  1. What did Fangraphs have us at last year? Probably an even larger difference.
  2. If we could get him for that, I'd be very happy. That is more than fair for both sides. I'm hopeful we will hear some good news soon. If he was available for that someone would have signed him by now.
  3. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Sorry, can't get past this. What do you think this word means? Seems like he's using the word in proper context. Brevity my friend, brevity.
  4. I’ve thought this myself.. I've been told players don't think this way.
  5. Oh, they can and it looks like they will. If DS thinks that is the best move then I trust him. However, I will not buy into the notion that some window has opened or that the Yelich/Cain acquisitions were made with contention in mind, not with this rotation.
  6. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Why? Seems like he's using the word exactly as he intends. Nonsense. You’re only saying that because no one ever has.
  7. I don't buy that first part for a minute. I think the Brewers think they got deals on both Yelich and Cain and that they didn't overpay for either. I would agree with your second point in that they have an opinion on what the remaining pitchers are worth and are standing on that opinion.
  8. That's wildly myopic. You acquire key assets when they are available. This is not a 1 year window. They may add a SP before opening day. They may add one at the deadline. They may add one next year. Regardless of when a SP is added, it has no bearing on whether or not the Cain and Yelich additions improved this team. So would adding one of the available starting pitchers not be adding a key asset?
  9. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
  10. Yeah and some fans also understand that you don't wildly squander assets to fix a temporary problem. Just because we have 4 starting caliber OFs, doesn't mean we should sell one at a huge discount. If the opportunity to move an excess piece to fill a position of weakness isn't currently available, you forge on and keep looking. Forcing yourself to take what you can get or putting deadlines on making moves is a surefire way to squander assets. This whole oft-repeated mentality of "do something, fix this now" is tiresome and irresponsible. I don't know what you're responding to because I didn't make any of those suggestions. In fact, you are pretty dead on accurate. Still doesn't mean the roster isn't poorly constructed though.
  11. Just because it's a fan's take doesn't make it wrong either. Just because DS doesn't come out and publicly bash his rotation, which is a silly notion to even suggest, doesn't mean it isn't true. This notion that someone said it was a bad thing that we had too many good players is a stawman, nobody said that. What has been said is that the roster is poorly constructed and overbalanced to the offense, which is true. You can be a good fan and still see the flaws in the team.
  12. At what point does "stuck us with" actually mean "worked with the pitching coach to acquire guys that he thinks he can work with to make better"? Because that's what happened last year. I think he needs to duplicate the success this year. One year can be a fluke and frankly he has had failures like Peralta. IF the pitchers that stepped up last year can sustain and others take a big step forward, then I'll buy in.
  13. What did you say a year ago when they entered the 2017 season with: 1. Guerra 2. Peralta 3. Nelson 4. Davies 5. Anderson DL- Garza I understand your point but the Brewers in 2017 hadn't just traded 3 top ten prospects for Christian Yelich, nor had they invested $80 million in Lorenzo Cain. Those moves, combined with the success of 2017, have drastically changed fans expectations and smart fans recognize a glut of talented OF and a dearth of talented SP. This roster is oddly constructed and while I trust Stearns and think he has done an amazing job as GM, I think he may have misplayed his hand in regard to the OF and SP. Great post.
  14. Is it possible that they want to see this group of retreads and youngsters pitch and be absolutely sure they can't handle it before they make a move. It just seems odd to me that they haven't added a better arm.
  15. Jhoulys Chacin was added. I think Chacin is more of a Garza replacement than a Nelson replacement. I know, a rotation spot is a rotation spot, but a healthy Nelson is a #1-#2 guy, while I'd consider a good Chacin more of a #3-#4 in a good rotation. Of course, Chacin could be holding down the #2 spot, depending on how this works out: Yes, they say only a couple days, but oblique issues are scary for pitchers, especially when you look at how much time Anderson missed with one last year. If this lingers, I wonder if it may be the impetus to getting Cobb's agent on the phone? I have a feeling he's still the team's top choice of the big 3, when value and projected contracts are taken into account. And so it begins. The house of cards begins to crumble......potentially.
  16. Jhoulys Chacin was added. Chacin will help improve on some of the dreck that was in the rotation to start last year but he will not replace what Nelson did last year.
  17. OK, they performed better than expected. It still wasn't good enough and the significant contributor to "better than expected" isn't on the team.
  18. Yeah I agree in that given how things have played out I'm not nearly as high on the Cain signing. I get Yelich but burning one of the two or three highly productive years Cain has left (most likely) is strange. At the end of the day a loss is a loss whether it comes from a 5.5 ERA guy or a 4.5 ERA guy. The pitching staff may be better at the back end but it's not nearly as good at the top and it just doesn't match up with the other supposed contenders. I'm not saying Stearns is wrong for not signing a pitcher. I'm just saying it is what it is which isn't good enough.
  19. He's a CC guy, nothing more to it than that.
  20. Maybe it's a self imposed deadline for him. I'm sure he wants to work so maybe he just said I'll take the best offer at the end of spring training.
  21. Feliz was a joke of a signing (still waiting for that "haul") but the counterpoint to that is the Brewers absolutely make the playoffs last year if they'd have signed Charlie Morton, a vet coming off a nothing year. Not quite the same situation, but I remember being thrown under the bus last offseason for even bringing Morton up. But I thought that veteran pitchers coming off injury or poor performance can't rebound? In all seriousness, it does make a lot of sense to give "proven track record" guys like Gallardo and Miley, and to a lesser extent Guerra a shot to see if they can rebound. Honestly, Trevor Cahill is another guy that I wouldn't mind signing to a minor league deal. I guess I'd prefer that shot come in AAA as insurance, though.
  22. In that case, we still need to add a pitcher because Chacin hasn't been very good. Are you saying Chacin has had a good spring?
  23. In that case, we still need to add a pitcher because Chacin hasn't been very good.
  24. I was big on Arietta but I think I've come around to this line of thinking.
  25. I like Suter as the long/swing man in the pen. Given those choices I'd go Woodruff and Miley. My guess is Guerra and Miley. No Guerra please... Give me Woodruff and Miley finishing the rotation if we're not signing Cobb. There's a reason why Junior didnt make his MLB debut until 30... And he was garbage when he came back last year. Just a feeling I get. I really don't have anything to back it up but it just feels like Guerra and Miley are they guys they want to step up and take those spots.
