  1. I'm going to have to take back my comments from a month or so ago that the Badgers' defense is good because of their slow offensive pace. First of all, their pace has picked up during this winning streak, which is great, but most importantly, this defense is fantastic. That second half against Penn St. was incredible. Evans and Berggren are having great seasons and are both beasts on defense. This might be the best D they've played under Bo. Ryan Evans is a perfect example of what four years under Bo Ryan can do. He was brutal to watch at times his first two seasons, but he's actually developed into a nice offensive player too (if he sticks to his game). A couple things I'd like to see, other people have mentioned as well. A) Gasser getting more aggressive offensively. I feel like he was more aggressive his freshman year than this year. And B) Kaminsky getting more playing time. This might actually be happening the last couple games, though. I really think he's going to be a good player by the time he's done here.
  2. If the Royals learned anything from Ned's time with the Brewers, this should be his last year. After that, the team will probably be too good.
  3. I had to laugh at Greinke being honest once again. "Last year there were 5-7 offenses in the National League that were better than ours. Our pitching staff is what kind of carried us. It was the bigger part of our year."
  4. If they're willing to do this, they should look into Edwin Jackson instead.
  5. Gun to my head, I'd guess Greinke will have the better season. The wacky gap between his peripherals and standard numbers can't possibly last another season. Plus, the bad defense hurt him quite a bit, and it will be better this season. I'm sure they'll just start Gallardo though, based on team seniority more than anything else. It doesn't really matter who starts that game.
  6. The only thing is the second one should not even be a possibility, because there's no reason/excuse for having a .600 OPS guy in your lineup. That's below replacement level. Goes back to using McGehee when Green and Hairston were on the team--it was inexcusable.
  7. I never said it was an option for this year. The question was last year's offense to this year's. I'd take last year's offense, because they had options to use Green at third and Hairston at short (they just didn't use them, for whatever reason).
  8. I'd take the one with Fielder, only because I would rather have Fielder/Green over Gamel/Ramirez.
  9. And there go all the theories that Boras overplayed his hand, etc. Nice contract for Prince, for sure. Good for him.
  10. Yep, and they want to expand the field. What a bad idea.
  11. But "Fausto" is so much cooler...
  12. I have friends who have been in baseball 5+ years, are doing a great job and still taking minimum wage internships. It really bugs me when a player waltzes into a job like this with no FO experience.
  13. For what reason, exactly? The team doesn't have good shooters, and they don't have athletes. The biggest reason they hold opponents to low point totals is more a produce of their long offensive possessions than their defensive ability. Where are the resume wins going to come from?
  14. Yeah, or the fact that the Brewers are selling tickets for next year at a record pace.
  15. Am I missing something? What's this talk about Adam LaRoche at first for the Nationals? Mike Morse had a .910 OPS last year. Are they moving him to the outfield to make room for Adam Freaking LaRoche?
  16. Absolutely pathetic. I don't know where this three-point fest the last few years came from, but I have no interest in watching it. And may we finally discuss the giant elephant in the room? Jordan Taylor has been terrible almost all season.
  17. I don't think Gomez is going to break out or anything, but I still think he's quite valuable as he is right now. Rather than just a straight platoon, since that gives Morgan quite a bit more time than Gomez, I'd play Gomez against an occasional righty--so the pt is close to 50/50. Gomez's defense is that valuable that I'm fine with crappy offense on occasion. I'd be fine trading or keeping Morgan. If his value is high enough for a good return, great, and go with Schafer in that role. Otherwise just stick with what worked well last season.
  18. They aren't any kinder to our latest signing either. http://www.fangraphs.com/...le-continued-employment/ That article criticizes using Izturis as a starter. There's nothing wrong with a minor league contract or even using him as a bench guy.
  19. I've always wondered what a Ham Fighter was, until I saw it spelled that way with the hyphen. Doh.
  20. So it turns out this isn't official yet. I thought it seemed fishy. Maybe they didn't get him after all.
  21. Nothing on this anywhere else as far as I can tell... The source seems to be some Japanese journalist. I wonder how reliable this is?
  22. Why can't they just use Gindl and Schaefer as the fourth and fifth outfielders for 50 games? Morgan in left, Gomez in center would be a fantastic defensive outfield, and Gindl could get some playing time in there. You won't match the offense, obviously, but they'll save a lot of runs. It's not the most ideal, but if they're truly out of money, they could make it work. I'd like to see more of Gomez in center, anyway, so this would be a way to do that. The reality is that if Braun is out, their chances are almost shot anyway. They will probably need to win low scoring games during that time to have a chance.
  23. Punto would have been perfect for Counsell's role, but better than Counsell was last year by far. He's left-handed, which is good with Gonzalez being lefty, and obviously he has the defense. $3 mil over two years is cheap, too. They should have gone two years on Hairston, but after he was gone, I wanted Punto.
  24. Ugh, so now on top of it all Ramirez will be getting deferred money?
