  1. If he is healthy, it may be worth returning Thornburg to a starting role. If he works out there, he's much more valuable. That's also a more appealing option than Jungmann.
  2. While I personally would start the firesale now, I don't think it's even worth discussing since Mark A. will never do that. So basically, my fingers are crossed for either a great start to 2015 or a terrible one. Great start, fine, keep everyone and become buyers at the deadline. Terrible start, great. Then they can tear it down properly in July. Nightmare scenario is being a few games under, behind 4-5 teams for the wildcard at the deadline. That's an obvious sell mode, but likely not bad enough for Attanasio to sign off on it.
  3. Definitely agree. Why trade a lot for Zimmerman now when you could sign him next year? And please don't forfeit pick 15 for Shields when there are 5-6 better options than him available next year on the FA market. I wish this was a start of a mini firesale, with all the guys with all the short-term contract guys being shipped out. Gallardo, Lohse, Broxton, Garza, Lind, and if you really wanted to go big, Gomez could bring back a ton to restock the system (and you could do it was near-MLB ready guys, like Segura was). Then you have cleared plenty of cash to sign one or two of those pitchers next year, and you have a young, cost-controlled core for many years. Either keep Yo and go for it one last time with this group (but don't blow it on Zimmerman or Shields), or blow it all up. Don't go in between.
  4. The Brewers were never the NL favorites. The Dodgers have been all year. I think it was Bovada that had the Brewers as the fifth most likely team to win the NL, and this was a couple weeks ago.
  5. Definitely bad news for the Brewers if the Cardinals get him, but just about as bad if Pittsburgh does.
  6. Put yourself in Boston's shoes. If you were trading a blue chip like Jon Lester, would you want a declining Yovani Gallardo (who only has one more year of control himself) back for Lester, or would you want a highly rated prospect? Gallardo is not what teams will be looking for.
  7. You could probably pretty easily acquire Zobrist in this deal also. Then finally waive Overbay and play Zobrist at 1B and corner OF.
  8. Nelson isn't a future ace, and Thornburg isn't either--both are likely in the number three range. Coulter may be very good but not for quite a while yet. This is a great deal for the Brewers and I'd be shocked if no team topped it.
  9. How much value do you think Fiers has at this point? If the offer is Fiers for Dunn, the White Sox are the ones saying no, not the Brewers.
  10. I like Ovee or Obee.
  11. Hunter Morris' value is just about nil.
  12. All I can say is this UW season has been incredible so far. I hate watching Trae Jackson. For every nice scoring drive he has a boneheaded turnover. The more minutes Koenig takes from him the rest of the way, the better.
  13. I'd much rather prefer this to dumb FA signings. Rebuild would have been better, though--and more exciting, if you're into that sort of thing.
  14. Surprising stuff here. Weeks is arguably the Brewers' best 2B, and Sheets is their best SP.
  15. The Brewers are left with mediocre to bad options. There was no foresight in regard to Corey Hart, no plan B whatsoever. Under Attanasio, they have proven time and time again that they have no ability to think long-term. That this is even is problem underlies a much bigger issue. Hart and Ramirez should have been traded a couple years ago. Lohse should never have been signed. Gomez should be traded right now. The main question this off-season shouldn't be "Who should the Brewers sign for first base?" It should be "How can the Brewers re-stock their horrid farm system?" I'm not sure Attanasio will ever care to ask that question.
  16. My off-season would have started with shopping Gomez and going from there. It's very simple. Is Gomez going to help the Brewers make the playoffs? The answer is no, because this team isn't making the playoffs. Therefore, he's of no use to the Brewers. It would be better to turn him into a couple players who can come up with Segura to form the next core. It goes back to what Paul was saying. This organization continuously holds on to players one or two years too long. For once, I'd love to see a player traded when he still has excellent value. Of course, this shortsighted organization would never even entertain it.
  17. Any that they manage to acquire in the next three years. Sure, there aren't good answers in-house, but that doesn't mean they should be handing out three-year deals.
  18. It's entirely possible that a Halton/Francisco platoon outproduces Loney at an eighth of the cost.
  19. This makes too much sense for this short-term only organization. Prepare yourself for Thornburg for Davis or giving Loney too much money. This should be another tally in the "rebuild" column, but of course, it won't end that way.
  20. No.
  21. No, it isn't. It's pretty bad, actually.
  22. No one is dealing a Jameson Taillon, or Noah Syndergaard-type for Carlos Gomez. Gold glove or not. Those types have been traded for players worse than Gomez with a lot less team control than the Brewers have with Gomez. Fairly recently, too.
  23. Exactly. They'll get something better than Aoki for Porcello in all likelihood.
  24. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/232691171.html That's fantastic.
