  1. I'd be more inclined to buy this if it were a normal season. I probably wouldn't even be all that worried if these were the first eight games of 162. I tend to agree with some of the above posters in that this team just wasn't built to play a 60 game season. Now, no one saw all of this coming so it is excusable, just unfortunate.
  2. If true, and the offending team broke the rules, I think they should just have to forfeit all these games they are causing to be postponed.
  3. Hendricks was really good Friday. I just tip my hat on that one. He was, but the Brewers had absolutely no patience either. No excuse for being carved up by a chump like Chatwood today, though. I don't think it's a matter of it being an excuse. I think this is what you have. If Yelich and Hiura aren't absolutely raking, this team is going to struggle most games.
  4. Yeah, because we have Sogard......DUH! I didn't say I agreed with their feelings on the matter...
  5. You get uber props for creativity but I don't recall ever seeing a trade that complicated. Either way, I don't think Hader is moving any time soon barring some team getting stupid crazy.
  6. The problem with the entire notion, quality of the trade aside, is that I doubt the Brewers feel they need any additional help at third at this point.
  7. I agree with you to some degree. A smaller market team has to be a bit more creative but I don't agree with the sentiment that we can't contend unless everything is perfect. We just have to have a front office that understands our constraints. Having said that, your comment was that "When it all works we are competitive and when it doesn't we are looking who we can sign for a good value for next year.". I just don't accept that premise as evidenced by last years team. DS is building in layers of depth and flexibility for a reason. That is how this years offense is going to work, through match-ups and flexibility. This is exactly how the pitching staff has been used the last couple of seasons and now you are going to see that play out with the offense. Probably not ideal but given the circumstances of this particular off season, that was the way DS determined to go about it and he did it in such a way that he can change course next off season should the circumstances dictate that change. We don't need everyone of these moves to work out extraordinarily well. We have the flexibility to add at third in season if that need arises. Who knows, how this all plays out but the the Brewers have the flexibility to deal with it and the doom and gloom garbage is way overblown in my opinion.
  8. Define sure thing. Were Cain, Shaw and Chacin sure things in your mind going into last year? These are people, not robots, there are no sure things. If we had signed Smoak or Gyorko last off season would they have been a sure thing? I'd think we'd have been happy to sign either. It didn't "all work" last year, far from it, and the team was on the verge of winning the wild card game. This notion that everything has to go exactly perfect for this team to win is just flat wrong. It's like people forget the rosters we rolled in with the last two years. There weren't many prognosticators predicting the Brewers in the playoffs either year but there they were. Yes being competitive is enough. As we saw last year, the postseason is all about getting the right breaks, not necessarily which team is best on paper. The Dodgers have won how many consecutive division titles? They have spent tons of money and made all knids of splashy moves, what has that guarantee them? Nothing is the answer. Being competitive is the whole point. This whole doom and gloom narrative by a handful of posters is just bizarre at best. When it comes to roster construction and obstacles they want to forget last year but when it comes to player acquisitions this year all they want to remember is last year. At some point folks are going to have to understand that this is how DS is going to run this team. Sure, he will make exceptions of truly special talents but if not, he is going to mine for undervalued players. He isn't going to overpay for mediocrity. Its going to be on those two extremes. I can understand being underwhelmed by what they have done this off season but some of these reactions are so short sighted.
  9. Exactly. We just don't know. I don't expect that, but it doesn't mean it can't happen. Nor have I seen anyone that is actually expecting him to repeat his career year. That doesn't mean he can't be an effective player when put in a position to best maximize his strengths.
  10. It’s kind of interesting as last year could be one of those “all things go wrong” type years. Yet we still were in position to win the wild card game. No knebal No Wahl Burnes didn’t cut it Shaw was horrific Aguilar was a shell of himself Cain injured all year Moose missed time with injury Arcia was worst hitter in the league JJ was DFAd Albers was our best reliever not named hader for a stretch Spangenberg/Saladino were getting meaningful September at bats Opening day started DFAd Counsel is one of the best managers in all of MLB. Glad he’s on our team. Yelich getting knee capped should have been antoher big blow. It doesn't make much sense on paper but they seem to know how to cobble things together and have the depth to make it work.
  11. Third base is the lynch pin. I still think there is a decent chance Hader gets traded this off season if they do not come up with a different way to fix third base.
  12. Now that is a list I can agree with. So many of our higher upside players are in the lower tiers of the organization that you have to dream a bit, particularly with the bats. My personal preference is to favor upside with performance/results factoring more heavily the higher up the chain the player gets. I'd have to comb through a bit but I doubt I'd have much to quibble with on that list. I do think File is a legit mid to back end RHSP prospect but assigning him TOR potential is a little out there for my taste. I agree on Castro and Spanberger. They have had decent numbers at times but I always find if difficult to rank guys that were let go by other teams despite solid numbers. They just never seem to amount to much.
  13. Per Baseball-Reference, Kahle DHed 23 games, caught in 19, and had single games at 1B and 2B. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/milwaukee-brewers-organization-batting.shtml (This is the organizational depth chart). So what? Therein lies the problem with your flawed evaluation methods, you think everything you need to know is on a B-Ref page. What do the actual scouting reports say about his ability to stick behind the plate? The Brewers basically split time catchers all through the low minor leagues. This isn't anything new.
  14. I'm struggling to understand how a 10 game stretch should negate concern over whether Jimmy will be a viable major league pitcher moving forward. I don't think any of us knows what the Dodgers see outside of "eh, lets give him a million bucks and lets see what happens". He was once a promising pitcher and the Dodgers are the kind of team that can throw a million bucks at a gamble like that but I doubt they are expecting much on the return.
  15. As was stated everyone is entitled to make their own list but this post pretty much sums up why I believe Clancy's lists are useless. You simply cannot ignore scouting, actual talent and upside. Yes, he guessed right on Suter and has spent every minute since trying to replicate that guess with wild swings at players that have zero chance at playing in the major leagues. His lists aren't so much rankings as they are "favorites for diamonds in the rough" guesses. It's more than just looking at the back of a baseball card and those three deeps are just an opinion.
  16. Yeah, that's called a minor league affiliate, not an independent team.
  17. In a vacuum sure, I would have brought him in for that price. He may not have come to Milwaukee for that price and we have no idea what else DS has up his sleeve, if anything.
  18. Kind of surprising I guess.
