  1. DeFelice, Smith, Morlan, Lofgren, and Dillard would all be nice AAA depth, and I'd prefer to keep Salome around to see if his demons are able to be controlled with meds, time, and maturity. Maldonado, Hopper, Wright, and D. Johnson probably complete my top ten, but they are more filler.
  2. There's a reason ARod has cleared waivers several times and was listed as having the most negative trade value...he's a good player, but no one can afford him. Lee gets injured, and a small market team is sunk, they simply do not have the money to make up for that loss.
  3. But most are not good enough for the majors...So Taguchi for example. They are smaller players with little pop or velocity, while that's a stereotype, it's also true. I have no interest in adding a Japanese middle reliever, for example, the language barrier and cultural stuff makes it tough.
  4. Yo has been a victim of his location and bad luck, a .400+ BAbip. He's at 150 innings, a very low amount. His velocity is fine, and he's striking out tons. He may be having a Manny Parra like problem deciding when to use his curve and change, but overall, good pitchers are not always lights out...Cliff Lee has lost several in a row, or at least the Rangers have when he's started. That high blooper down the LF line was almost Joey Votto's first infield pop-up of the season. Instead, it was a double. Over 5 innings, a couple bad breaks can easily be the difference between 2 runs and 5. Yo should look at this last month as a perfect time to work on his control and change-up. Also, considering the Brewers are -5 UZR/150 as a team this season, the "poor" defense has been vastly overstated. The irony here is, while it's easy to blame the defense, whenever a defense first player like Escobar or Gomez come along, they are criticized. Apparently, good defense is only desired with guys that can hit like Braun. Heh.
  5. Japanese players have little interest in playing for a small Midwestern market. How many are in KC? MIN? CLE? CIN? Every dollar can only be spent once. You might be able to make a point that the Crew should scout minor leaguers in Japan and try and get some of them, though I'm not sure how their system works. But any money spent on Japan on the Yu Darvishs of the world might as well be thrown up in the wind.
  6. And if he gets hurt and misses 1-2 seasons?
  7. If Lucroy was not a C, I'd have doubts. However, as a catcher with a good arm, who has improved to "below average, but passable" on other defense, the bar is pretty low to have a nice career. If he can get up to .330/.400, about a 5-7% improvement, he's well above MLB average for a backstop, which is right about .320/.380. To be honest, if you take out the top 5, the average probably sits right about .300/.365. As a 24 year-old, if he keeps getting better as you'd expect, he is probably the catcher in MIL for his time under team control, which is '16. Catcher is such an offensive black hole, that's why many of us were so excited about Salome's .350/.450 potential, but alas, he must conquer his inner demons before we speak of that again.
  8. The problem is, most any AAA player can be a reserve, without embarrassing himself or the team. What you need though is a guy like Dickerson, or even Inglett...guys who can PH when needed, but who can also step in and play a couple weeks in case of injury and not be a negative. Inglett is very similar to Frank C, who had a long career in the bigs. Dickerson, especially as a CF, has nearly average major league numbers. A guy with the ceiling to be a reserve probably is not much of a reserve, he's more AAA depth. If Hart goes down for a month and you have a guy unable to get on base 30% of the time as his backup, he ain't much of a backup. His MLE is .272/.434, which again, is passable if he's a C or 2B, but not in LF/RF. It's just too many outs. I just don't see him as anything more than what he is now, though you have to keep an eye on him because of his pop. Very few minor leaguers have even 20 HR a year power.
  9. .328/.539 in 3 seasons at AAA does not jump out as anything but a platoon/reserve to me. A K every 3 AB's versus AAA arms does not speak indicate success in the bigs either. Wait 'til he sees 3-2 breaking balls on the corner. Cruz had a .397 OBP in AAA, and a far higher SLG as well. There's no comparison. Katin has power, so he's a breakout candidate, since so few AAA guys do, but he's not young and he plays corner OF. If he was a 2B/3B/CF, I'd say he had a future. As is, I don't see it.
  10. Vertical stripes are slimming. 20 years ago, I was working 60-80 hours a week in Eau Claire. I have little doubt why I never heard about his death. Considering he played blues, I also have little wonderings why I never heard his music.
  11. As I said earlier, I can't believe no one thought of it before now.
  12. Ok...now I feel old.You should feel young. Al is old and also un-hip and I'm sure he would readily and proudly admit that. Yep. And I'm 41.
  13. On Discovery, they'd say this is a sign of ghosts.
  14. It's especially tough to carry a loogy with a 7 man bullpen. Braddock has been babied, Hoffman hasn't pitched more than an inning in years, and so on. Someone has to go multiple innings.
  15. Dillard had "stuff" when he was up in '08, but he has not shown the ability to retire AAA hitters consistently. I'd love to see him succeed, as I thought he'd at least be a cheap middle reliever for a couple years. As of yet though, he simply has not done it.
  16. As I said, do it in AAA. Spring training is a tiny, meaningless sample. So is September. A start or two should not make any difference. TD has decent secondary stats, but his K/9 is low for AAA success to carry over. He pitched all of last year barely striking out anyone. You gotta wonder if he "gets it" at all.
  17. Tim Dillard? He has a 4+ ERA in AAA despite relieving most of the year. He's 26, and his K numbers have been mediocre at best. I don't see him as a SP at all, and probably a longshot to have more than a cup of coffee even in the bullpen. He has a long career to look at, I'm not sure why we need to see him start a couple times in September to get a read on the guy. I see him as a nice guy to have at AAA, and maybe he'll find something. Heck, put together 100-150 quality innings in AAA, not a couple starts.
  18. Never heard of him until today. Was he instrumentals only?
  19. Bush says he knows nothing, and other teams are unaware. Source says it makes "little sense." Guess time will tell.
  20. Teams sometimes do this late to create an extra roster spot, but the lack of confirmation is strange. If true, a trade makes sense.
  21. See, being unhandy pays off once again.
  22. Escobar's a rookie, so he's gonna struggle at times...Weeks did for years, Prince still does on D. He's not going to peak offensively for several years, so I'm not sure why anyone expected him to do well. He might well be a slasher with a plus SLG someday due to his speed, but he's a work in progress. SS's don't hit much anyway, unless you have a Troy T or Jeter. Much like C's, the top 5 ruin the curve for all the rest.
  23. Rivas could start 2 more times and be about 10 innings ahead of last year's total. He and Capuano are most likely to pick up starts in Sept. Rogers is already 50 ahead. He seems like an illogical choice to start...not to mention he rarely goes over 5 IP.
  24. I don't see any minor leaguers on the 40 that deserve to start in September that have a lot of innings left to pitch. Rivas maybe, but if he pitches in the playoffs, probably not. Rogers rarely goes 5. Capuano has pitched well and they do have to know whether to let him go or see if he'll sign cheaply out of loyalty...or because he wants to stay in MIL.
  25. Is my math right and this condo is going to sell for $225Kish? Must be the Chicago market.
