  1. He does get lefties out almost as well as righties. He's a guy that's just never put it together like most thought he would.
  2. Very solid AAA 3B, but little chance he'll develop into anything more.
  3. Injured relievers don't start throwing 150+ innings as SP's and stay healthy. As a hard throwing late inning reliever, I'd take a flyer on him, but considering his lack of health, I'd only go $1.5M or so, and 15 other teams might do that.
  4. I can't believe sausage pizza is not a staple all over. I was surprised to see Red Baron has a hamburger pizza available, maybe this explains it, that ground beef is more popular in some areas than sausage.
  5. A few years ago, Shopko had white ankle socks on sale on Black Friday, for something like 6 pair for $3. I bought 4-5 packs, and years later, am still wearing them, despite throwing out a bunch, due to holes. The other day I noticed I only had a couple clean ones, all the rest are in the laundry. I should have bought more. I often think I bet I was the only person that went to Shopko that day to buy socks.
  6. 20 AB's is especially meaningless when you consider early season winter ball is taken as seriously as beer league softball. Many veteran Latinos don't even play until the last couple weeks before the playoffs.
  7. I'd not wear red just to be unique. You can wear whatever you'd like, you paid your money (or, no one knows you didn't).
  8. In the South or the East, if memory serves, I think he wants to be closer to home.
  9. The Twins do not seem like a team wanting to make a 1y/$6M commitment to Hardy. He's always been injury prone and seems to take a while to come back from minor nicks and bruises, so maybe that's it, or maybe, they just don't think he projects well after two down seasons.
  10. I'd wear shorts all winter if it was socially acceptable. I always used to walk the dog around the block even if it was 20 below in the Cities. However, if i did this in the daytime, I'd get so many remarks, I'd put on sweats just to avoid the contact.
  11. Garza is better than Floyd (though not a lot better), but Gavin seems like he might be a match, while Matt does not. Shields makes far more sense, I'd prefer Floyd. Grienke would take Lawrie, Cain, and probably Jeffress or another top arm. KC has no use for Prince. I have an issue dealing 18 possible seasons of pre-FA production, half of that at the minimum, for 2 years of a SP. EDIT: Floyd has a lower FIP and xFIP than Garza over the past 3 seasons, but a bit higher ERA. It'd be easy to make the argument Gavin is better, though I would probably still take Garza, salary and cost being equal. That said, Floyd looks to be a consistent, well above average producer. He might blow his arm out with his next pitch, but at the moment, he's near his peak and projects to have about a 3.75 NL ERA, as far as I can tell.
  12. My wife often notices similar items on Freecycle that are selling for $100-200 on Craig's List. People always think their own crap is far more valuable than other people's.
  13. As noted above, he's a solid #2, as the AL average ERA is about 4.40, and he's well under that...that's what a #2 is. His translated ERA, lowering it generically for the AL/NL switch, has him close to Yo the past couple years. Not going to do better than that other than Lee.
  14. 3 years of Floyd, who is a very solid SP, as a 4 ERA in the AL translates to a 3.70 ERA in the NL. Yo's career ERA is 3.67.
  15. Either would be a nice guy to have in Nashville, on a minor league deal. Byrdak will find a job somewhere, so he'd need an opt-out date around June 1st.
  16. No problem sir. I have been on both sides of the fence in regards to looking for a job and people.
  17. No stat based bonuses is correct. To me, games finished is one, but it can be used, along with those mentioned above.
  18. Revocable waivers means you can recall them though if claimed. That's hardly a scary thought, as stated, they almost always clear.
  19. Don't you have to be up 5 years before you have to clear waivers to go to AAA? He's got options.
  20. 1. I'd mail it, and use nice paper. That still matters, and may get you an interview. 2. To Whom It May Concern would be correct, if you do not know who will be reading it. 3. Personal stuff like that is fine, and again, may boost you over George Generic, who is from Chicago, went to school in IL, and is now applying. If you will not require a relocation fee, mention that as well. 4. They will call references if you make it far enough, so only put down people you are ok if they contact. I used to put "references available upon request," until it occurred to me that sending them another sheet later is a pain for me, and likely isn't looked at fondly by them either. I just put 'em on the resume.
  21. This also gives the Crew a good chance to get an extra pick, to replace a 2nd round pick if they sign a Type A. I think Trevor will retire unless he closes. SD is possible, but I just don't think he wants to do anything but get saves.
  22. He's worth about 3y/$20M. One of the things Theo understands, and says often, is you're not paying for past production, you're paying for the future. Derek seems to not get this. Sure the Yankees can throw away $10M per, but they can do that on someone with a lot more ceiling than a 37 year-old SS who never had anymore range than me after a big meal.
  23. I don't like young pitchers as much as young hitters because they get hurt far more. That's why the idea of dealing Lawrie for an arm that may be one pitch away from struggling to not suck scares me so.
  24. He has a career -4.1 UZR/150 at 3B, so his defensive problems there may be overstated, that's about what McGehee had in '10. Very nice bench player, always had a nice OBP as well. Career 800 OPS versus RHP, so as I said, as a platoon stopgap, he'll be better than the average everyday guy.
