  1. It's starting to look like our minor league system is really just Hader and Brinson, with Hiura on the way. What do you mean starting? You've been beating that drum for over a month now.
  2. Correct but I don't think our secondary options are the equal of what the Yankees gave up.
  3. One top 100 prospect according to MLB pipeline (#77). To me this seems roughly equivalent to Ray Ortiz and Diaz. I would have done that deal. I would not have and It has been reported a few times that the A's wanted Brinson so any comparison deal starts with Brinson.
  4. His stats have been a disaster across the board and last I checked his velocity was down. So yah not sure how this will fare. KRod 2.0? Didn't KRod pitch like crap everywhere but here?
  5. I like the back half of your post here and we are all probably a little bit guilty of not keeping that in mind as we post. However, there is a small faction on here that tends to take a particular opinion they have and repeatedly state said opinion as fact. Is it possible that the team morale was affected by not trading for Quintana, sure. Does anyone on this board know if that is the case, absolutely not.
  6. Not sure about those last two. I think maybe those would have happened though maybe Cordell with a different aim. They have to clear some of this Rule 5 chaff somehow.
  7. They have 16 players with a FV of 50 or above. The top six are 55 or higher and only one, Brinson, is a 60. I would imagine Hader would be a 60 as well. Not sure how that stacks up but there it is.
  8. Doesn't matter what your opinion of player value is and I'm not saying that to be snarky. The truth is, the A's may not value Brinson as high as we do or they may value Florial higher than we do. Your basing your assumptions on arbitrary prospect rankings and trying to draw comparisons and that just isn't going to work.
  9. What are Brinson, Arcia, Santana, Nelson, Hader and Shaw? I don't think you have to turn "farm" assets into help, you need to turn all assets into help. This was never a division contending team. No need to dump those assets now. I think there have been reports that the A's are asking for Brinson.
  10. Not quite sure I understand the context of your post, but MiLB.com did grab comments from Colorado Springs hitting coach Al LeBoeuf as part of a feature article with additional video -- Dubon scores career-high five runs for Sky Sox Brewers No. 9 prospect reaches base in all six plate appearances By Alex Kraft / MiLB.com Just frustrated. Dubon did something in most contexts that should be considered outstanding and raise his status and value, but given the context of 6000 feet above sea level, we have no idea how to analyze it or if it means anything for his future prospects with the Brewers. Nor do we have any idea how it fits into his development progression. I wouldn't worry about Dubon all that much. I think with Sogard gone next season he is probably in the mix to fill that role for now. I think Hiura is going to move quickly and ultimately bet he 2B of the future but I can totally see Dubon getting some reps in the OF and at 3B and becoming a super sub type player getting 5 or so starts a week.
  11. Probably getting tired. I'd bet his innings limit is not all that far off.
  12. This is where I'm at. These trade (external) trade pieces have been known for some time. It's obvious this team was playing over its collective head and I think Stearns is smart enough to know that. If they can make a deal for some controllable pieces without giving up any top prospects, then do it. If they can get something for a Thames, do it. Otherwise just hold and play the plan out. They do have a little bit of a log jam with the 40 man with the approaching rule 5 so I have no problem with them selling off pieces they don't see as part of the future for short term, immediate help. It's a good PR move to the casual fan and, why not.
  13. I wish they'd keep him behind the plate, although, he has played IF and C as well. He's played 5 of his 413 innings at catcher and that was last year. I think the catcher ship has sailed for Garcia.
  14. Of course if a team has a ton of players ranked in the top 100 they should absolutely have a high overall team ranking but that doesn't mean you can't have a high overall ranking if you don't. Your logic is faulty.
  15. So do you believe this team is playing to its true talent level or not? If you believe this talent group is a legit contender, whey would they not be a contender next year? If you don't then why throw resources at a sinking ship? I don't think you have to have a generational player at all. Nor do I believe that having one is a guarantee that you will have success. At what point do we get to start appreciating the talent already at the big league level? I hate to break it to you but Jimmy Nelson has been pretty damn good. Knebel, Barnes and Hader are great bullpen pieces. The developing position player core of Brinson, Arcia, Santana, and Shaw is pretty darn impressive in my mind.
  16. That is every team though. If you look at any team board there is always a contingent of fans that think the manager sucks. It's just white noise at this point.
  17. How are we defining "big time". I would define that as "elite". If so, which minor league players entered te season as being considered "elite"?
  18. Once again, really good post that gets at the heart of this thing. If anyone on this board is expecting any of the prospects in this system to be Braun or Fielder, then you are most certainly going to be disappointed. That type of top 10 talent does not exist in this system. The strength of this system is, and will remain to be, the depth they have.
  19. Great work Geezy! Pretty much what I have been saying in that Ray and Erceg have been the only ones truly performing below expectations. I apologize ahead of time for the blow back you are going to get for daring to give context.
  20. It's funny how people get caught up in someone's opinion of where a prospect ranks. The 2016 archive for MLB Pipeline had Diaz at 97 and he sits at 99 now but some folks on here want to act like that two spot drop is somehow earth shattering. There just isn't all that much difference between a guy ranked 70th and a guy ranked 100th on any of these lists. Sure, we all wish some of these guys had more dominant years but we are still talking about prospects that are the best of the best.
  21. I agree. But these total points in their ranking system, in the opinion of Pipeline, correlates with their opinion of the teams overall ranking. Are they 19, no way IMO.. but they might not be top 10 anymore, based on TOP PROSPECTS that will have the greatest impact. Now your just talking in circles. You can have your opinion but your flat wrong on the interpretation of that article and OB58 correctly pointed out the article EXPRESSLY states that this NOT A TRUE GUIDE OF WHICH ORGANIZATIONS HAVE THE BEST OVERALL FARM SYSTEMS. Seems pretty clear to me. Secondly, when A Swing posted about he was inferring the article was speaking about the overall ranking of the farm system, which it doesn't. So yeah, I did read and I believe you're still wrong.
  22. 105.7 is saying Brinson will be in the starting lineup tonight per McCalvey.
  23. Dylan Bundy's next start was just pushed back by a few days... 2+2 = 5? I had the thought that maybe Bundy with O'Day or something like that.
