  1. First Braun extension was great. Second one wasn't. Ramirez wasn't either. Don't see why it's one or another.
  2. Just wait a few months, and you can watch him get it.
  3. Of course I'd like an overhaul to the rules, like allowing all picks to be traded, comp picks for rental players (like a team trading for Greinke now) and a worldwide draft... But since that isn't happening, this actually seems pretty cool. I had forgotten about this. I'll be interested to see how many of these picks are traded over the next few weeks. If none are, MLB might look pretty bad, because it wouldn't have had much of an impact.
  4. In regard to the first post, I fail to see how the team has a realistic playoff shot without Greinke next year. They won't be able to add another pitcher of his ability next season; they don't have the prospects to keep doing those trades. The rotation is not intimidating. Gallardo, Fiers, Thornburg... Peralta? Narveson? Estrada? Rogers? Even if they re-sign Marcum or a solid starter like that, that's an average rotation.
  5. Crazy things happen on the free agent market. Players worse than Greinke have received $125 million contracts. Howard got it, and he wasn't even a free agent. Zito and Vernon Wells got more.
  6. Right, but it's unlikely that he stays healthy for the duration of his contract and/or keeps up his current level of production. He's paid fairly this year, but who here wants to pay him 16M in 2014? By that time he'll need to move to first, and then we'll have our very own version of the current Carlos Lee. Trade him now, while he still has solid value at this time, and a team may actually bite. That would be a proactive move, but that isn't Melvin's MO. He rarely trades a player when his value is at its highest.
  7. With his contract, he won't be worth much more than a bag of balls. The Dodgers were willing to give those prospects for Lee because Houston was kicking money for most of his contract. If the Brewers don't send any money, they likely wouldn't get much at all in terms of prospects for Ramirez. That's okay with me though.
  8. Considering Thorburg's success the last few years, it would make no sense not to give him a good long look as a starter in the majors. At least all of 2013.
  9. Haha. That's actually perfect.
  10. Getting rid of that Ramirez contract would excite me almost as much as getting a good package back for Greinke. They'd have plenty of flexibility going forward if they could pull that off.
  11. Well I wouldn't trade him if his value is low. I think it's possible that if he keeps up his very recent hot hitting over the next couple weeks, his value can be restored. If not, then obviously you keep him.
  12. Please...
  13. Until you decide to punt 2013, which won't happen until you are sure you can't bring in a top flight pitcher, you don't trade them. If they trade Greinke, they're punting 2013. They won't get a top flight pitcher if it's not Greinke. They can't afford to keep trading prospects, and they probably don't have enough in their system to get one anyway.
  14. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/a-hypothetical-angels-trade-for-zack-greinke/ Fangraphs author speculates on an Angels trade. I think I'd be pretty happy with his proposal of Segura, Cron and one of those 3B.
  15. I wish more people would do what you did and go back and look up 2004. That might be the best season that nobody knows about.
  16. Plus, everyone is pointing to Sale. Well, Sale is already at 30 innings above his entire season last year. The White Sox are really playing with fire there.
  17. Any time a pitcher under 25 has his innings increased by more than 30 from the year before, he is at risk. Thornburg has 136 innings this year. He's at 85 now, so he's on pace for about 160. If he hits 160, he's in great shape for just about a full season next year--hopefully in Milwaukee. Move him to the bullpen, and he doesn't even reach the 136 he had last year in all likelihood. Suddenly, they're looking at either cutting off his season early next year or--more likely--increasing the injury risk of their top prospect.
  18. Screwing with their top prospect to save a team whose chances are next to nil anyway. Yeah, sounds like a Brewers move. The funny thing is he'd help their chances more by replacing Wolf, but we all know Wolfy's job is safe as long as he's here.
  19. Wow. Some pretty extreme stuff there. Fiers better than Gallardo? And even more, Profar better than Harper/as good as Trout? I think you may be getting a little too swayed by recent history.
  20. I'd be fine with that too, but Weeks probably needs to tear it up between now and the end of the month before he gets most of his value back. Seems like he could be on his way, though. Weeks, Hart, Axford are the type of out-of-the-box trade candidates that I don't see Melvin shopping/Attanasio allowing Melvin to shop. They have the most value, and therefore would bring back the best return.
  21. Yikes. Justin Upton is one of the best players in baseball and he's 24. Parra/Veras/Loe? Those guys have zero trade value. Loe maybe a little. They certainly aren't going to get you any closer to Justin Upton. Green has almost no trade value at this point either. Gallardo, Axford, Hart, Ramirez might get it done, but the Brewers would have to chip in money because AZ is taking on a ton of salary there. Really, this is all a pipe dream. The DBacks aren't going to trade Upton to Milwaukee for what the Brewers could offer.
  22. Yeah, teams aren't going to trade major players from their current roster when they're in a playoff race. Segura would be an exciting return; not sure if he'll be available
  23. But then, of course, he'd give up his guaranteed money. I'm not sure he'd get a contract as lucrative this coming off-season.
  24. He's likely earning what he's getting paid now, however, his salary goes up in the coming years as his performance should be expected to decline. They won't be able to trade him then; if they're selling, they should do it now if they have a taker.
  25. Man would I love to get out from under the Ramirez contract. Don't see Doug (okay, Mark A.) going for it in a million years, though. http://www.chadmoriyama.com/2012/07/dodgers-trade-targets-taking-a-look-at-aramis-hart-dempster-cuddyer-hamels/
