  1. This is so disgusting listening to Brian and Bill spin this like Estrada did such a good job. It certainly wasn't horrible, but they're talking like it was a good performance.
  2. I'd rather have him get us through 5 1/3 and give up 1.
  3. I don't take solace in the fact that Melvin will "probably make a deal" at midseason for a shortstop. Does he really need another half-season to realize that Betancourt sucks? It's clear to everyone by now. There was no excuse for not cutting him right after the trade and upgrading the position immediately.
  4. Makes sense. Thanks.
  5. Gregerson, Mujica, Betancourt, Belisle, Benoit
  6. How do you explain someone like Craig Counsell having a good walk rate then? Or Daric Barton, or Nick Johnson, or Scott Hatteberg, or any other hitter with a good eye/low power combo? Having good plate discipline is definitely a skill, and it's one of the most important skills a player can have.
  7. Really? You have Braun, Fielder, Hart, Weeks, Greinke, Marcum, Gallardo. Granted those are more "stars" than the Brewers usually have, but there isn't much proven on the team after those players. The bottom three spots in there order could definitely be considered scrubs, as could most of their bench.
  8. "Even though they are taking a risk by employing Gomez, Betancourt and Lucroy full-time; it doesn’t appear the Brewers are going to allow those players to hold them back in 2011." Right.... But the point is that Fangraphs is publishing an article about it, so people can't just say it's not an issue. "Hold them back" is pretty ambiguous. Hold them back from the playoffs? From a winning season? Either way, they're still raising the question.
  9. I've been looking at BP's manual, and PECOTA seems to have every starter under 200 innings, including guys who have thrown full seasons a few years in a row. Greinke for 179 innings, Gallardo for 150, Marcum for 134... And it's like that for every team, not just the Brewers. I see they have Mark Buehrle for 209, but he's thrown 200+ for 10 straight years, and skimming through, he's about the only one I've found. What is the reason for this? I'm guessing it's because they just assume it's unlikely for someone to throw 200+ innings because so few people do it anymore?
  10. He's definitely better than Howard, but the rest of that list looks pretty good. He'll get plenty, but I don't expect it to approach Teixeira's deal.
  11. It's not just people on brewerfan who think they don't have enough in important spots. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/will-stars-and-scrubs-approach-derail-brewers/
  12. 4-6 I agree, Gomez isn't anywhere close to the worst CF in baseball, even if he can't hit.I meant as a collective group 3-5. The only thing you know with Mitre is that he won't be.... Mike Burns? It's only 2-3 starts. It's not like he's going to be the fifth starter all year long. That wasn't worth giving up a competent major league reserve outfielder for. Even if Melvin says he sees Mitre as a reliever, they have plenty of better RP options than him.
  13. This trade is fine, but I'm not sure why it needed to be preceded with a Dickerson trade? The outfield would look much better with Braun, Hart, Gomez, Dickerson, and Morgan. Mitre is still just a guy and there's no reason the Brewers needed him over Marco Estrada or anyone else.
  14. Just listened Sam. Nice job! I didn't even realize you were with rotowire.
  15. His MLB track record is replacement level the last few years, or very slightly above. Those guys are everywhere. Marco Estrada may be one of them.
  16. If Mitre pitches well this year, it will be the first time in his career. His great last season everyone refers to: 4.69 FIP, 1.88 k/bb, and exactly 0.0 wins above replacement. He's a replacement level pitcher, and those who have been saying dozens of guys like him will be available after roster cuts are exactly right. Trading anything of use for him is a bad trade. The Brewers must have the worst 3rd-5th outfielders in baseball.
  17. I'd say his fastball command is usually excellent, and his good secondary pitches (mainly the curveball) keep hitters from sitting on it. He's good at painting the corners.
