  1. I guess I just don't believe the coaches have that big of an impact. I mean does Coles not get credit for the ascension of Aguilar to the degree that we blame him for the predictable regression of guys like Pina? It's not his fault Braun is getting old, Shaw is playing hurt and a good chunk of the primary hitters have spent time on the DL. I mean, I'm fine with Coles getting fired as a shake up move but is that really going to change anything. I'm more on the side of the coin that says this team just lacks the overall talent level to compete at the highest level right now.
  2. I agree. To clarify my point, the addition of two all-stars was supposed to fix what ailed this lineup, it hasn't. Now folks want to use more assets to acquire yet another all-star to take another stab at "fixing" the offense. How many all-stars are we going to need to acquire before the offense is actually good? Even if they could do that, the pitching still wouldn't be good enough and we are seeing that now. Do we deploy even more assets to fix the pitching as well? We obviously don't have the assets to do that which begs the question, why make any significant moves at that point? Starting pitching may not be our biggest weakness, but it is a weakness.
  3. I agree with this. Admittedly I thought the starting pitching would tank early. I was wrong, it took them until mid-way through for the short comings to catch up to them. The offensive uptick that was to portend a better offense never materialized because of regression and injuries with other players. The bullpen was definitely improved but not to the point where it could overcome the shortcomings of the rest of the team.
  4. It's a good thing we didn't have a better option to start yesterday.
  5. You have to take the good with the bad on these in-game threads. 3 or 4 years ago these in-game threads were one of the best parts of this message board. The conversation was insightful and clever and people really didn't over react to the ebb and flow of individual games like many do now. That isn't necessarily a bad thing... But I do agree with you that the immaturity grinds on you at times. I mainly come here if I miss something live and need an update on an injury or a play or something. Otherwise it is hard for me to stomach the "youthful" turn these in game threads have taken... Yeah, because the passive aggressive nature of comments like this exude maturity. Oh, and get off my lawn!
  6. This has to be getting close to "players only" meeting time.
  7. Miley threw 9 yesterday. Exception that proves the rule.
  8. Yeah, this intentionally trying to lose is getting old.
  9. What if they don't get one? What if the right deal never materializes? Are we comfortable missing the playoffs by one game again knowing we enter next season with all of our assets and cap space? What if they don't make a move and win the division?
  10. If "fading" means they won't budge on Burnes, then fine. Also said Phillies had upped their offer but Yanks/Dodgers in the lead. I want to part of a bidding war for Machado.
  11. Why would you take talent off the Major league roster though?
  12. Hmmm. I'm probably a little higher on both Dubon and Ortiz than some on here, but..................
  13. Better pitching matchup tonight and, hopefully, a good nights sleep will help.
  14. Well, made them burn through their back end bullpen arms at least.
  15. I would think that once you call it fair you shouldn't be able to change it mid-stream. That is what replay is for.
  16. No. Please don't put words in my mouth. That doesn't even make any sense. I was trying to say that you were saying that you NEVER play to win the game in front of you? Come on. That's a poor assumption. I said "continually" simply in response to your use of the same word. No, but OK.
  17. Which is both fine and a good point. To me though, that is more of an indictment on the quality of the starting pitching and a whole other discussion.
