  1. No Gray's value is already set one game is not going to move his value one way or the other. Then why do teams even send scouts to these deadline games if that was the case???
  2. Today's matchup of Gray against the Rays should make things a little more clear. However, the Rays are a swing and miss team and could make Gray look like a stud today. If Gray implodes against the Rays, it might bring down the cost significantly.
  3. If you want a controllable starter, then it makes no sense to trade anyone who may contribute in the next 2.5 years. So why would anyone consider the selling of Brinson, Hader, Woodruff, Phillips or even Ortiz. It's like trying to make a sandwich by selling your bread to buy peanut butter and jelly.
  4. Beane's trading tendencies all relate to one thing. And that's saving money. You find a creative way to save Beane money. And you can have Gray. Hence the reason it will be hard to send an MLB player over as their clock has started and their just that closer to their big payday. My guess is a package of Ray, Isan Diaz and Erceg would easily get it done. Considering Gray's injury history and height.
  5. What we do know is Stearns offered less than what the Cubs offered for Quintana. And we can assume that is good thing.
  6. Gray will be a BUST!!!! Just look at Gray's Home and Away splits if you don't believe me.
  7. Stearns understands value. Specifically by the trades he has made on the other end as sellers. There is no doubt in my mind that Stearns will not be on the opposite end of the Will Smith or Thornburg type trades. Hence, the reason to have Hader up already and the acquisition of Jeanmar Gomez. He also understands the value of toolsy middle INF and OF and acquires it because it is cost controllable, and less likely to fall the way to injury such as drafting pitchers high. My guess is the Brewer's will only trade for a high end starter such as a DeGrom and would only give up as much as their hitters. I do not see Stearns giving up any pitching. Remember, their are more sellers than buyers. And that only increases as you approach the Deadline.
  8. If we are giving up our top prospects than give us DeGrom or keep what we have. Were going to get burned with the likes of Gray, Verlander or any of these mid to mediocre level guys.
  9. While this maybe a fun activity, I don't want to see the Brewers really trade for anyone. I see 4 things that could go terribly wrong. 1) We may not make the playoffs. 2) We may trade for a Marcum, Wolf, and hold it......... Jeff Suppan. 3) We will see our prospects that were traded become the next All Stars. 4) We could go right back to mediocrity in 3 years because our farm was depleted again. I really see option 2) as the worst case reality that holds the most potential of coming true. What I want to see is if Suter and Woodruff can pitch for us this year. I would also like to see Hader eased into a starting position by the end of August with a spot start here and there vs lesser teams to see what he is capable of for at least 5 innings. And if the Crew does trade for a pitcher, I want to see it as a last hour proposal with the hopes that the other team is desperate and the Brewers get the best possible deal. The Good News is that Stearns has made great deals and understands real value as a seller. And as a buyer I believe he will be just as stringent. It wouldn't surprise me that the Brewers actually become sellers, or at least looks to become a seller of one of our major pieces. An example would be Broxton for a set of minor league pitchers who maybe brought up ASAP to contribute now. Whether it be bullpen or as a starter. That to me would be the most brilliant of all moves, but would take some extensive and savvy scouting. There seems to be plenty of pitchers in Triple A farm systems that are at that 24-28 age range who could fit that bill. If Woodruff was on another team's farm system right now, this is exactly the type of player the Crew could go after with that aforementioned strategy.
  10. Brewers receive: Marcus Stroman and Joe Smith from Toronto. Toronto receives: Corey Ray, Isan Diaz, Brett Phillips, Lucas Erceg, Freddy Peralta and PTNBL.
  11. I would also throw Marcus Stroman in the mix as well. And personally, my favorite of the trade candidates assuming Toronto makes him available.
  12. He shouldn't be a buy low. Everything except for ERA is great. The Giants don't seem to be on the cutting edge of anything so maybe he'll come cheap though. And the Giants need to restock that farm system. Besides Christian Arroyo they have next to nothing at middle infield depth. Possibly a combo of Isan Diaz, Lara, Trent Clark and eating a chunk of Samardzija salary. I also like the idea of a veteran pitcher over a real young guy if the playoffs are in the Brewer's forecast.
  13. ok, then why not acquire more pitching at the source (ie draft, free agency, etc) rather than drafting guys to trade for pitching? Because pitching is too volatile. The Brewers cannot spend high picks on pitching to go through all of it's stages of development to only get injured or just not be dominant. The Brewers will have to try to do exactly as they are, play extremely well with what they have and then make that trade for pitching with their surplus of OF and middle INF if they are in contention. You will also notice that when DS was selling pieces he would try to get underated arms thrown in but not the centerpiece of a trade. I feel the Brewers best way to get around this pitching dilema is to utilize the expanded rosters in September with a multitude of relief pitchers. And it may even come to the point where some of the 4 and 5 starters pitch only 4 innings and middle relief is used extensively. The Brewers have been very creative with matchups and unorthodox strategies this year, but it is really by design. DS ability to pick up all of these multi position players allows for this strategy and I see no reason this plan cannot be applied to the pitching staff.
  14. No pitching going back in any trade. No, No, No, No, No...................etc.
  15. Also, check Sonny's away numbers this year away from that park of an ERA of 4.85. Yeah, let's trade big prospects for that.
  16. Hasn't Hader been part of this winning process??? Isn't Woodruff expected to contribute to this possible playoff team??? Then why would anyone consider trading them now?!?! Are we not looking to trade for s SP with controllable years??? Why? So we can win in the next few years. Then it would make no sense to trade away Ortiz either as he is supposed to part of the winning process that would coincide with whomever we trade for at the deadline. Stearns has made it known that this team will have a sustainable farm system and remain competitive year in and year out. Trading the one thing your short on for short term pitching makes little sense. I don't see Hader or Ortiz going anywhere. I think Stearns knows what teams value in trades and has been extremely smart in the selection of his toolsy, multi position players and middle infield. He is fully aware that these players have higher value and has stocked up on them for such purposes. I truly feel that Corey Ray would be the headliner of any of these trades, and possibly Phillips but you will not see the Brinson, Hader or Ortiz in any offer. If I'm giving up my top 3-5 prospects it better be for a DeGrom or a Darvish and not a guy who has been injured, smallish and has pitched in a huge pitchers park. Or a pitcher who has had so-so numbers in Quintana. Stearns has been brilliant with his moves and I would truly trust any moves he makes going forward. I think the whole "Brewers have checked in on Quintana and Gray" has been just to stir the pot and bring in more teams to let them know where willing to buy.
  17. If I'm giving up Brinson plus others it better be a player with an ERA below 4.00. I'm just not sold on Quintana. I am not big on Lefty's unless they can bring 95+ Heat. Quintana sits around 91 mph and I think he is going to get rocked at Miller Park. When you pitch at MP your going to need power pitching with filth to be worth a big trade to give up your top prospects. I think Stearns is going to continue to roll with what he has. I would believe the brewers would like to see what Woodruff can do first at the major league level before making any deals. I'm all for a farm purge if we can send some mid level prospects like Coulter/Clark/Cordell. But I would say no at all costs to Brinson, Ray, Dubon, Ortiz for sure.
  18. The return would be pretty bad with either player right now and you should never sell low. Best case scenario is for the Brewers to keep both and ride it out. If the Brewers are out of contention come July 31st and the offer for Villar is respectable than consider. If I look at it from another team's point of view there is no way I'm giving a top prospect for Villar. And our farm can't hold anymore lottery tickets. However, Stearns needs to find a creative way to bring in a higher end starter to next year's rotation without breaking the bank or the farm. Doesn't have to be Kershaw esque but a Straily, Vargas or Peacock would be nice. If a Villar or a Villar plus Trent Clark gets that done. So be it.
  19. I keep seeing this in various threads. They are developing these guys to be starting pitchers, they are not going to be added to the Brewers pen. Ditto for Ortiz. Not to mention Williams is coming back from TJ, and likely will be shut down at some point this year. Once the minor league seasons are over, maybe one of those guys can be called up to the pen in September, but that's it. Hader is up and Crow has been served.
  20. Yes. Hader, Williams, and Woodruff in the pen. Trade Broxton for an additional reliever and Hernan Perez can cover center.
  21. Or Dan Strailly.
  22. This thread is like asking if the NFL is going to expand to North Korea.
