  1. I believe Mr. Strearns and I have different opinions on what the term "robust" means.
  2. Maybe. You gotta think they are looking for a full time answer at first. They didn't cut bait on Thames to pick up a couple of jabornes to platoon at first. Or maybe they did. Who knows.
  3. Not worried about Brauns height. His inability to actually play first is the issue.
  4. A rebuild may not be the worst strategic move they could make.
  5. We say this all the time but nothing ever really is.
  6. I disagree in that finding needles in haystacks is a core operating principal for this organization, not some temporary measure to cobble together a roster. Has Arcia been acceptable the last two years, no. Are the realistic alternatives acceptable, probably not. Is a .731 OPS great, no, but it is acceptable assuming the rest of the line up is viable. If the team can add a catcher, a TOR starting pitcher, an alternative at third, a bullpen arm or two and a RH platoon option at 1st, then I'd worry about Arcia. Every one of those other items are more pressing in my mind.
  7. They aren't going to just cut him loose without a significantly better alternative. Right now they don't have that. Until/unless they do, he will remain on the roster.
  8. Is Gomes really any different than Pina?
  9. If you are going to throw darts at the dart board and hope something hits you might as well just hang on to Arcia. A proven upgrade is what is needed otherwise it's probably not worth it.
  10. Obviously there is an entire off season to go but I'd take it a step further and say that if the Reds do sign Grandal, another bat and a couple of top end bullpen arms, I'm not sure they aren't the better team. And yes, they have the money and prospects to easily accomplish that.
  11. Just because there is a need doesn't mean you sign the first player that comes along. His Rookie year was four years ago and he has gotten progressively worse the more he is exposed to major league pitching. I agree that nothing more than a minor league contract is warranted. Keep looking for a better option (it shouldn't be that hard).
  12. I think ya'll had better get used to seeing Arcia at short for another year.
  13. It does? What specifically are you looking at? Historically, at least statistically, the record suggests he should very much remain a relief pitcher. They may try him again as a starter but the more likely path is that they push him up the system as a reliever.
  14. The Reds pitching staff got elevated because they brought in a ton of replacements. They got Castillo who pitched about the same overall as he had in his career to this point. DeSclafani gave them 10 more starts and was healthier this year which probably helped his production. Tyler Mahle was still bad. They replaced Matt Harvey, Sal Romano and Homer Bailey's 69 starts with 62 starts from Sonny Gray, Trevor Bauer and Tanner Roark. There's no huge jumps in their relief staff either. This is pretty spot on. I know ERA is not the best judge but the Reds finished less than a quarter run better in ERA despite having a pretty clear talent advantage in the starting rotation. The Reds pitching stumbled pretty good in the second half despite making a perceived talent jump form Roark to Bauer. Bauer was horrible so I guess the magic didn't work on him. All of which appears to fly in the face of the pretty constant drum beat on this board that DJ was a miracle worker.
  15. I thought he was terrible? I'm so confused.
  16. So that's another hole to fill which was my point exactly. Trading Aguilar for just a another disposable arm still has me scratching my head. It wasn't like Jesus had sunk to Shaw type levels. Calling that situation a "hole" is a gigantic stretch in my opinion. Aguilar had a run but a lot of AAAA type players do. I don't think we will miss him much. A RH platoon option at first shouldn't be at all hard to fill.
  17. Very lazy review in my opinion. Why would Carlos Rodriguez not rank ahead of Ernesto? I know this is written from a fantasy perspective but it's not well researched and not at all useful for anything.
  18. LOL, hadn't even thought of that yet.
  19. To your point, FSU went far beyond just getting approval and in fact worked with the Tribe to eliminate, or change, a number of traditions that once existed on campus that the tribe felt were racist/demeaning. That says nothing of the lengths that FSU goes to in order to make sure that students and student athletes view their School nickname with reverence. What Washington and Atlanta are doing is the nonsense part of all of this.
  20. So it's ok because it was originally used to cheer for an African American that played for the team 30 years ago? Um ... ok. I personally don't care how it got it's start in Atlanta. That doesn't change my opinion that it is stupid and, yes, racist. Nice that you seem to ignore the Seminole-approved part. Sometimes a team's front office needs to stick up for their fans - especially against a visiting team's player when the complaint is clearly nonsense. Are you Native American? I mean, who the heck are you to speak for an entire ethnic group(s)? Further, you site a couple of surveys (not polls mind you) that contacted 1000 Native Americans in total and claim that proves a point? The below link clearly indicates the enormous number of indigenous tribes and associated groups that do NOT think this is nonsense and DEFINITELY have an issue with the name. You are just wrong here in almost every way and frankly, just offensive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Washington_Redskins_name_change_advocates
  21. I don't get it either. Lyles was the opposite of Hader where in his peripheral numbers were identical to what he was producing for Pittsburgh but that is the guy we want to win or lose with. In other words, he was getting lucky. I would have stuck with Hader until after Rendon and maybe longer.
  22. Which is a testament to how good his stuff really is most of the time. I do agree that Hader is best deployed in a more flexible role than as a "closer". I think that is right.
  23. Great post. Even after thinking through this for a day or so I'm not at all convinced that leaving Hader in was the wrong move. I understand why those that think he should have been removed believe what they believe. I'm just not convinced Hader wasn't the right call even with the struggles.
