  1. Our vehicle has a severe engine defect. It is using oil at a clip of about a quart every 1000 miles, and getting worse. We just found out is is not still under warranty due to odd accounting by the extended warranty company. We are looking at a rebuilt engine at $1100 plus labor or adding oil until it blows. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
  2. Saving Private Ryan in the theater did, as I heard many senior citizens of both sexes crying loudly. Field of Dreams certainly affects most anyone who was close to their dad. By the way, one of the best things about Field of Dreams (and many other films) is that the funniest line in the movie is very close to the saddest part of the film...it must only be a couple minutes from "When'd these ballplayers get here" and "Wanna have a catch"? I'm not sure, but the emotional swing probably plays a part in many people feeling strongly about it.
  3. I have long said stadium sauce tastes like ketchup and BBQ sauce mixed up, so I guess you could call it a sweet BBQ sauce...but I would not.
  4. Shrooms, onions, peppers, all grill nicely. We like our asparagus in the oven better, but it works too.
  5. I live within a mile or two of the girl. All my client contacts this week have expressed extreme sadness about the whole thing. i have been asked by a couple women "How could this happen"? Life is an incredibly fragile thing, whether it be an 18 year-old getting shot in combat or this tragic event. I have a hard time justifying the family's only comment to the media (as far as I know) was to tell an AP reporter that they were not "crazy religious people", as letting your child die when a hospital is within walking distance and I now find out they belong to some fringe group with Unleavened Bread in the title. Astoundingly, most people seem to feel no charges will be brought. It's almost beyond belief.
  6. Heh. No, it never rains in Chicago in mid-April. And yes, the Brewers would LOVE playing their first 14 games in early April...wouldn't that draw well. Sadly, some teams have yet to realize a retractable roof has been readily available for 2 decades now. I feel no pity for them losing dates, only for the fans stuck out in the elements because they feel the pain of "wasting" $50 tickets.
  7. The year he played in Wausau, he was a man among boys...big, tall, and muscular; and every throw to 2B between innings was right on the bag. Hard to believe he topped out in high A after looking like an unstoppable force among college kids.
  8. DLR would be an outstanding guy to have as AAA depth, but he would be for anyone. Hard to believe a guy with that much ability just can't put it together, even after a great WBC. I'd say someone will put him on the 25 man, but this does not seem to be a year many teams are going with potential.
  9. You are not the only cofused one, many media reports are reporting it still as $300 per person.
  10. Same reason tennis is quiet...both sports are concerned about decades of tradition and not about making the game fan-friendly. The PGA Tour makes its competitors wear dress pants while they participate in an athletic contest...so common sense need not enter the equation.
  11. It may not make much sense, but if you have trouble saving money, you may want to leave it the same. I'd a lot rather have $1000 than $20 a week, even if it makes little sense.
  12. I also love the Arby's sauce...on darn near anything. It's even very good on baked potatoes.
  13. I don't think there's a way to do that with the travel. Now, if the Concord was still in use, and/or every team had to make the trip, that'd be fair and something the union would agree to...after all, I'm sure a Japan team would pay a few players huge money.
  14. Again, you are looking at this short-term, with no outlook on how strong MLB will be overseas in 50 years. I would imagine it is likely MLB will some day have a team or two in Japan, along with 1-2 in Latin America (I gotta believe Mexico will occur in the next decade). The growth of the game that has happened in the past decade is beyond belief, and I am sure it will continue for the foreseeable future. These minor blips on the radar, like the A's gaining huge attendance for a pair of games, will only help with yet another record.
  15. What should they do, sit around all week? Japan is about 17 hours time difference, and the trip takes what, 12-15 hours? A day off before and after the series is simply outlandish. I'd love to play one of those teams upon returning. EDIT: It looks to be a 10 hour direct flight from LA.
  16. Unless they have him pitch in relief at AAA, moving him down won't limit his innings much.
  17. I can't imagine it being worse than 1250. I've heard statements on there I would have thought were ridiculous when i was 9.
  18. I'll be grilling some sort of brats on Opening day, turkey unless I "splurge" on cheddarwurst.
  19. Long-term growth of the game is the real motive here, and there's no doubt it was a success. Fans miss several games a year for any variety of reasons. We'd still be playing without gloves with 2 pennant winners playing in the World Series had the "purists" kept the game from growing.
  20. I usually have several, but never anything other than what's on sale. I've never met a BBQ sauce I did not enjoy. I do usually have some sugar-free stuff around for the many coatings I put on my BBQ wings in the summer, as it does not burn.
  21. I also have several BBQ sauces, I love those.
  22. I don't think they have to trim anyone, unless McClung is not the 12th man.
  23. I did not even know 6 kinds existed.
  24. We only have yellow, in case my father-in-law visits. Actually, I add it to marinades and "cowboy beans". I would bet it's a couple years old at least.
