  1. I let a pop up drop at SS and we got a DP out of it. It's not bush league at all, it's taking advantage of bad softball. It happens in MLB once or twice a year, usually on a bunt with the pitcher running (or not running). You cannot touch the ball, you have to let it drop, risking a bad hop or spin and not getting anyone out. With that risk, you deserve the reward.
  2. If he would have went for it, I would have signed Linebrink to be the closer, for about 40% of the price CoCo signed for. We'll never know, because Scott signed before Frankie. That 4th year might have been hard to swallow, but compared to Cordero...
  3. Not sure what you mean. I commented it was too spendy for me. This is a place where folks comment on topics, right?
  4. Prince isn't going anywhere, but if you do a trade with the D'Backs, Chad Tracy is the guy to go after. As long as he is healthy, he's a top 10 3B.
  5. I'd love to go, if I had money to burn. But, the price limits it to the very wealthy...fine of course, as that's who has the money to donate, and it keeps the riff raff like me out.
  6. If they wanted to do so, they would have to buy jerseys from Majestic Athletic, the exclusive apparel licensee of MLB, which would have been more expensive. They are not clamping down at all, just making them use the company that pays MLB for their trademarks. I can't believe anyone was using it without paying for it, that's a huge violation. Kinko's won't make a copy from a book.
  7. Spending $150 on a dinner seems a bit much for a commoner like me.
  8. Hall scored a while back on a close play when the ball was several feet away from home. I remember that the C caught the ball just as Hall was sliding...would have been out had the throw been good, but since "it wasn't even close", no one even mentioned it.
  9. In the past, I have seen catchers run all the way to the dugout to tag out a runner. Never seen an out call before the tag was made.
  10. Almost every player with an option was waived in early April. No one was claimed. Yikes.
  11. Yeah, i won a couple, then lost 19 cents.
  12. My book says to cut off the stems, sponge them off, and drizzle them with olive oil. Cook about 3 minutes per side. I've never had 'em, so I know nothing from personal experience. It also suggests cutting into them and stuffing garlic and other stuff in the bottom, saving some in case it falls out.
  13. I don't know Russ, I think it was a must win.
  14. I never got a degree, and I doubt it has ever cost me anything. Some places, like Menards, won't hire management without a degree, so I never applied there.
  15. In a competitive tourney, an ump said foul by mistake...at that point, it was a dead ball, even though several of us saw the ball land fair. The ump admitted his mistake, and told the other team he goofed, but he could not change it, as we had stopped playing the ball. If a HR, it could have been changed, but not a live ball...it turned dead when it was called. It made sense, but I've never looked it up. No one asked for a replay, so I don't know if we could have said "do over" or not. The other team's manager walked back, explained it to the batter, who said, "That sucks", and he got in the box.
  16. I think I clicked the entire page...with and without the CTRL key held down. I am stuck at 0.00.
  17. Didn't he already have an offer from the Badgers?
  18. I was going to go to this, and then I remembered I'm me, just part of that middle class that I hear has went extinct, but missed me.
  19. The coach has a good angle, if all it takes is a throw in the vicinity, you probably only have a 5-10% chance of scoring. But with 2 outs, if it takes a good play from the OF, a good throw to the cut off man, a catch and a good throw to the C, and the C to catch it...that's 5 things that have to go near perfectly. If they do those well, the runner might be out by 15-20 feet...if the OF throw is off, or the 2B bobbles it, or doesn't get a good grip on the ball, or can't find the catcher, or throws it on a short hop that's hard to catch, you might well score. Again, it's math. Even with Braun up, you're only going to score from 3B with 2 outs 35% of the time...if you have a chance to win the game on a small mistake by an opponent, you go for it...and tell them good job if they can make the out.
  20. Counsell has played more of late at SS. Hall's OBP is about .200 vs. RHP, just off the charts bad. Some of it is bad luck, but I'd blame his lack of discipline and bad approach for most of it. Tonight, he swung wildly at the 0-1 pitch, then cut way down and blooped a hit in 0-2. If he starts doing that, his OBP will rise 100 points in no time. Branyan is what he is (another Doug Melvin minor league signing that is now helping), but he'll never match Hall's 2006. The question may be whether or not an extremely wealthy Bill Hall ever will...
  21. I'd love to see our staff 13-14 deep, as a week ago, I saw 10 guys and a couple others to mop-up.
  22. I think Russ was saying his injury affected his 2007 numbers. I can't believe this thread was active.
  23. I am surprised DiFelice had good numbers vs. LH's in AAA, as his one pitch he throws almost every time moves right into their wheelhouse. He's fine AAA depth, and if pitches well in Nashville, he'll get another chance, in Milwaukee or elsewhere.
  24. He looked like an all-star, good location, and incredible movement. No one hit the ball well at all, and several hitters looked foolish. He may not be a guy I'd want babysitting my son, but tonight, he was a pitcher very capable of helping out an overworked late inning crew. My neighbor's a very nice lady, and I wouldn't want her pitching in the 8th down one either. If it were all about bringing in nice guys, Jim Abbott's available, but he wasn't very good 5 years ago. Remember how Moneyball said, "We ain't selling jeans?"...we ain't starting up a role model agency either. I would not want some scumbag on the team that'd be doing time if he wasn't an athlete, but if he's a jerk, so be it...I worked in retail for 15 years, and I knew plenty of jerks.
  25. Looking at it on replay, Blanco had no momentum going forward at all, and still almost got him. Erstad ended a game over the weekend on a ball about 15-20 feet deeper. With Braun up next, you could make the argument to have him stay...but you'd be wrong.
