  1. I would say 75% of the public will not get it. That's not a good sign for sales.
  2. How many LH OF reserves can one club use? And goodness, if we needed one, Kenny Lofton is infinitely better than Pods...heck, many folks don't even remember Scott, he was long before many fans discovered the team.
  3. Opening Day tickets are scarce because of higher season ticket sales. Bars have had their allotment cut as well. I would say there's a good chance your friend heard what he wanted to hear or simply assumed he could "do what he's always done". Or maybe, he got bad advice. I've never heard any issues with season tiks, as the Crew knows this is their base...probably 33% of their attendance comes from these folks.
  4. remember, WI folks retire generally to AZ, not FLA. Huh? I know more who have gone to FL myself, and I do not believe there is a correlation, as they are both hot and about the same distance.
  5. As someone with 500+ Yount cards and items, book value means nothing. I've bought $10 cards for $1 and vice versa. One of my proudest finds was a mac and cheese box, unused, with Robin on it. It was $1.95 at a card shop in my hometown, back then, single and awash with cash, I would have paid $40 for it.
  6. I made wings on the grill about 40 times last Summer, almost always with a BBQ sauce of several layers. There's certainly nothing wrong with 'em, as many either don't like or cannot stomach a hotter sauce.
  7. Minor league 2B, with rare exception, are 2B because they cannot play SS. If Crabbe can play SS/3B, he's a decent utility option. If not, he's AAA filler. My money is on the latter.
  8. Yes, heaven forbid someone like honey BBQ wings. What a knob.
  9. It would only be an upgrade if Vargas was never needed, or replaced with someone equal. Considering most teams have 20-30 starts with a 6-6.50 ERA, they need SP depth. They have some of that now with Parra, but if you're looking to have Manny replace Claudio, who gets those starts when injurues or ineffectiveness occurs? Other than Zach Jackson, the AAA cupboard is mostly not ML ready, and Zach isn't likely to do any better than 5.50, at least not right away.
  10. Not really, many seem to think Vargas has limited value. At this point, his salary is the only concern, as he'd be an upgrade for 25+ teams as a #5 SP. With Livian Hernandez making $5M and on a steady decline, you could easily argue he's still vastly underpaid. Only the very low budget teams would not have an interest.
  11. As others have said, what others make is not really even part of the equation. Often times, they need to pay people what it takes to get someone in. At this second, all you should have to do is point out the fact that they would have to pay someone more to replace you. However, making a big deal of it get you nowhere. If you're ready to leave because of it, make that known, but be prepared to be shown the door, unless you are truly valued.
  12. Doug has said repeatedly he only cares about improving the Brewers and maybe getting a AAA guy who could help out at midseason. There will not be any "Vargas for prospects" type deals, unless of course he would have to be waived otherwise.
  13. Casey may well be correct about the WI side, I have only MN side reference...but of course, the question was about the Cities.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. That's a good way of putting it, and exactly why Boras goes year-to-year with almost every single player. I'd sign a long-term deal, at 75% of my "market value" in a split-second if I had a year like Braun. $30M in hand is much better than $45M if I stay healthy.
  15. The Brewers are not blacked out anywhere near the Twin Cities.
  16. Munson is all but guaranteed a spot. I don't see a place for Vinny, barring injury to Dillon, Kapler, or a C.
  17. I might add a care package of some of his favorite snacks and music might be appreciated, as would mail of any kind. Get his address and send him something once in a while.
  18. He's a professional soldier. Tell him you support him and wish him the best. There is not a whole lot to say, especially if you are not that close to him.
  19. Nickelback
  20. If the Royals don't finish last, will it be the Sox or Twins?
  21. Does anyone know whether a change in ownership and location would affect the contract the Brewers have with the Sounds? Nope.
  22. I don't see that being used for recruiting. Hard to tell your kids to maintain their cool when he can't get through a press conference without yelling. His gals lose today as well. So much for it being a pep rally speech.
  23. I have heard of them sending a couple packs or a card of a particular player.
  24. Renewal just means the Crew filed his contract with MLB, no sig required. Only for players before they are arby-eligible. They could just pay them the minimum, if they wished. They could pay them all $5M. The players have no power at that stage.
  25. Pogo, maybe I could fit one team into my schedule this year.
