  1. No, people are creatures of habits. If you are always carrying something no matter if it is a gun, knife, mace, or anything else you are likely to forget you have it. A lot of times when I am carrying I forget I have mine on me. Unless you are always showing your gun off you shouldn't even know it is there. I would hope this is not the case. There are too many places that you aren't allowed to concealed carry. I also want to say you aren't allowed to drink a bunch and carry, but I'm not overly aware of the rules. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would like to think people carrying are very aware they have a deadly weapon on them when carrying...and therefore very few if any people would accidentally try to bring a weapon in to miller park. This is definitely not the case. I have a CC (though I live in NC) and carry religiously, but I NEVER forget that I have a weapon and never walk into a sporting event having forgot I was carrying. One thing, if you are drinking and carrying you are just setting yourself up for liability. I would never, ever carry if I was going to be drinking. I don't care how much "in the right" you are, if you shoot someone drunk you are going to jail. In the state I live in its illegal to carry if you're drinking. Second, you're an idiot if you think shooting a gun in a crowded event that like that is going to be effective. Most folks are not sharpshooters (me included) and would probably hit more civilians than bad guys. It doesn't work like it does in the movies. Lastly, it may be illegal to carry into a sporting event. If so, no responsible CC would not know and just leave the gun at home or in the car if it can be locked up. Maybe others have a different view point but that would be mine. So, I'd bet the number is very low as well.
  2. Is the Grisham resurrection the most surprising thing to happen this year outside of the Burnes implosion? To me...not really. The talent has always been there. He was a 1st round pick, he's always had the pedigree, he's always been young for his level. Hiura is about a game or two from losing prospect status. To me Grisham is our new #1 prospect. What is he doing now that he wasn't doing before? What changes did he make that would result in his current performance. If there are tangible answers to those questions then I would say he's for real. If not, then I'm skeptical.
  3. This is probably going to be too pessimistic for certain posters on this board but I'm not going believe they have turned a corner until they can show that this pitching staff can go through the rotation a couple of times at an acceptable level of performance. I need to see the consistency with the pitching. I've actually been pretty happy with the starters over the last few weeks. It seems they've figured things out for the most part there. I'm having a hard time remembering when the last time they had a starter who was shelled. The bullpen, however, has been a dumpster fire lately. So if you are talking about the pitching staff as a whole, I agree. Yes, the staff as a whole but it's not just about getting shelled. I want to see a 12 of 15 stretch out of this team before I'm going to believe.........and I'd challenge that a starter hasn't been shelled recently.

  5. Pretty much the definition of a middling team that's in an extended rut - they don't do anything extremely well with any consistency, so they can't count on anything working for them every game. That's a frustrating place to be as a team. They were fine in April and May though, and then just like that, everything went to hell. It's unusual, usually you see it happen to one or the other...either the Pitching goes, or the hitting goes, not usually both at the same time. I mean what changed once June came?? They were 10 games over...everything wasn't perfect, but they were working enough to get them 10 games over. They really weren't. They had a little run during the early part of May but there were always sings this was coming.
  6. No you didn't show that at all. You showed that the one bad month still looks bad when you add a 57 game stretch where they played over .500 with a positive run differential. You literally posted complete nonsense and you are still defending it. Trying to say that it isn't just one bad month and then adding a sample where the team was above average in both record and run differential is just downright weird. Before this bad month literally nobody thought the team was playing poorly and the stats told you they weren't either, it is a one month bad stretch. You said a bad month doesn't mean they can't compete. I show that after a 7-1 start they have gone 41-45, you then add your own examples showing the Brewers going one game under and one game over .500 as examples that they can compete. That is a pretty damn low bar to set that basically .500 can be considered "competing." Even in that 7-1 stretch to start the season which included going 5-0 in one run games (not something that's sustainable over a full season), their high water mark after that was 10 games over .500 had them going 32-28 with a +7 run differential. So yeah, one bad month doesn't mean they can't compete but one bad month with a bunch of mediocre months means they probably can't and even if they can, with two of our best players being free agents and a not great farm system to get help what exactly is the end goal for the season? Hope the Cubs continue to be mediocre and maybe win the division with 85 games or something? Try to win the wildcard with 83 wins and hope you can advance to the DS and then maybe win a series against a team that's better than you? Doesn't seem like a great plan. This is spot on. They did have another decent stretch during the early part of May that resulted in a positive run differential but they haven't played to that level since and haven't had a positive run differential in any other month. There are plenty of arguments our there trying to explain how this team is something other than middling but they all fall apart. They just aren't very good. They aren't horribly bad, but they aren't very good.
  7. And that's so wrong. He was terrible. Especially terrible when your starter goes six innings with no earned runs. Unfortunate that the offense couldn't get in gear earlier. We handed or supposedly second best reliever (and an all star last year) a two run lead in the ninth. The offense did it's job. The expectation cannot be that this team HAS to score five or six runs every night in order to win games. At some point this pitching staff has to hold leads consistently if this team is going anywhere.
  8. Who? Marcos Diplan? Jacob Barnes? Taylor Williams? Donnie Hart? I would say a big difference between this year and last is that we DON'T have the pen reinforcements in the farm to save us late in the year like we did last season. Devin Williams could be last year’s Corbin Burnes. Don’t rule out Rasmussen or Andrews or Perdomo either. September’s pen will be shutdown again. I think you can rule out every single one of them. Williams is walking over five batters per 9 Perdomo is walking over eight batters per nine in AAA. Andrews just now reached AA and Rasmussen has had his struggles there. You tend to have an overly optimistic (and really unrealistic) view of our depth. It isn't all that good.
  9. The players we acquire when we sell off anything not nailed down.
  10. At the risk of triggering the delicate sensibilities of certain posters on this forum, this is exactly what they are and have been for quite some time now.
  11. This would be an incredibly harmful way to run a franchise like Milwaukee. Sometimes instant gratification isn't the answer.
  12. A team can be both mediocre and a playoff contender in the double-Wild Card era. The 2019 Brewers are both. One of the 5 teams in the NL Central is going to be a mediocre division champion. History suggests that mediocre team could easily go on to win the World Series. One way to look at the current situation is that the Brewers have a golden opportunity to sneak into the playoffs if the right moves present themselves at the deadline. Nobody will remember the 90-win Rays or the 89-win Mariners from 2018 but the 2019 Brewers are in a much different and more enticing situation. Fair enough. I don't entirely agree but fair enough.
  13. This reminds me of the dude that wrote the dissertation about ignoring this pile of really bad performance over here and then turn your head slightly to the right and squint really hard and we are actually have a really good pitching staff. We don't. We are exactly what are record and extended period of play say we are, which is very mediocre with just enough talent to dream on. This is a mediocre team with a mediocre farm system with a mediocre future if they play this out like they are contenders...........which they did when they made some rash decisions early on with the roster.
  14. I think this sentiment will extend straight through the trade deadline. Pretty much every team in contention can outbid us if they want to. It's going to be a couple of under the radar moves and not much more. The players we have are going to have to play better.
  15. This franchise has seen one World Series in it's history. One, and there have been plenty of extended periods of comically futile ineptitide. This franchise is the definition of hell as far as sports franchises go. I would gladly lose 100 games fora few years if it meant a world series win.
  16. The pitching had a nice little run for about a week but it's rounding back into form. The bats can get going but until they decide pitching is important, this team is going nowhere including "in it". When was the last time that the pitching and hitting were both playing well at the same time? May? Rarely, mostly because the pitching isn't capable of going on an extended streak of success. Every message board for every single team will complain about inconsistent offense. Offense isn't the issue.
  17. I think the Reds probably have the better talent. I think both are better positioned for the future.

  19. This team isn't all that good. It isn't horrible, bu this team isn't all that good.
