  1. I'm pretty sure I agree with you but I'm equally sure the complete opposite is what is going to happen.
  2. I was highly skeptical of the Darvish stuff but that had nothing to do with HH19. I was skeptical of the web-o-trades theory but not becuase I believe or don't believe HH19. Look, if my truck driving brother in law calls me about buying some bio-tech stock he got a tip on from some dude "in the know" I'm not just jumping on it. I love my brother in law and, in fact, trust him immensely. I know he isn't intentionally trying to deceive me or lead me down the wrong track but I'm still going to be skeptical. If it doesn't make sense to me I'm going to tell him it doesn't make sense to me. If I'm skeptical enough I'm going to tell him that I want to see how this stock performs before I buy into the next "tip". He is an adult and certainly understand my position so isn't going to act like a baby and stomp away mad and stop giving me "tips" because I was skeptical and explained why.
  3. Tough place for HighHeat19 to be in if he’s actually being fed the information he’s sharing. If the moves actually play out he looks like a king on the forums. If they don’t, people will always question anything he posts. Tough spot. Hopefully he’s being truthful and eventually something rolls into what he’s been feeding us. Trust but verify, right.
  4. He said earlier today that it could be a week. Could be blowing smoke. Who really knows? I'm in I'll believe it when I see it mode.
  5. I think there is probably more nuance to it than that. I think if Stearns thinks he is being played, then yes, you make that ultimatum. If Stearns feels he is being dealt with in good faith then I think he lets it slide.
  6. We get it. Everyone on the team is garbage and we should trade all them because they are all going to regress. For the rest of you fine folks with regard to this statement, no....just no.
  7. Based on what I've read over the last few days that quote would have applied to half the board no matter who was in the deal. But besides Brinson being mentioned, no ML roster player really mentioned to speak of. Hence the mentioning of deal Stinging by HH. That would sting. Trading off minors players not as much IMO, especially of Arcia. You're right. My point was that saying the offer was going to sting is a very general comment that could, and would, apply to a large population on this board regardless of who was in on the deal. So yes, in an abstract sense, Arcia would sting but there is zero chance that Arcia is part of that deal.
  8. Eh. Didn't read anything about he Marlins liking our offer, just that they considered it serious. I'm sure Darvish thought our offer was serious as well but that doesn't mean he liked it and in the end he leveraged it for a better deal, which is what the Marlins are doing.
  9. Of course you let teams shop your offer because you want the same afforded to you when the shoe is on the other foot. You don't let them do it forever, but you let them do it.
  10. Based on what I've read over the last few days that quote would have applied to half the board no matter who was in the deal.
  11. That's kind of where I am. I think Ortiz is overrated. I'm the opposite. I'd keep Ortiz over either of Woodruff or Burnes.
  12. Do you still give it a roughly 95% shot of happening? I'll go with no but I'm curious to see the answer from HH19.
  13. It doesn't. That's why it's probably not happening.
  14. We get it, you don't think Yelich is a franchise player. No need to beat it to death. Talented guy, lots of years of control. I'm good with giving up a haul for him. How could you say it isn't good news when no one actually knows the offer? That
  15. So two things here. 1) I like the idea of Yelich, but am uncomfortable about upping the offer. I trust Stearns, but at the same time hearing that make me a bit cautious. 2) This could drag out another week. My refresh button may not be able to take it. If they are a week out on this then I'm going to side with this ain't happening either.
  16. I'll admit that my initial offering was probably over the top but I was trying to not overvalue our own prospects. I still think Brinson plus one of Woodruff, Burns, Ortiz is the start.
  17. I'd say that's probably about accurate with what the actual proposal is. We might need to throw in another guy or two but they would be much lower level prospects (#20-#30 type guys). I can't see Stearns giving up more than that for just Yelich at this point... It seems too steep for me. Brinson/Woodruff alone is fine. I'd rather do Brinson, Bickford, and Dubon for Yelich and taking the disgruntled Castro off their hands. I'll go Ortiz, but then, they need to throw in a couple of lottery-ticket guys from full-season A. They are not going to damage Yelich's value by packaging him with any salary dump. It's going to take a much better pitching prospect than Bickford.
  18. You still at 95% on this HH19? I'm guessing the confidence level has come down a bit.
  19. You would be OK with Brinson + Burnes? Wow, that's crazy to me. I think the deal is going to be Harrison, Burnes and a rookie-level kid like Lemons. No inside info, just a gut feeling. If the reports about the Marlins asking the Braves for Acuna are correct then Brinson is in this deal if it happens.
  20. Well, he's not entirely wrong. The argument is really about whether the team is ready to start using assets to acquire more proven assets. I highly doubt twi7 would have any problem with this if he were more confident in the rest of the existing roster. Not trying to speak for twi7, just an assumption I had made. Trading for proven guys that are under contract for 4-5 years is not stopping the rebuilding. I fully against signing the likes of Cain and trading assets for 1 year rentals, but if we can get a proven, youngish guy right now that under control. Whats to say if we aren't as good as we thought, we cant trade say Archer away for prospects. That's the other point. I strongly disagree that acquiring a guy like Yelich is a change in course.
  21. Well, he's not entirely wrong. The argument is really about whether the team is ready to start using assets to acquire more proven assets. I highly doubt twi7 would have any problem with this if he were more confident in the rest of the existing roster. Exactly. Check back with me in July and if Shaw, Santana, Knebel, Anderson, Nelson (if he's back) etc. are doing what they did last year I'd be much more open to using some prospects to get upgrades. While I tend to lean more toward buying in to the performance levels (particularly on the offensive side) from last year. I am less bullish about the pitching but that is where you have to stop looking at the Yelich move in a vacuum. If they do indeed get Yelich, that will not be the only move. They will get more pitching.
