  1. "Bump bump bump bump bump.....bump bump.....bump bump.............we're gonna have a problem here" I think everyone's fear is that the real Zack Greinke has been standing up. Prove those doubters wrong Zack! A nice efficient 7 inning, 2 run performance would do just fine.
  2. Gamel made a good play getting to the ball, but he deserved the error, not Axford. First basemen are taught to hit the pitcher before they get to the base, so the pitcher does not have to focus on catching the ball and hitting the base at the same moment. Pitchers are not taught to run to the base and stop and stretch, they are taught to make the catch, touch the base, and get the heck out of there. The throw was on the bag, too far out ahead of Axford. Not that any of it matters in this particular game anyway.
  3. I believe I read somewhere that Geren was best man in Beane's wedding (or maybe it was the other way around). Either way, crazy to be in a position to fire/get fired by one of your best friends.
  4. I was thinking of that possibility as well early on during today's game. While possible, it was interesting that it took a while for Kranitz to finally visit the mound, and if Yo was tipping pitches you'd think he or someone else in the home dugout would have noticed and had a chat with him sooner.
  5. After hearing his quotes about the fans during his press conference, he better get one of the longest, loudest standing ovations in Miller Park history tomorrow night.
  6. IIRC, JosE-6 was Jose Offerman's nickname. Jose-K was the more prevalent (and appropriate) nickname for Hernandez.
  7. The title of the thread is BOLD predictions. Greinke, pitching in a game with a DH, insists on batting in order to sharpen his hitting skills for the season.
  8. Had to bring this back, just to comment that last night had to be the worst episode of the whole series. No funny lines, no semi-interesting drama or story lines. The final scene, especially the dialouge and the look on Vince's face at the very end, was awful. It is still early in the season, but if that is indicative of how the rest of the season is going to go, not a good ending to a series I enjoyed.
  9. You make some good points and obviously follow the Bucks and the NBA closer than I do. However, saying the Knicks "almost" made a trade, even if you could prove it, does nothing to illustrate someone's value. What does it even mean, that the Bucks made the offer, and because the Knicks didn't reject it immediately, they "almost" made the trade? The fact that Sessions got his deal from a horrible team/GM that had just drafted two PGs says a whole lot more about his value at the time.
  10. Can't stand all these out on the base paths, although by all accounts they all either were safe or could have gone either way. I'm starting to prepare myself for the reality of dropping 2 of 3 from Houston at home. Obviously it isn't over but I haven't even considered that end result until right now.
  11. I flipped my Packers calendar to April to find Aaron Kampman as the player pictured for this month.
  12. What does the mood of the fans have to do with putting a winning baseball team on the field? Melvin and Macha have jobs to do, and that is to win as many games as possible for the Milwaukee Brewers. If they do a poor job, they get fired. I don't see how anyone could think that personal feelings and/or grudges could have anything to do with a decision they make about Suppan. Taking the mood of the fans into account when making roster decisions is exactly what I don't want the decision makers for my favorite team to be doing.
  13. The way this season has gone, I am now to the point where I am trying to block out any glaring holes, inconsistencies, etc and just enjoy the show knowing that it won't last forever. So, for last night I was able to ignore the highly unlikely success of Jack and Renee taking out an "elite" team of American commandos by themselves, and focus on the fact that it was a pretty cool scene, the Jack Bauer legend at its finest.
  14. We have gone the last three Decembers, once at a Disney resort and twice renting a condo. In terms of transportation, I much prefer going with a rental car verus the Magical Express. To me, the convenience of not having to wait for the buses was worth the cost for the car and parking. It can be a pretty long wait for the bus at the airport, you may have to go to a few hotels before you get to yours, it can be a pretty long wait for the bus to and from the parks, and occasionallly you may have to take a couple of buses to get somewhere (e.g. to get from Pop Century to the Boardwalk, you have to take a bus to Epcot, and then another bus to the Boardwalk). If you are patient and know going into it that is what you'll be doing it's okay, but again I would rather spend the money instead of spending that much time in line and in transit going places. However, I have a friend who just spent a week there and loved how he never had to drive anywhere. It all comes down to how you prefer to spend your money and time.
  15. I thought this week's episode was pretty good too, although I'm also an apologist. I do have to nitpick a little though. The whole "great job everyone" by Hastings, when all they did was get a visual on the suspects while the girl was still two minutes away, just screamed that something was about to happen. I know they have to set it up somehow, but geez, no one (especially the guy in charge) should be breathing a sigh of relief until they stop the threat. Just way too obvious.
  16. Actually this may end up being a good thing, depending on how you look at it. The selection committee has admitted that the Big Ten championship game ends too late on Sunday to have it be much of a factor in the seeding. By (hopefully) facing OSU in the semis, it gives UW a chance to knock them off and have it count. If they met in the finals where the outcome wouldn't really matter, a win over OSU wouldn't help them.
  17. Jim Caple has such an anti-Bud bias that you can not possibly trust anything he says on the subject. I like Bud for all the reasons already mentioned in this thread but I feel I am still able to be objective when evaluating his performance as owner and commissionor, and some of the things Caple has written about him are absolutely ridiculous.
  18. I was just talking about how Sickels seems to be good at identifying sleepers, and obviously I like the message, but jeez, John--I paid money for this. Read "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell, it will all make sense http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. If someone told me in 2005 that we would make the playoffs within the next three years, and that the team would not return to doormat status immediately afterward, I would have been jumping for joy.
  20. Seriously, how can a GM and the manager he just hired before the start of this season have such a disconnect in terms of what is best for this team? Macha certainly does not seem to be falling in line and backing his boss on these moves. Is he clueless, doesn't give a crap if he gets canned because things aren't going as he thought they would, or what? If he does get canned, how can he expect to get a third chance at managing in the big leagues after how his first two turned out? Very bizarre.
  21. My point was that today I can see players not wanting to play here because the team stinks, but back then that simply was not the case. Richard Jefferson being bummed to get traded to Milwaukee in 2008 because the team was a perennial lottery participant? Sure. Day being devastated about joining a team that had a down year after 12 years in the playoffs? Not likely. On draft night no way did he hear Milwaukee and have that reaction because he thought "wow, they are always in the playoffs but haven't won a title, and now are on their way to being a league bottom feeder for the next decade."
  22. Granted a lot has changed since the early 90's, but in the case of Todd Day, he was the first Bucks lottery pick ever and they had gone to the playoffs 12 years in a row prior to that lottery season. While they didn't win any titles, they were certainly good enough that I feel reasonably certain Day's attitude had nothing to do with the team.
  23. I just read the SI article. His parents are trying to find a way for him to enter the draft early so he doesn't have to spend another two years being intentionally walked. Thus, I don't think he'll be able to use college as leverage.
  24. If you feel that way now wait until your senior year is winding down. You'll walk around campus thinking "I was here for four years? Really?"
  25. I remember the peanut guy. Vendor: "Peanuuuuuuuuts", crowd responds, Vendor: "Peeeeeeeeeeeeeanuts", crowd responds. You could even hear that exchange over the radio a few times. I have a friend that saw Freeway in the sausage haus bathroom after a game last year. Freeway was not all that excited to be recognized, nor was he happy about being called Freeway.
