I think this might be the worst. A few guys have thrown no-nos with more walks, but two strikeouts is incredible. 6 BBs to 2 Ks is just bad. I think this is a lot more of the White Sox having a terrible offense (at least right now).
My favorite Brewers have been Ben Sheets and Rickie Weeks, which for a good amount of time was about as "lightning rod" of a choice I could have made. Weeks is a great player, and his contract was a steal.
My point is that they aren't comparable. I'm not sure what you're arguing. I'm looking at the duration that Gross was a Brewer. Gross was a good player when he was a Brewer and was the rest of the season that they traded him to Tampa. He had a .356 OBP against righties that year. Hart had a .291 OBP vs. righties that year. So yeah, he would have been useful.
My reasoning for doing so is to point out that Gross was a good option for the team at the time, and that Kotsay is not a good option now because he's been terrible the last few seasons.
At this point in his career, Kotsay isn't a shell of the offensive player Gross was at that time. Edit: Kotsay since 2009: .253/.318/.372Gross as a Brewer: .256/.357/.458
I don't understand the backlash to the Betancourt criticism, or the claim that he's serviceable. His OBP is .284, which is pretty much in line with his career.
I honestly think this is fine either way. If it's just sprained, fine, and McGehee will be back in a couple days. If it's worse, let's see what Gamel's got for an extended period.
