  1. He'd be hard to give up but I think Yelich is a player I would make that move for.
  2. If they wanted Acuna from the Braves then this shouldn't be a surprise. This does seem to have some legs though. Other teams might be able to offer a better top end prospect but the Brewers may be a little deeper. Wouldn't hurt to know who else is involved.
  3. I'd buy that if the reports hadn't originated out of Japan, but they did. I dont't call them a pawn in a negative sense like they were unwittingly used but they were certainly used to achieve a goal. It happens all the time to big and small market teams alike.
  4. Sadly, this is probably accurate. It was fun while it seemed there may be a chance, even a small chance, that we could land him, but I think we were used as a pawn until he got the big offer he wanted. I agree 100%. There is a reason the report about the Brewers making an offer came out of Japan. It came from Darvish's people trying to drive up the price. The Brewers never were going to win a bidding war.
  5. Sure sounds like it. Reports all day saying they've been in talks. The big market teams were the only ones that ever really had a shot.
  6. I think that is logical. Maybe Burns, I. Diaz, Peralta and Dubon for Yelich?
  7. Not THAT is a bigger deal! They would have to give up a nice package of prospects to get him, though. The Ellsbury deal would likely have been for a throw-away prospect ... someone like Derby at the most. OK, so I agree with Joey that if Ellsbury was the target then Santana was move B. This would hold that theory. Would Dubon, Ray, Woodruff and Peralta be enough?
  8. Source?!?! He hasn't singed but the Brewers are out. They were never really in it.
  9. I'm guessing they were never really in it and that it had a lot more do with factors other than money. I'll go out on a limb and say it has everything to do with money. Either way, they were never really in it.
  10. I'm guessing they were never really in it and that it had a lot more do with factors other than money.
  11. I like this, maybe even as high as $175
  12. [sarcasm]Quit sucking the life out of this thread![/sarcasm]
  13. Makes a ton more sense than Ellsbury. Kipnis is overpriced, but only if you base it on his 2017. He's pretty similar over his career to Walker. They certainly could use Santana, having lost Carlos Santana in FA. They might even have interest in Thames too, opening up 1B for Shaw and freeing a spot for Brewers to sign Moustakas. Imagine an IF of Moustakas, Arcia, Kipnis, and Shaw and an OF of Braun, Cain, Phillips/Brinson with a rotation of Anderson, Davies, Salazar, Chacin, Woordruff/Suter/Guerra/Gallardo. That rotation still doesn't cut if for me. They will need to make one more move.
  14. That is the question that keeps hanging me up. If there is a move "A" that serves as the lynch pin, and that move seems to be taking on a bad contract to get prospects, how does that translate to "all in" and a cascade of other trades that back that up? Remember that HH19 said t his would be a big trade. Maybe our definitions of "big" differ, but that trade would have to a) send a significant piece out of Milwaukee and b)bring back a piece/pieces that make the team better now. It can't be a move to just take on a salary dump and get prospects. The only thing that I have seen that makes any sense given the information that has been shared is the Cleveland idea. The only other option is that if trade "A" is a salary dump, the acquired prospect(s) are just moving through.
  15. So where is the pitching. Say Santana goes to Cleveland. Is Salazar really the answer?
  16. Good. So the Brewers bring back and Ellsbury or a Shields. Does that qualify as a big trade? I still think something has to be going the other way that makes an impact. Shaw and Santana make the most sense. So, say Shaw and whatever go to CHW and Shields, Kopech and Anderson come back. Does that qualify as big or are those pieces moved for something else? Off the top of my head I'm not sure how close to MLB Kopech and Anderson are so I'm not sure if that is a win now move.
  17. I think Ellsbury would be legit too. *Assuming "need" is not the primary motivating factor. There's a few more than just those guys. Donaldson, Beltre, Gardner, come to mind as well. Agreed. What I'm trying to do is get to the next step. You were very clear that this was a "big" trade. I'm assuming that if the Brewers are taking back a bad contract, the only way this gets to be a big trade is if someone big is moving from Milwaukee.
  18. Oh, all of those guys are the crap. I'm hoping they all come with something really good. I'm actually hoping the brewers take Shields and a couple really awesome prospects from the White Sox. So let's play that out if having fun is the goal. The clear implication here is that the Brewers are working on a deal that brings back a bad salary and maybe a couple of good prospects. How does that lead to the next trade?

  20. Wish you'd said that before I spent 20 minutes compiling a list of no-trade clauses! LOL. It was a fun read anyway.
  21. What makes you think I'm not having fun? I was ready to jump in head first when this popped up and Crasnick was sort of confirming it. Then he walked it back and things started making less sense. I'd hate to think that this board is about going along with the group think or get out. I had a different opinion, I stated that clearly and never attacked anyone.
  22. And thank you for sticking your neck out for jayholes like me to take hacks at it. I've enjoyed your insights.
  23. I'm stunned. Taser or found out wife's pregnant? Either would do the job.
  24. I though HH19 did a great job of explaining what team Darvish was looking at when he reported that they were in sit down mode discussing Milwaukee. There wasn't a whole lot on that list that I would have bet on as a big draw for Milwaukee.
