  1. The Brewers and Dodgers are a match made in heaven. Dodgers need a left handed second baseman to platoon, right fielder, starting pitcher and a third baseman as well as salary relief. We need a prospect at first, pitching, and a boat load of prospects. Blockbuster trade. We send Braun, Scooter, Guerra and Villar. We receive Yasiel Puig, Cody Bellinger, Jose DeLeon, Brandon McCarthy, Alex Verdugo, Wisconsin's own Gavin Lux, Will Smith, Jacob Rhame, and Mitchell White.
  2. And no team is going to give a Giolito or Glasnow for him. Or anything close to that.
  3. I pretty much agree with this. There's risk in holding on to Thornburg and him getting hurt/not being productive but I'd take that risk. What's the risk? A non playoff team is still a non playoff team. The few extra wins Thornburg might buy you is not going to change the outcome of the proposed goal of 2019 and beyond. So your goal is either A) win now with Thornburg, B) keep Thornburg and hope he plays at the same level and doesn't get hurt and flip him at trade deadline, or C) trade him for the package we currently got. I take C) just because of the Brewers current situation of the rebuild mode. Thornburg gets injured or implodes (which is likely due to his history) you get nothing. And who says you will get an even better package than what was offered today come July?
  4. I feel Villar and Thornburg are quite similiar, in that so far they have both been 1 year wonders. Don't get me wrong, as I view both as above average ball players. Look at the high demand of relievers. If we got we received in the Thornburg trade for a position in that high of a demand, then we would have to expect about the same return or even less for a Villar trade. If you would be happy that for Villar, then so be it. But personally I would want more than what we received for Thornburg.
  5. "As David Stearns takes his pen and taps the brim of the cap of the Ryan Braun bobble head that resides on his desk".
  6. Love the trade. I think Pennington is being underrated. Hard thrower who had a pretty good WHIP last year. Both of these kids seem to be intelligent and hard workers with no baggage. If Dubon could develop a little more power it would be nice to see him slide over to third base. Nothing wrong with have an athletic third baseman who can steal some bags. I can see Dubron as a .300 hitter with 15 HR, 20 SB a year kind of guy. The trade is about as fair as it can get. Every other GM knew that Thornburg was available so you have to know that this was the best offer on the table. Look at it from Boston's end end, 1 year wonder with an injury history? Tip of the hat to Mr. Stearns today.
  7. Never nervous Yangervis would make an ideal candidate for our third baseman and move him over to first against lefties, but I'm not sure who you would give up. His away stats were greater than his home stats which is typical of Petco. If we could get a low .800 OPS guy at cheap I'm all for it. Maybe a purge of mediocre outfielders in Demi Orimolye or Monte Harrison as we currently have a full house in the OF department. However, that's about all I would give up for him. The focus has to be on 2019+. I would wait and see what kind of reclamation projects are available come January. But, if he comes cheap, prospect wise. I would be for it.
  8. The point should be that 1 Trout doesn't = a playoff team as we can see in the Angels the last few years. So why would you give a high number of touted prospects and all star vets for 1 guy? From what everyone's saying as far as what you need to trade for Trout. And looking at each side of the fulcrum equally. I take the package of players vs 1 Trout. Give me a Braun, Brinson, Hader, Guerra, Thornburg, Bickford any day over a Trout. As the old saying goes, no I in team.
  9. Although, if he did bump out the Dbacks that would be good thing as there is no match between the Crew and Arizona. My speculation is he bumped out San Diego. Who he changed to is a wild guess. Seattle?
  10. Well, I forgot about the no trade clause. Moderators can delete this post/thread.
  11. I really doubt this. If the Dodgers needing DeLeon for September was the only thing that kept him from being a Brewer, I'm sure the Brewers would have gladly sent Garza and a few million dollars to the Dodgers to fill the spot and complete the deal. I don't think there is any way a deal of this magnitude falls apart solely on the basis of the Dodgers needing 4 September starts out of a guy who had never pitched at the MLB level before. Agreed.
  12. This maybe a far fetched idea but it does have some merit. Brewers receive: Trout- Will still be in his prime when Brewers contend. 17' Salary $20,000,000 Angels receive: Braun- Angels are on his trade list. 17 Salary $20,000,000 Guerra- Much needed Starter for L.A. 17 Salary $507,000 Thornburg- Much needed relief pitcher for L.A. 17 Salary $2,200,200 Gennett- L.A. has a current hole at 2nd base. 17 Salary $3,000,000 Broxton- Takes over immediately in CF for Trout. 17 Salary $507,000 Nelson- Will be 30 the time Brewers compete. 17 Salary $507,000 This trade may seem fantasy like but I could see this working for both teams. If you really want to push the envelope. You could balance the salaries by adding Garza for Pujols if the Angels see the Pujols contract as a lead lifejacket. However, I would want Matt Thaiss for taking on Pujol's contract. Yes? No? or am I out of mind with this offer? At least with the initial offer.
  13. I think the barley would be too small as stitches on the baseball. It would be very hard to see and look more like a ragball. The Ball/Glove logo is the logo of the Milwaukee Brewers. I just googled "Milwaukee Brewer Fans" And I just took the first picture that came up. As you can see, old school beats new school. http://media.jrn.com/images/25921653-mjs_brewerrally_nws_kwg_3_brewerrally.jpg Matter of fact, look at the rest of the pics that pop up on google. Old School by a far margin. Give the fans what they want. Players too. Add the Brick Red and the Barley underneath the logo and were set.
  14. So getting the Dodgers 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 17th rated prospects and a pitcher in McCarthy is laughable? The Dodgers have one of the top rated farm systems in MLB. You can only trade Braun to a handful of teams. The Lucroy trade brought way less in the initial trade with Cleveland, and thank goodness Texas stepped in. Look at the top 100 (not saying that's the grand poobah of guides) DeLEon and Verdugo are squeezed in between Brinson and Ortiz. And to cap it off I don't think Cordell matches up to the potential of a Yadier Alvarez or a Chase DeJong. That's about what I would expect for a Braun trade. People always think their players are worth so much more. Your also dealing with the Dodgers F.O. which is one of the tops in baseball. You are not going to fleece them. Arizona....maybe. But not the Dodgers.
  15. Excellent points. The Dodgers would benefit themselves by performing a trade for Braun sooner than later. I personally don't think the trade is hinging on Bellinger. Stearns doesn't seem to place much emphasis on the first base position. Stearns also makes a living by mining what the opposing team devalues. Hence, the claim for Puig (at the time when he was struggling). Since the July deadline, Puig and Bellinger have improved their stock. I would look for Stearns to mine a little more risk now. I can still see McCarthy as the offset salary guy. And then I could see a trade for DeLeon "Risk- shoulder inflammation 2016", and Verdugo, Yadier Alvarez, and De Jong. The last 3 just because of their youth, all at 20 Y.O., which has an inherent risk as well. These 5 players straight up for Braun. Scooter if the pot needs to be sweetened.
  16. No but he is still a cancer to his own team just like Sheffield was. Article from last year. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/los-angeles-dodgers-yasiel-puig-worst-person-report-adrian-gonzalez-aj-ellis-clayton-kershaw-zack-greinke-121015
  17. Maybe not in a direct sense but even in a indirect sense to see what McCutcheon pulls in, to set the bar. The Brewers also have some nice side items to compliment in Junior, Scooter, and Thornburg. The Dodgers have to be interested. I don't care what anyone says, the Dodgers don't want Puig. Their actions are smoke screens to drive Puig's value. Nobody can tell you how bad the cancer is except for the person that has it. And that's how I see the Dodgers and Puig. And I maybe one of the few who doesn't care for a Puig acquisition. Were looking at Milwaukee's version of Sheffield. Not San Diego's, Florida's, Detroit's, Met's, Yankee's version. Sheffield 2.0 all over again. And for you younger fans.....it wasn't good.
  18. Take the damn barley and place it under the ball and glove already and be done with it. Colors?!?! Use the color combo minus the green that you see in their Miller Park logo below. Use the tan/off white in the baseballs for their home uni's similar to the Giant's home uni's. http://milwaukeelogisticscouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/miller-park-logo.jpg It will be a unique color combination of the brick red, brewer blue, barley gold, & frosty mug white. It will differentiate from the Padre's look alike uniforms. And these new colors will give the Brewers their own identity and a remnant feel of the past beer makers. Here's a few pics of past beer logo's and they all have that similiar color combo. Carry those colors over! Red, Gold, Blue and White just screams Milwaukee!!! See below. http://www.taverntrove.com/beerpics/Kingsbury-Beer-Labels-G-Heileman-Brewing-Co_38963-1.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/M0vwAqS4jF8sDVzHpZQC7GrcigxmW3zXvjzCmQyHlQXwnCo-SkTpt6LxTGHZSWQQePoEpO-HI8rZ7cXOmSyPrksyJeGv=s750 http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/logopedia/images/e/e2/Miller-Lite.png/revision/latest?cb=20150712103244 http://www.citizengroup.com/uploads/portfolio/590x340/pbr_schlitz_packaging_v01a.jpg http://d2ydh70d4b5xgv.cloudfront.net/images/3/0/long-sleeve-shirt-point-beer-embroidered-logo-button-down-royal-blue-men-s-xs-6029519f26a17c9514f908aeda878f6e.jpg
  19. The Dodgers brass is playing cat & mouse with the Brewers right now. And McCutcheon is the toy.
  20. After reading the past 10 or so posts, this seems to be the overall connotation associated with JR. And with that the GM's are feeling the same. Unless some team becomes desperate, I don't see JR going anywhere. Now, if JR. is still pitching with those same peripherals come July. You will see teams pony up for sure. But the doubts that everyone is posting here I am sure they run true through every front office. If I'm a GM and I'm giving up a top 50 prospect for JR, why do it now when you can see if he's the real deal come July. It will cost you that same prospect either way and at least you can see if your A. a contending team. B) Is JR the real deal. You are still going to get all off those arby years. The only way it would pay is if you knew another team wanted him badly, and I don't see teams fighting for him. Based on what the last posters have written.
  21. There is no doubt that Stearns, through his acquisitions, favors OF's who can run and play defense. I really see this as opening for Domingo. Let him learn the ropes at 1st in a rebuilding year. If not Domingo, then maybe Braun, maybe Perez. First base is not a worry for a rebuilding team. Tradeability....Stearn's would of taken a single A box of peanuts for him, hell anything. GM's know the Brewers had no reason to keep him. Stearns was prolly exploring options back in June already. 8 million saved = 8 million towards a productive player when it counts. Yu Darvish next winter?!?! Signing Carter is what Dougie would have done. Stearn's has us on the right path. Personally, every move Stearns has done has made sense even if it doesn't at the time.
  22. Slingin David Stearns reminds me of some of my Yahoo fantasy baseball peers who have unlimited transactions in regards to the waiver wire.
  23. I could see a blockbuster trade with the Dodgers. It's not out of the realm to see Braun, Guerra, Gennett and Thornburg heading West for Puig, McCarthy, Bellinger, DeLeon, Verdugo, Yadier Alvarez, Sheffield, Will Smith/Austin Barnes. This may seem to be more of a fantasy baseball offer, but the stars do line up for it. Maybe not everyone listed but a good portion. Would really set the Crew up for 2019 and beyond.
