  1. And this is the reason Stearns is the GM and the folks on are.., well, not. You can add Nelson to the list as most were reluctant to give him a starting spot out of spring training. I don't remember a strong furor over the possibility that Villar would fall this far. Where would this team be if each of those things had come to fruition when the popular opinion was to do so? It just proves that Stearns is really, really good at his job and most of us would pretty much suck at his job. You can't be a GM and react emotionally. Agreed..... Stearns has been good. We are glad that we have him. Yet, there Seems to be a lot of OF and bullpen shuffling going on... can't believe emotions aren't involved there (most I'm ok with). If you believe roster stability is a key to being a good GM, then Stearns wouldn't be your guy. Seems every other day a roster move is being made. Look, We have a fairly deep group; some of the popular moves to get guys out of the lineup/rotation might have been the better move at the time. Some guys also stunk it up royally before being sent down, and one (Villar) is seemingly stuck here til 2018. No, I'm pretty convinced that everything Stearns does is shrewd and calculated. I think him not making a stupid deadline trade is pretty fair evidence that he is not operating under any emotional need to react. The roster churn angle is a new one on me. I think the idea that a team has a set starting 8 is pretty antiquated. Almost every roster features positional flexibility and every team seems to have their fair share of churn. I'd expect a building team to have more.

  3. I know we all like a good story and we all root for the "little" guy. However, despite the success in limited innings, there is little reason to believe he is going to make it. Sure, let him start as long as he isn't blocking anyone, but I doubt he lasts on a pitching staff in any role.
  4. Brinson, Lewis Hader, Josh Hiura, Keston Ortiz, Luis Woodruff, Brandon Ray, Corey Burnes, Corbin Bickford, Phil Clark, Trent Diaz, Isan Peralta, Freddy Williams, Taylor Harrison, Monte Dubon, Mauricio Ponce, Cody Gatewood, Jake Phillips, Maverick Diplan, Marcos Medeiros, Kodi Lutz, Tristan Erceg, Lucas Nottingham, Jacob Lemons, Caden Lopez, Jorge Harrison, K.J.
  5. This is kinda the whole system in nutshell right now. Immense talent but enough warts to make for a lot of question marks.
  6. Corbin Burnes says high. I kid. I do like a bunch of the arms they drafted this past draft. Murphy, Bullock and Morales come immediately to mind.
  7. So much focus is on Corey's hitting stats. Don't forget the guy is a valuable fielder and base runner too. Plus by all accounts, he is a great teammate and competitor. This is still a fantastic prospect. Nope, uh-uh, no way jose. Until that batting average gets up to some arbitrary number that I deem acceptable, it is a stone cold fact that Ray is a complete and total bust.
  8. This really is the tease of the Milwaukee system. So many guys with such great talent that at any point one, two, three or who knows how many could breakout at any time and really launch this franchise..........or none of them do and the naysayers get their "I told you so" say in the sun. The system doesn't lack talent. It lacks skill.
  9. Nobody cares if your wrong. Everyone on here has been wrong. It was the condescending attitude on the subject for which you were totally and completely wrong on that riles folks up.
  10. I think that is probably more a product of an organizational philosophy than it is their belief in his ability to play third. You may be right but I have a hard time, off the top of my head, thinking of a player the really plays one position exclusively.
  11. This is about what I would expect from Suter going forward. He doesn't have the stuff to go through and order multiple times and the league is starting to get the book on him.
  12. I put this question in the prospect poll discussion thread but I'm not sure that Harrison will not have taken the bigger step forward (over gatewood) this year when it's all over.
  13. When it's all said and done, Gatewood or Harrison, who took the bigger step forward. Both have been impressive but I might have to go with Harrison. If he finishes strong I would have to rank him behind only Brinson and Hiura.
  14. I can understand this: The Brewers got a combined total of five runs against the Cubs over the weekend. Only the fact Brent Suter tossed a gem kept it from being a sweep for the Cubs. That will not cut it if we have to face `em for the division title down the road. It didn't cut it in a series the Brewers had to sweep and instead lost one full game of ground. If Gatewood can play a passable shortstop and hit 25-30 homers while Arcia can't get an OPS above .725, I'm inclined to go for him, and deal Arcia so some other team can violate Al's dictum of not paying a good-field, no-hit shortstop and give us prospects or some missing piece for a pennant run for that "privilege." If Arcia's bat comes around, then I'm happy to deal with the "problem" of figuring out where to play Jake Gatewood. But if it doesn't, I want an in-house offensive upgrade available. You understand run prevention, correct? Not only that but you are assigning some pretty lofty numbers to Gatewood. I'm not sure at all that he has proven he can do that but at the same time you question whether Arcia can push his OPS up .20. Gems typically don't get pitched without solid defense behind them.
  15. I don't mind the goofy top 25 lists so much. At the end of the day it's just an opinion much like it is for the larger publications. What I do mind are these kind of statements. Coulter should move back to catcher, Gatewood should move to third, Cordell should play short, Suter should be a closer. This isn't a video game or fantasy baseball where you can just stick a guy where ever and let it go.
  16. Nope! 800+ ops at every stop or immediate failure. There is no waiting on development.
  17. I have empathy for fans who will die before they seriously go after a championship. A lot will. Heck it's been 35 years and I see no sign that any World Series are likely anytime in the foreseeable future. There's an awful lot of fans that have passed away since 1982. They had a chance this year. Not a great chance but a chance and guess who got the 2 guys who would have been the most help? That's right. The Cubs did. I'm an optimist. I won't throw in the towel just yet. But it's discouraging. As for the rebuild? That's almost laughable. I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard about some rosy future for this team. They had more hope when John Jaha, Jeff Cirillo and David Nilsson were top prospects in their system. How'd that work? And those guys actually had some success in the big leagues. They have some nice prospects. So what, they should have. Some of them aren't producing in A ball. Oops! Brewers can't go out and buy Jon Lester's of the world. They never will. Which is why what Stearns has done is the correct play.

LOL, and I'm the Pope.
  19. No, but it surprises me some people actually think Stearns is passive. He certainly has been this month letting his rivals sew up the division while he stood pat. wisely so
  20. Not even close.
  21. I am glad we didn't include Brinson in this deal. Anyone else though, given this return, I would have pulled the trigger. I would have had a hard time with Ray, Dubon, Ortiz. No way I give that up for a pitcher that has a lot of things going against him.
  22. I am glad we didn't include Brinson in this deal. Anyone else though, given this return, I would have pulled the trigger. Then the Brewers were never really in it.
  23. I thought I read somewhere last night that the A's wanted Brinson or no deal. Didn't sound like they would settle or much else. If that is the case, DS made the correct decision. Now we just need the Cubs and Yankees to eliminated from the playoffs in dramatic fashion and for the Dodgers to come up short so they trade for Braun in the offseason. Heyman said it today. A's wanted Brinson and DS said no.
  24. I'm thinking Brinson, Ortiz, Dubon would have gotten it done.
