  1. If I recall correctly, Paciorek could play 1B/3B/LF/RF...nice utility guy.
  2. I can't believe someone started a thread for this!!!!!!!! Sorry, just can't help it. As always, my first thought is how skinny all the players are. Weight training was not in, to say the least. Even Glenn Braggs looks normal.
  3. Dickey isn't that bad without the knuckleball, serviceable at least, so this is a fine addition.
  4. I would agree with Pogo, but with Oxspring a close second. He would fit the "Helling type" more, as he's been a starter, if memory serves.
  5. Barring several injuries, Yo will be sent to minor league camp with the first or 2nd cut. They have enough real decisions to make without wasting innings on a 20 year-old who was in AA.
  6. Brian, does it help you if we click on those Google links? Many of us would do so if it helped the site raise money.
  7. Well, according to others, there are about 5 #1 SP's and 15 #2 SP's in MLB, so those designations mean little, as they come with no standards other than casual wins and name recognition. Bush is an above average SP at this point, and he's near his peak. Can't get much better than that.
  8. 1. Where did Doug say "way over budget"? This has been mentioned a few times, and I've never seen this quote other than here. 2. As for the OF, I would have to think a Lieber/Jenkins combo would yield an upgrade in Jenkins' corner OF spot (not sure if that's LF or RF). And I'd hardly call the OF a mess, as at the moment, we have too many decent, if unspectacular, options. This is the deepest Brewers' team ever, with solid reserves everywhere (except possibly 1B).
  9. I would think Narron would open at AA, with possibly Dillard returning to AA...have we heard any official word on him moving to the bullpen? And Rottino will play nearly every day, so he should be listed as a starter somewhere.
  10. Very unlikely, though Doug has said he'd love to add a "Helling type" for the bullpen. I suppose it's possible Turnbow/Mench's salaries come close to Lieber's.
  11. Lenny would seem to be an very toolsy type, with speed on top...you can't steal 1B, I guess.
  12. Adam, I agree, it was a fine write up. What was said about his D is almost exactly what I've read elsewhere.
  13. Colby, will send right now.
  14. Toby, I'll send it to you on your bfan e-mail, don't want to clutter up the board. About the only thing I can say where mine differs is that I give more credit to those who have "proven" they can be role players in MLB, like Gwynn and Rottino.
  15. I made my list last night, but forgot to send it in. I guess we'll see how close the overall is to mine.
  16. He was also outstanding in the AFL, sans one bad luck outing. Hopefully, he's "figured it out".
  17. The Crew are legit contenders in '07, no way they trade their solid closer.
  18. He'll only platoon, so there's no chance he reaches 507 PA's.
  19. I assumed Mercker would retire or sign with the Reds.
  20. I do projections at Ramblings and they usually are similar to Pecota, Shandler, and others. For the most part, it's just math, with some adjustments for potential breakout seasons. The true measure is how accurately they are able to guess big improvements and declines, and for the most part, none do it very well.
  21. Bumping this so folks can read Part 2. It seems to indicate that playoff teams get much better pitching from their bottom 20% of starts than other teams. It's almost like an ad for SP depth. LINK, Part 2
  22. I'd say Jorge Sosa or Mark Redman would be all but perfect as far as the long relief/spot starter role, as would Jerome Williams. But, given inflation, these guys might well get $3M as teams figure out they need SP's. Sadly, if they are willing to accept less, say $750K, they won't want to come to MIL, even if they're given guaranteed deals, as the opportunity may not be nearly as much with the Crew as elsewhere.
  23. I was thinking Gross/Rottino would replace Prince's bat, as Hart moved to 1B, as i have Jenkins/Clark platooning in my mind. While both good role players, I see a dropoff of 100 OPS points or more.
  24. Koskie is a solid 3B who is only making $2M from us. He also has no trade value until at least mid-March, if he proves he can play everyday.
  25. This is why I don't understand the indifference about how improved the Brewers' depth is. A falloff from Hardy to Counsell is about a game, using the 10 run rule, and Weeks to Graffy even less than a game. Bruan might be better than Koskie, or at least neutral if you figure in his supposed defensive issues, which may or may not be real. Pretending there is some huge disparity between JJ and Craig is just incorrect and emotional. If you think the Crew will win 88 games with JJ as the SS, the math puts them at about 86.8 with Craig. That is not much falloff at all, and oodles better than most. The one guy this team cannot afford to lose for a significant period is Fielder. A solid AAA vet at 1B should be on Doug's "to-do" list.
