  1. Demanding major league ready talent was the type of stipulation that consistently got Melvin in trouble. The idea in any Hader trade is to get the best talent possible no matter the level that prospect is currently at. This farm system is pretty much devoid of any impact position player talent and that needs to change. I would much rather have a AA or even A ball player with big upside over major league ready guys who aren't all that good. If Cronenworth is the best player we can get in return for Hader we are far better off keeping our guy.
  2. It’s hard to believe that a team that scores less than Beavis and Butthead is focusing exclusively on defense.
  3. Over the last three season JBJ's 95 wRC+ isn't all that different from Avisail's 100 wRC+, but FanGraphs has JBJ at +7.6 on the bases & +14.1 in the field compared to -5.8 on the bases & -8.1 in the field for Avisail. Add it all up & JBJ has 5.7 WAR the last three seasons compared to only 2.6 for Avisail. In 2020 the Brewers ranked dead last on the bases (-17.6) by a considerable margin (next worst was -11.1). If we sign JBJ (+7.6, 27th) to go along with Wong (+9.7, 16th) and Cain (+7.0, 30th) returning that would essentially be adding three of the top thirty baserunners over the last three seasons to the 2021 team. Bradley is definitely a better player than Garcia but again he doesn’t improve the offense. It’s great that Stearns cares about defense but he is completely ignoring what was the teams biggest weakness and that is scoring. You would think watching this team struggle to score the last few years and especially last season would tell Stearns to acquire one or two big hitters and he has just not done that at all. Pitching and defense can only go so far when you are consistently struggling to get a hit much less runs across the plate.
  4. So basically, you'll aim unrealistically high, not complete a trade as a result, and need to sign a guy like Bradley anyway? How about suggesting a move that's actually feasible? I suggested signing Yoenis Cespedes if he looks good in his workout.
  5. I doubt that Chapman is a realistic option but I would aim high. Either way I think this team desperately needs one if not two legitimate bats.
  6. Like who? I would like to see Stearns make a blockbuster offer to the A's for Matt Chapman.
  7. Yoenis Cespedes is holding a workout for teams on March 2. I would rather take a cheap flier on him to replace Garcia in the lineup than pay 10 million per season for Bradley.
  8. I don't see any free agents worth signing at this point. The only way to improve the offense would be through a trade with Hader probably being the piece we use to get a legitimate bat.
  9. It really was the M.O. of that 2018 team as well. The defense was good and made the pitching (Cough.... Chacin and Miley..... cough) better than they otherwise would have been. The Brewers staff is already going to be good, the defense will make it better. I'd like it if they could add ONE thumper bat, but I think they could be very good regardless. I can't see this team winning even a weak NL Central with this offense. Its great that the pitching and defense look good but this offense looks about as putrid as it was last season.
  10. You really think Yelich, Hiura, Garcia and Narvaez are gonna be the terrible hitters they were in 2020? Our lineup has it in them to be very good this year. I expect Yelich and Hiura to be much better and don't expect much from either Garcia or Narvaez. You really have to be wearing some Brewers tinted glasses to see this offense being good.
  11. Thats all well and good but where is the offense coming from. Other than Yelich and Hiura all I see is huge question marks all over the diamond in regards to hitting.
  12. You continue to say this. Who? Who do you want them to target? I don't see any free agents left worth targeting but I sure don't see any reason to sign another defensive first player.
  13. How about targeting a player that can actually hit. It just makes no sense to me to keep looking at players that add nothing to the offense.
  14. So does 2020 count or not. If we throw out the bad seasons that many had why do we count the breakouts of guys like Burnes and Williams. To me you can't have it both ways; if we completely ignore the offense completely tanking we shouldn't look at the stats of guys that did well. For the record I believe in both Burnes and Williams but I also don't think its any guarantee that guys like Garcia and Narvaez will magically hit in 2021. Yelich and Hiura are both supremely talented so I expect bouncebacks but Garcia just isn't very good at all.
  15. Agree completely regarding Yelich and Hiura but I don't think much of Garcia or Narvaez. Garcia has been around for quite awhile and has had only two good seasons so I think he was a waste of 10 million per season. As for Narvaez he certainly can't be any worse and maybe if he completely ignores Haines he can improve but he flat out looked lost last season.
  16. I don't know why anyone would think this lineup is anything but terrible. How many games last season did the team get no hit for at least the first 5 innings. Yelich and Hiura should both be much better but besides that I don't see much to get excited about. Wong is a great defender and he should have a decent OBP but he doesn't make a poor lineup much better and I expect nothing from third base. I suppose Garcia and especially Narvaez could be better but I don't expect much from either. This is going to have to be a pitching and defense led team becuase the offense is probably going to be amongst the worst in the league. It also doesn't help having the worst hitting coach in the sport but Stearns chose to retain Haines anyway.
  17. Depends on how you look at it. I view realism and pessimism as too different things. You shouldn't question anything the team does. Just wave your pom poms and convince yourself that the front office and ownership can do no wrong or you are not a real fan according to a few.
  18. So you said ... a few minutes ago! Too bad difference of opinion is not allowed according to you. Not everyone can carry the water for the franchise as you do regardless of what moves this team makes.
  19. I don't get this idea that we should go with what we have for a lineup and sign more pitching when this lineup is amongst the worst in MLB.
  20. Absolutely not the kind of contract we should even be considering but fact is Turner was never signing with the Brewers.
  21. I don't care if they have to shut down the sport for a year for it to occur but we desperately need a salary cap.
  22. It would be nice if we made a move to improve the offense. Its great having a good pitching staff for once but I just don't see us scoring nearly enough to contend.
  23. He was never signing here so its hard to get too upset but this lineup as it currently stands is pretty terrible.
  24. Turner is going back to the Dodgers or if the Mets overpay maybe he goes there. The question then becomes do we go sign Franco or let Punch and Judy Urias slug .350 or so at the hot corner. I still think this offense is woefully short to be a contender even in a weak division.
  25. I have no idea where you're getting that number for Garcia, who hit more than 10 HRs in every full season he's played in his career. I meant to say 20 hrs is the career high for Garcia so projecting him for mid 20s makes no sense. He is probably a 15 hr guy if he plays 130 games or more which does not say big power to me. In the meantime other than Hiura the infield is pretty powerless unless you expect big things from Narvaez. We desperately need more power and Stearns doesn't seem to target too many power hitters. This offense was terrible in 2020 and pretty mediocre before that even with Yelich being the best hitter in the league. I put part of the blame on Haines being an inept hitting coach but the fact remains that we need to improve this offense and we really haven't done that yet.
