  1. 100% agree and as we step down the talent ladder to the next option(s) that list of players I wouldn't touch gets bigger.
  2. Dodgers can offer more because they have more and can afford to buy whatever they don't have more of.
  3. I think Olney is there. But yeah, Nightingale was promoting the Phillies as a done deal just yesterday.
  4. huh? This seems like a dangerous statement... Yeah, no. How about DS show the discipline he has always shown and do the exact opposite of that.
  5. Yeah but I'm not convinced Dozier comes all that much cheaper. Dozier will likely cost a fraction of what it costs to trade for MM. Cool. I don't think I buy that narrative. Still a lot of teams looking for infield help and he isn't that much of step down offensively from Machado. Supply and demand.
  6. Yeah but I'm not convinced Dozier comes all that much cheaper.
  7. Would you consider yourself hyper-competitive if you are ticked your team didn't make a trade that you are not even sure you wanted them to make? Asking for a friend.
  8. I don't know. A few days ago the Yankees had a done deal. Yesterday the Phillies had a done deal. Now the Dodgers have a done deal. Makes me think its actually the Brewers.
  9. I don't know. A few days ago the Yankees had a done deal. Yesterday the Phillies had a done deal. Now the Dodgers have a done deal.
  10. This team has had issues developing pitching and now that we finally have something of a pitching pipeline people can't get rid of it fast enough. I'd have a hard time parting with any of Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta or Ortiz at this point. Medeiros and Brown are quickly approaching that territory as well for me.
  11. No, absolutely not.
  12. Unfortunately that is the part of the "prospect evaluation" process that us armchair folks struggle with. There are a lot of folks on here that look at a stat line and think they can make an informed decision on what kind of prospect a guy is. Corey Ray and Luis Ortiz are examples. The concepts of tools and projection is a difficult one for us to grasp especially in this age of instant information so we tend to focus on production. I don't disagree that Diplan is an interesting comp, which might say more about the quality of Diplan and our reliance on stat lines to evaluate players than it does about the mediocrity of Medina. Either way, the Phillies value Medina highly (assuming reports are correct) and there appears to be an industry consensus around his projection. Corbin Burnes is probably the better comp when talking about trade value. At least people could look at the entire stat line and a player's performance over his career to make a judgement instead of just picking out the 2018 ERA. Medina's ERA is high but the BB/K ratio is 2.88 and the numbers over his professional career are very good. 327 1/3 innings, 3.27 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 2.85 K/BB ratio, 8.2 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, 0.6 HR/9. There is not a single alarming number there. Going to Diplan and his WHIP was 1.45 last year and has gone up to 1.54 this year. K/BB ratio under 2 this year and under 2 for his career. BB/9 ratio is a hideous 5.5 this year and is a fairly ugly 4.7 over his professional career. I had made the mistake a couple days ago of saying Medina might have slipped into the Luis Ortiz class and out of the top 100. But after doing a review, which was not only looking at the stat line but also going around the internet and looking at scouting reports (+ the Baseball America handbook), I think Medina is firmly in the back half of the top 100 prospects. Exactly. Sometimes those scouting reports are hard to find if the prospect isn't really highly touted, but they do exist and they add a TON of context.
  13. So much blowing smoke. Yankees were in the lead up until yesterday, then the Phillies, then we heard rumors of the Brewers being up there, not the Dodgers. I think it's all a load of crap. I'm not going to believe that Machado is traded, and who he's going to, until it's announced with certainty. Until that happens, I'm going to continue to believe that the Brewers stand a good chance of acquiring him. I'm with you except I'm going to assume the won't get him until they do.
  14. Now Dodgers are in the lead per Heyman.

  16. I asked a clarifying question. I would think that would mean I am not falling for anything lest you forget the absolute ton of poo I took for not buying in to the other guy.
  17. That has been the path of each world series over the past couple years, ie., rentals. Ask the Cubs. Without Chapman, they dont go to the series. Cubs farm system isnt as great now but they got a ring. Unless we get a controllable player before the august 30 deadline like the American league has done the last few years (verlander, or miller, but that Miller cost #1 prospect as well in frazier). It is simply too late in august for us to have had a chance, we had to give up CB otherwise half our team is on DL with no equalizer to fill the glaring gap. Thames and Villar dl forced this deal. Are you saying you know Burnes is in the deal?
  18. Then, if I'm Stearns, I immediately turn in my resume and patiently wait for that big market job.
  19. Everything seems to be pointing toward the Phillies just being more aggressive.
  20. I like Yelish on a hot dog every now and again.
  21. Word has gotten out. Up to 99 guests.
  22. I was more "in" early than I am now. I won't throw a fit if we get him (depending on the package) but I do think a move like that is a move that should put you over the top. I don't think it does. Hmmm. Well I'm not a huge believer in the concept of over the top anyway, as obviously there's no guarantees either way. That said, I guess I'd wonder if you don't think a guy like Machado can put you over the top, who that could be acquired would be? Or maybe you're saying you don't think we're close enough for any one guy to put us over the top. That's the thought.
  23. The idea is obviously super exciting and it’s hard not to get excited for a player of his caliber. But I’m really trying to stay grounded with the building of our franchise. The move just doesn’t make sense to me. Yelich-type move, I get it. Machado-type, I don’t. Yeah, it's tough to be patient, but I agree. That says if it does happen of course I'll be excited as I think 95% will be. Unless we give up some crazy stupid return which I don't see happening. Good summation Brew4. It think that probably describes where I'm at.

  25. I really didn't get that vibe at all. He wasn't even a board member during the HH19 incidents. look, i have no idea what HH19 is. Im not here to cause trouble. Im a sth in 215. I wear my pennebaker brewer jersey (Mr 3000 character) You're good man. Like adam said, thank you for sharing.
