  1. Joke umpires now lets take advantage.
  2. Big chance for Smoak to do something.
  3. As a 4th or 5th option which he is Yardley is fine but he is nothing great.
  4. The deadline is about the only thing worth looking forward to and I have a feeling we won't do anything.
  5. We sure have a way of making bad pitchers look good.
  6. if someone wants to value Woodruff as an ace and give us a monster package I wouldn't be against moving him.
  7. With the revenue hit that teams have taken this season it would be shocking if anyone was willing to take Cain and his money owed. Walking away from a 60 game season and the salary that comes with it is far different than passing on the more than 30 million he is owed over the next two seasons so retirement is unbelievably unlikely.
  8. Woodruff has got a long way to go before he can be considered an ace. The stuff is clearly there and he can be dominant but he is just not consistently as good as he should be.
  9. Totally agree with this point. We cut payroll last offseason with the expectation of big crowds and I can't see us spending after the financial hit we have taken this season.
  10. 1)The DH will exist in 2021, not necessarily guaranteeing that he's a backup. Additionally, he's good for 2-3 DL stints in a year, regardless. 2)I think there's a strong possibility we've seen the last of Cain in a Brewer uniform. 3)1B/3B are typically more easily addressed via trade/FA than CF. If you can get a legit CF for a modest cost, you should do it. 4)This trade would spare us from watching more games with Garcia or Gamel manning CF this year.... Marte has one year on his deal. We can't afford to deal from a thin farm system for a one year patch job. I am extremely curious where you come up with the thought that Cain won't be back when he has two years left at 15 million per. Getting a long term answer at first and third base is not as easy as you make it out to be. We haven't filled either of these positions long term in quite awhile. Again how are we possibly not going to have Cain on this team. Nobody is trading for him at that salary and we aren't going to pay someone to take him.
  11. This would work if the DH would stay in the NL for next year which I think it would. Cain CF, Marte LF, Garcia RF and Yelich at DH. The OF defense would improve with Marte in LF over Yelich though it wouldn't be by all that much. Marte hasn't played RF and I believe he doesn't have the arm to play RF so he is a CF or LF only which would be fine if you want to play Marte in CF when Cain needs a day off or two. I think an Ashby, Lutz and Taylor package should get this trade done. Maybe just Lutz and Ashby or Lutz and Taylor could also be enough. UGH, no way I trade that package for Marte. just no way. So what about Hiura then? He slots into our every day job at 2B? If anyone on this team should be the full time DH it's him. Ashby could be a future top of the rotation guy for us, and everyone is always thowing Lutz into these deals, which I don't understand why. Ashby and Lutz are guys I don't want to trade. I wouldn't make that deal either.
  12. Minnesota and San Diego seem to be very aggressive in trying to improve their teams and maybe the LAD step in at some point. If Stearns plays his cards right we just might get that blockbuster offer for Hader and if we don't we can just keep the best reliever in the game.
  13. Definitely need to get a guy of that caliber. I am still holding out for Lux but Gore in this rotation would give us the best potential rotation over the next year or two that we have ever had. That would be assuming that the Burnes we just saw is the real deal... I'm a huge Burnes guy, but I think you are jumping the gun a little on our best rotation ever. Still questions on Burnes and Houser, and Gore is no lock as far as super star ace. I feel your excitement though! I believe in Burnes and Gore is the number one pitching prospect in baseball. Sign me up for a Woodruff, Burnes, Gore top three for the next 5 years. I know the Padres have many top prospects but Gore has to be coming back in any deal for Hader.
  14. Definitely need to get a guy of that caliber. I am still holding out for Lux but Gore in this rotation would give us the best potential rotation over the next year or two that we have ever had.
  15. Yeah, that .717 OPS would have fit right in. He is a better hitter than Mathias, Sogard, or Peterson and has been a proven masher against lefties. Depending on what it cost to get him he would be an upgrade in this lineup.
  16. Sogard is going to start against every right handed starter that we face so he is going to be playing most of the time. Good for him and the team that he won the game for us yesterday but its just going to mean he keeps playing which is not good for us the rest of the season.
  17. Jose Martinez would have been a very good guy for us to get if the price was low.
  18. And that's fine. But you can't really say that with the line "this is why you trade even the most elite reliever when their value is the highest." Either you're going to take the highest bid when his value is the highest (now) or you're going to hold out for elite prospects. We can't force anyone into giving us what we want for Hader. Relief pitchers are the most volatile of all players. I would always cash in on them if the offers measure up. In the case of Hader with all the control time remaining that should mean a big return.
  19. It won't. GMs of contending teams aren't idiots. They are idiots for the most part which is why I think we can get a monster package but Hader has walked a ton of guys this season and that can scare GMs off when the price is so hig to begin with.
  20. Yeah tonights blowup shouldn't lower his value but it probably will. The move will most likely have to occur in the offseason if at all.
  21. I'm only trading him for elite prospects. Whether thats Lux or Gore or some other top guy that needs to be the return when Hader still has 3 years of control after this one.
