  1. Strategy seems to be to take the first pitch and swing at everything else no matter what.
  2. He's been brutal against LHP this year (.518 OPS). So I get it, hard to see him having much success against Kershaw. I'd still take him over Broxton.
  3. I like the target. I'd be more inclined to try and send them some of the players off the rule five list though.
  4. Which is why Realmuto won't be coming here. Hiura isn't moving unless its for controllable pitching. I wouldn't assume anything about what Stearns would or wouldn't do. Stearns is extremely value-oriented and I don't see him pigeonholing his assets to fill one particular weakness like that. There were many who made that assumption about Brinson at this time last year. It would have certainly been met with a great deal of skepticism if I would have said last July that we would be trading Brinson and other top assets for an outfielder in 6 months. Let's just say that I'll believe Hiura gets traded for anything but a controllable arm when I see it happen.
  5. So what's wrong with Shaw? Anything other than a tough lefty on the hill?
  6. Which is why Realmuto won't be coming here. Hiura isn't moving unless its for controllable pitching.
  7. I don't necessarily think any one of those guys is an ace per say. I do think even mid rotation starters get paid an arm and a leg. So if you can stock y our rotation two through 5 with home grown, cost controlled pitching, you have an advantage and probably the means to afford an "ace" type of pitcher. If one of those guys takes a step forward (like Nelson did) and you get that ace, that is invaluable. Same goes for the bullpen. The reason the Fielder years were a very short window was because they could never develop any pitching. They had gaping offensive holes because the resources they had were used to acquire pitching (be it prospects or money). We have to grow as much of our pitching as possible and when we get some that has a chance we can't be giving it away for rental players or use it as an overpay for other players.
  8. The bullpen being nearly perfect in April and May allowed them to win a lot of games despite the consistently short starts and an offense that gets shut down, if not shut out, way too often. Whether heavy use in high leverage situations is a factor or not, almost everyone in the bullpen has slipped and a number of those close wins have been turning into close losses. Unless they can add some significant pieces to fill some of the holes (and soon) they’re going to have a hard time maintaining even the .500 pace of the last 6 weeks against a much tougher schedule. I just don't want them to do anything stupid while chasing ghosts. I trust DS to not do that.
  9. You're to have a hard time convincing Aguilar is not at least an average 1B.
  10. agreed. 26 pitches on Tueday should not make him unavailable on Friday. Get him back out there and see what happens. Apparently McCalvy was confused. Hader may (or may not) be available tonight. Stupid CC not talking loud enough.
  11. Exactly! All that matters is what the Oriole folks thought. Now lets get Realmuto...........at the right price.
  12. Serioulsy though, looking at the numbers a little deeper it looks like he is being challenged a little bit more by pitchers and that he is swinging and missing a bit more. He still hits the ball hard when he hits it, he just isn't hitting as many. When I, you know, objectively watch a game, it looks like his bat is slowing down and I think the numbers say the same. I don't know how you question his lack of durability at this point. He was great and all but he's getting old. It happens to the best of 'em.
  13. Wells, donts know bout all dem fancy numbers but I's do know he hurt..........again and ain't producin no good production (less words, I win).
  14. LOL, 7 games? Find me one hitter who hasn't had a seven game stretch like that.
  15. I don't even understand his existence on the roster so I'm probably not a good judge of why he is starting the first game out of the break. Maybe the just want to make sure he really does suck and don't want to wait until later in the week for that determination.
  16. Is this about the third stretch now where folks were talking about Aguilar falling back to earth?
  17. I guess that comes down to what you consider an "impact" player to be then. I (perhaps mistakenly) was under the impression you didn't think a rental like Dozier was an impact addition. Realmuto isn't coming here without either Burnes or Hiura in the deal and DS isn't giving up either.
  18. IF that's true, no wonder DS didn't get him...Nothing like lowballing them David. The Brewers' system is much more than three prospects deep. And 2 1/2 months of play does not define a prospect's value. Both Phillips and Ortiz were Top 100 guys as recently as last season. It is probably just a case of the Orioles liking the Dodgers offer better. Not much DS can do and he certainly shouldn't have upped the offer based on the irrationality of another teams FO.
