  1. You're basically paying Drew for 400-450 AB's. If you go into the season thinking that, you'll hit expectations. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed.
  2. With a #1 and a #2 like that though, it still is a decent list.
  3. I just feel Roberts is close to Gross and others. If he were RH, he could platoon and protect Gross or someone else. If they go after Dave, I'd assume they want him to platoon with Brady, for the most part.
  4. As a platoon LF/DH, Sosa absolutely has value.
  5. I have Braun in front of Yo...sadly, Yo and every P is one twinge away from being a former prospect.
  6. End, you seem to forget that injuries occur, especially to SP's. If we start the year with Carlos V as our 6th starter, getting regular work in N-vile, I'll be giddy, because it means we have outstanding depth.
  7. The funny thing is, I said stolen base totals, not stolen bases. 67% is commonly referred to as the break-even point, and few guys are over 75%, so it hardly matters...but Roberts is. Also, any team in which Roberts is the LF is simply awful offensively, unless you have Edmonds or Beltran (a CF who hits like a corner OF) in Cf.
  8. I like Roberts, but it would make more sense if he were RH, or if Gross, Nix, or Gwynn were RH. He has good OBP skills, and while SB totals are a waste of time, he has over 80% success, 84% if you disregard '05, when he was likely injured. He could well help Hall, Weeks, and others.
  9. I thought Ken Harvey would be nice AAA depth as well. Why does Stephen Randolph sound familiar?
  10. Clancy, but we only have a few roster spots to fill each year. Few teams have more than 20 spots open each year. I'd love to add another team for everyone, but that doesn't seem likely.
  11. Enrique Cruz would be nice to get back for Nashville. Terry Adams and Bubba Crosby are 2 names that jumped out at me. So, is the BA list accurate? That's sure not many compared to the predicted ones.
  12. In the at bat he did walk, he looked completely comfortable with every pitch coming in That's how Weeks looked in Beloit in 2003, as if he was simply above it all.
  13. I think Aaron's name comes up here as much as I brought up Corey Lidle at Ramblings.
  14. Pierre doesnt seem to play well when the weather is cold Allow me to correct that. Pierre doesn't seem to play well [snip]. Done.
  15. Kevin Youkilis is a fat slow guy, and he hit leadoff, and scored more runs (100 to 87) than Juan Pierre. Because he gets on base (91 BB to 32). There you go again, clouding the debate with meaningless facts. Until they learn to measure heart and grit...
  16. Honestly, I think the low K thing is PR by Melvin, anyway. I agree, mostly at least. Pierre, yuck.
  17. A 3 ERA in an off-year looks appealing to me. Doug will add a reliever or two this offseason, and if King is inexpensive, he would be a choice that wouldn't bother me. I'd even go 2 years for $3-4M total. He is far from a Howry/Eyre $3M per guy, but he's not bad.
  18. Does not compute. Does not compute. Games: 51. Innings pitched: 38.1. Average outing: .75 innings. Does not compute. What a waste of typing. Stetter likely never faced the same batter twice in a game all year, and still had a mediocre, to be kind, 4.50 ERA. I don't know how you can look at horrible performance like that (or Krynzel's) and even pretend they deserve a shot in the bigs. Maybe someday, but not now. Braun has a hitch in his swing, but Stetter didn't do that badly? Please.
  19. Stetter had a 4.50 ERA in AAA, pitching an inning at a time. He's proven he's not ready, just like Krynzel has.
  20. Briggs' offer is "ok", though Mench's value may be low due to his small sample with the Crew.
  21. I thought the same thing about Sarfate, before his poor outing. No good way to spin 5 hits, even if some were the bloop/grounder through the hole variety.
  22. Braun makes me salivate. In a "He's so dreamy" sort of way. I gte the feeling we're going to be talking about that hitch in his swing just like he discuss Hart's elbow.
  23. With a lot of AAA depth, not to mention role players like Gross, I could certainly see a quantity for quality type trade, especially when you figure in the fact the Crew seem willing to pick up salary. For instance, if the Crew feels Carlos V is ready to be a 5th starter, they can probably find a decent SP on the market similiar to Tomo Ohka. That could allow them to deal Davis, an OF (Gwynn?), and a blocked prospect (Hernan? Alcides?) or two for a power hitting OF? I have no idea if that's feasible or not, but the idea is valid.
  24. I wouldn't go into 8 figures with him per year.
  25. Well, Dave Krynzel could be a 5th OF right now, and he is probably a plus defender and has plus speed. To be an eternal optimist, he's "only" learning how to hit away from being a very good player. Of course, so are a lot of guys.
