  1. Hart moved up quickly because he hit and hit for power at every level. I'm sure his athleticism played a role as well. Few 18/19 year-olds have much pop at all. When they do, they get noticed.
  2. Fox Trax shows just bad the home plate ump is. Not only do they suck, they suck inconsistently.
  3. I never understood the bad rap Morgan got, he plays hard and has a bit of showmanship in him. DC has been struggling to find a CF since the day they dealt him. EDIT: And if we're going to talk trades, Doug won the wildcard by getting CC. Picking up Felipe Lopez for a role player prospect was superb as well. I still hate not having Laporta and Brantley, but there's no doubt that was necessary to add the 2-4 wins needed to make the playoffs.
  4. Kubel is almost the same player as Ryan Ludwick, ditto for Corey Hart, not quite as good on D. Kubel hits RHP far better, but since most SP's are RH, he's plenty solid as an everyday corner OF. I'd love to have Hart or Ludwick as a reserve too, but needless to say, they're closer to all-stars than bench guys. Above average players not starting caliber? That's just off.
  5. Furcal or Infante on a one year deal with an option makes sense to me, with no SS in AA/AAA. A RH bat to protect Gamel at 1B is too easy. More than likely, a utility INF to replace Counsell, and to provide insurance for the SS that's brought in, Scooter or Carroll.
  6. I'm sorry, I don't do impressions. Thanks, I'll be here all week, and don't forget to tip your wait staff.
  7. I've heard that several times with reps, always at the liquor store (never grocery, convenience).
  8. I can't believe softball bats cost $180-350. Golly.
  9. Congrats. I have too, lost 40-50, then gained, then lost, and so on. Secrets?
  10. Very true on Yuni's SLG...the average SS is so bad offensively, Yuni's OBP is barely below average, and Yuni can hit doubles and HR's.
  11. DiFelice is a ROOGY unless he comes up with another pitch, especially if he's cheap. That said, he's a darn fine one if he gets back to 100%, and can pitch like he did in '09. He'll have to be hidden versus LH bats somewhat, but Loe does as well, and he's found success.
  12. I assume Gillespie plays in the PCL West...big parks to make up for thin air. Bad OF defense, and bad OF arms. All that adds up to triples for gap hitters.
  13. Ortiz could play a week at 1B. No way he'd sign to play there full-time. The chance of embarrassment and risk to his legacy is far too high. I can't believe he'd project much higher than Gamel, even ignoring the defense. Fenway has helped him greatly, I'm sure.
  14. Ryan, however, would be exactly the type of player you could get quickly and easily if Yuni was injured. That's why losing Luis Cruz, while bad for AAA depth, has little bearing long-term. Doug could find a couple decent gloves that get out 70%+ of the time in 24 hours.
  15. I like Cruz as AAA depth, but that's all he is. He can't hit a lick, and no hit/good field SS's are a dime a dozen. To be one of the best of those guys is like being the best Caucasian dancer at the inner city club. If the Crew needs a Luis Cruz type, they'll locate one and trade someone with minimal talent to get him aboard. Counsell or Farris will have to play SS for a few days...hopefully, they won't make a pair of E's like Yuni had yesterday in one of the games.
  16. Back to the original point, Kotsay certainly is not as good a CF defender as Gomez, but he's now played parts of 3 games out in CF and he can certainly play CF if necessary, albeit at a below average MLB level.. One has to remember that CF's, on average, only touch the ball 3 times a game, and often, they are just on routine fly balls and singles. As for Hart, none of us have any idea if he is healthy, be it his oblique or something else. He said the day off Sunday was much appreciated. It's a long season, to be honest, Prince and Ryan could likely use a game off now and then, especially if at less than 100%.
  17. I meant to owners who would move the team. It's probably not feasible long-term to survive in Greer.
  18. Kotsay has a -1 UZR and has been superb at the plate, good AB's, solid OBP. Branyan would be a nice power bat off the bench, but probably can't do anything but PH (other than play 1B, which is meaningless). I don't see a match.
  19. Boggs has gone unclaimed on waivers twice now. His value is minimal.
  20. Any rumors of selling the team?
  21. Someone link me up to this, or whatever the latest info is. I have a person who wants to do a term paper on the subject, and is looking for links.
  22. Chuck Crim Craig Counsell Casey Candelle (sp) The ATL SP who just got hurt, undrafted Probably 5-10% of MLB players fit this bill, I would guess a lot of utility INF's and backup C's.
  23. Too bad Tiger took up someone else's spot to not give much effort.
  24. Dandelions are far prettier than grass. Hence, I keep 'em.
