  1. Like all sub 6 foot RHP's, it will be an upset if he makes it as a SP. Some do, but so few they are probably 5% of all RHP's.
  2. The Crew just played the White Sox at MP in '08 or '07, I think. They were marquee games.
  3. That's a poor example of how to use a message board. It's stuff like that that scares away quality thoughts and brings in silliness. That's a shame.
  4. Fingers was 4, Sutton was 3. The Brewers, by not retiring Cecil Cooper's number, and Gantner's too, I suppose, have all but said the HoF is the deciding factor. I suppose Aaron's was related to the Braves, but that's strange, as so many fine players, Spahn and Matthews, are ignored because they did not finish up with the Brewers.
  5. We had the driver's side mirrors damaged twice in the late 90's, but never anything stolen.
  6. Braun signed for far less than market price, and wants to stay in MIL.
  7. Maybe Rogers will get the start after Bush gets outrighted to AAA. I s'pose that should be in blue, as someone will think I'm serious. I assume the Rogers family is just not very MLB knowledgeable, being from Maine and all. Remember, sometimes guys come up from the minors and have no idea DH games last 9 innings and a coat and tie are required...think how ignorant the families are. I read a story once that said a rookie went to Fenway for the first time and compared the Green Monster to a minor league park which had a tall LF wall...modeled after the Monster, of course. He thought BOS had done it because of the park in the minors.
  8. I'm not sure if it still is, but the Texas League used to be very offense dominated, lots of 12-10 games, and very hard to develop pitchers.
  9. Fingers and Aaron did not play much for the Brewers either, but both are in the Hall, and both have their numbers retired. A more interesting question would be Edmonds, if he were to make it. If Trevor's is not, they will have to figure out a minimum number of games played.
  10. Just when those in hell were celebrating the fact they got to see a MLB game, they found out who the umpires were, and once again, suffered for past indiscretions. One was heard to say, "Just when I thought it couldn't get worse." Imagine if it would have been hot tonight.
  11. No one cares if Farris has a future in MIL, the fear is who has value that you may lose for nothing.

  13. The Brewers have wanted to call players up twice and were unable to get them to MIL in time twice this season. The IL would be better unless they were on the West coast.
  14. Youkilis can play 3B if they find another 1B. Beltre is gone, and Prince could be looked at as a one year signing, like Beltre was. Theo can easily offer him arby, while some teams, though mostly those who have no interest, cannot afford to, as they are afraid he'd accept and make $22M in '12.
  15. These are frowned upon by MLB and the NBA, as it can create a bit of "point-fixing". I think the NBA has banned them, but all leagues hate them. And stores beg people to use the coupons, it's their advertising. It will increase traffic enough to easily make up for it. Many stores will take the coupon off if you just mention it, or say you forgot it at home. Margin is great, but sales are the life blood, as they lead to repeat sales, positive word of mouth, and so on. Buffalo Wild Wings gave away free food during their "soft" opening in Point last week, a Mexican place near work dropped off 100 "$5 off" coupons with no minimum purchase for the office. Just trying to get people in the door, and food cost is what, 20-30%? It's a cheap way of getting you in the store.
  16. Prince is not a fit for the Crew, nor about 15-20 other teams in MLB. Of the others, many teams have a 1B and a DH. That will only leave 3-6 teams seriously looking at him. However, it only takes one. BOS and TEX are my favorites right now, as both will be under pressure to win, and win in '11. He's fit in nicely with either, and both have solid farm systems to allow a solid arm or two dealt.
  17. The ump saw it in his peripheral vision. I did not see an assist, so I would have ignored it.
  18. Macha is speaking of protecting Cain by not having him face SP's that he has little chance of doing well against, setting him up to succeed. There are no guys like Hamels in AA, LHP's on average, are awful in the minors, often being pushed because they are LH.
  19. I'd add Merklinger to both lists. I'd have him over Green, who reminds me of Inglett, nice player, but his ceiling isn't all that high. I'd also have DM over Farris, who is limited unless he can play SS/3B/OF. A LHP who K'd more than one an inning can easily be hidden as the last man out there.

  21. I think they'll get 2-3 players, but only one P may be MLB ready. I think they'll sign a FA as well, but it will likely be of the bargain variety.
  22. The past three years we've been spending $20 million+ on Suppan, Hall and Riske. Where's the value there? Add Hawkins, Davis and Hoffman this year. We've been paying for uselessness for years. If we are going to spend $20-25 million and I'm not sure I want to right now, I'd rather spend it on one elite player than on three crappy players like we have been the past four years. You are assuming we make no further mistakes on signings. That hasn't happened in a long time so I have a problem just assuming that will be the case going forward. Well said. Signing Lee does not mean no one else will be hurt/ineffective, that's the nature of the game. I'm not sure how the argument that all your eggs in one basket is safer anyway, it seems like a bizarro world belief. As others have said, the idea the Yankees won't just pay $5M more than whatever offer the Crew can come up with seems shortsighted. The Yankees paid CC $3M more per year and 2 more seasons. They can do that with Lee too. The Crew's chance is to find players with loyalty that want to play in MIL. Cliff Lee has never played in MIL and probably has no desire to. Ditto for CLE, KC, and so on. Mark A had a true statement the other day when he discussed how players have negotiated with them, went elsewhere, and then put MIL into their no-trade clause. They had no chance. That's exactly how I feel about Lee. The only way to get a guy like that is to sign and/or develop him, like Yo, and have him want to stay. If you replace Lee's '10 stats with the Crew's worst SP, they prevent about 45 more runs, and by resting the 'pen a bit more, you can probably argue it's 50. Using the rule of 10, that's 5 wins...still nowhere near contention, probably about .500. If used wisely, I gotta think you can improve the club more than 5 wins with $25M.
  23. I'm saying most players fit the Taguchi image, small, little power, reserve types. Saito signed with LA, making the point well, they rarely sign in the Midwest.
  24. Mat should have said it in a more professional manner. Knowing his demeanor and attitude, I think he was basically saying, "RF is easy, I barely have to do anything. 1B I have to remember stuff."A simple, "I'll do whatever it takes to contribute" would have been far better.
  25. DeFelice, Smith, Morlan, Lofgren, and Dillard would all be nice AAA depth, and I'd prefer to keep Salome around to see if his demons are able to be controlled with meds, time, and maturity. Maldonado, Hopper, Wright, and D. Johnson probably complete my top ten, but they are more filler.
