonio. Ideally MLB could get more teams into the heart of the country to cities line OK City or even Salt Lake City/Provo but they don't seem to be in the running.
  15. It's not that we aren't happy. It's that one less win and we pick fourth. One less win means absolutely nothing. Literally nothing. And it would give one more option plus more money to sign draftees. But it is what it is. It could have been worse. I'm really hoping Groom falls but I have a feeling if he's healthy he's gone.
  16. Two games left one game behind Colorado and Oakland.
  17. I like Peralta but it might be time to move him. He is just so inconsistent. We still have Garza Jungmann and Nelson and can easily fill out the rotation with two of Davies, Pena, and/or a cheap one year FA with the likes of Lopez Wagner Hauser and Hader all in AAA. I love the idea of packaging him with Lind or Lucroy to increase the return. Grab a third base, catching or starting pitching prospect at AA or higher and that's an ideal scenario right there.
  18. It is what it is. It is nice to see guys like Davies and Pena pitching well but it is frustrating watching people like Segura finally decide to play well when all season he was pretty much garbage. As for Lind and Krod. I doubt their trade value is affected much either way by their performance over the last two weeks of the season. I'd argue it's more important for the future of the franchise to see if Jason Rogers can hit well enough to play every day next season and to see how Jetemey Jeffress or Will Smith perform when they try to close out a one run game. I think it's a bit ridiculous to suggest not playing Lind more than once or twice a week over the last two-three weeks or having someone other than KRod close out games will invite a grievance. The explanation would be so obvious it wouldn't even be worth arguing against.
  19. I didn't get achance to watch last night. What was his fastball sitting at?
  20. Nobody is suggesting we simply take the best available catcher. And while it's true that most catchers don't end up being all that great that doesn't mean you pass up on the chance to take one if you think he could be good. I'm sure TB is kicking themselves for passing on Buster Posey. And Joe Mauer was a darn good player for many years. If you can get away with a garbage offensive player who plays good defense fine. But you have to look no further than the Brewers to see what it's like to go years and years and years without a quality catcher. It is very difficult to find a good catcher. I almost think that's more reason to take a chance on one if he is comparable to your other options.
  21. Looks like we're going to pick between 4 at the highest and 6 at the lowest. Between us, Colorado and Oakland for those three spots. Cincy and Miami have kind of separated themselves from the pack.
  22. Lind is exactly the kind of player a rebuilding team needs to move away from. Jason Rogers appears more than capable of playing first base every day next season. Trade the older expensive veteran for the cheaper younger player. That's how organizations like Milwaukee survive.
  23. brewcrewdude I was just using catcher as an example. My point is that if you have two comparable options, even if one may be ranked just a tad bit higher, I see no problem taking the one who plays the position you have a desperate need for. I do have to say this though. After watching the Brewers with Lucroy these past few years vs the Brewers with all the crap they threw behind the plate before him (Miller, Moeller, Kendall, Casanova, Rivera, Perez, Estrada, etc) I may be overvaluing catcher but it sure is nice to have a competent player behind the plate and I do not look forward to the post Lucroy era.
  24. So you take the catcher because defensively it's more valuable. Does that only come into account if the players are exactly equal? If one is slightly slightly better but plays a position that isn't as valuable and is an organizational surplus you'd still pick him? We'll have to agree to disagree because I think that'd be a mistake. I think you'd be setting yourself up for problems down the road. You suggested trading from your surplus. What if you can't get what you need or can't get a good enough return? This year is the perfect example. Yes we could solve an issue by trading Davis but whose to say we can get a third baseman or first baseman in return? You can't just assume we can always trade from a surplus and get a need. At some point I think you have to look at what position a player plays. We're seeing right now what happens when you ignore a certain position for too long.
