  1. With the Bucks salary cap/payroll situation, they'll stick to one-year deals unless they are picking up a difference maker. With the exceptions available, they'll be able to find a decent PG for a single year, well, hopefully. Ridnour might sign for one year, who knows? The days of reserves signing 3y/$17M deals are all but gone. Google "nba free agents" and you'll find about 150 guys. There are about 10 stars, 20 above average, solid guys; and the rest are role players. All it takes is one.
  2. 16 games is a tiny sample. The irony is, no one would notice if you go 4-12 at home between July 10th and August 13th, but because it happened early, people notice. I'm sure much of the early season struggles were directly related to Hoffman's struggles. This is far from rocket science.
  3. The Bucks will pick up a backup point guard this offseason, in trade or as a FA. Sessions is possible, though unlikely, due to his multi-year deal.
  4. Ivey is a very good defensive player, and when acquired, Skiles went out of his way to say that he may be a good fit for the future if Ridnour did not return. I like him because he can defend both the 1 or the 2, so while he has little to add on offense, he is a guy you can bring in at the end of the half to ensure no one picks up a cheap foul, and to be honest, no deep bench guys have offensive skills, or they would not be deep bench guys. I don't see him as a 2nd string PG, but I could see him as a bottom 5 guy.
  5. I assume Hart would replace Werth in RF. It might be a fit, if the Phillies have guys at or nearly ready to contribute. If healthy, Happ and another near ready guy might be a good match. Of course, if Happ is healthy, the Phillies may not want to deal him for a stopgap.
  6. If he pitches good enough to remain in the rotation, and the rest of the group continues like they have pitched in June, they can easily be a middle of the pack starting 5, which with a top 2-3 offense, is enough to get them back into contention. That's a lot of ifs, but, no one is making trades today anyway. They'll decide where they are on about 7/15 or 7/20 and go from there. If they're within 5 or so, as Mark A said today, they're not even going to think about it, in fact, they might add a piece or two.
  7. Gerut's a decent stopgap or bench guy, and he can play CF. Katin hasn't proven he can do anything except hit AAA arms in his 2nd and 3rd years at that level. Gerut is not a star, but he is what he is. No one knows what level Katin will peak at, but he's unlikely to ever have even a Gerut-like career.
  8. Reynolds had a 913 OPS in AA as a 22/23 year-old. Katin had a 800 OPS in AA as a 23/24 year-old. There is no comparison. His MLE's speak for themselves.
  9. I think it might help your overall health, heart and joints, but caffeine and chromium will help with some minor weight loss. Cinnamon is also a natural appetite suppressant.
  10. Every team needs a go to guy. When the clock's running down, I hope they're selfish enough to realize they need to shoot the ball.
  11. I think the house advantage in blackjack is less than 1% if played perfectly...however, if you put all your money on one hand, you lose the double down advantage. Poker depends on how many folks are in the hand, can't help you there.
  12. I've read several times many teams would prefer a couple 2nd round picks to a mid-late 1st round pick, as the draft is deep, and 2nd round picks do not get guaranteed deals. They rarely do them, however, because the fan base would not get it.
  13. Alou has said he would not have caught the ball, and many others, including myself, always thought he would not have been close. Since it did not fit the narrative, it was ignored. And, pitching injuries are caused by throwing the ball in an unnatural motion thousands of times. Softball pitchers rarely get injured. As for which pro athletes are gay, I'm sure about the same % as is elsewhere, which is anywhere from 2-10%, depending on which survey you believe. I'm shocked no active player has come out, as it would barely make the press after the first one or two...much like minority coaches/managers. I never knew SEA's manager was a native American, for example.
  14. Strasburg would be a nice fit as our #3 SP, you gotta give him that.
  15. His major league equivalent in his AAA career is .273/.434, which obviously will not cut it as a corner OF. His ceiling remains very low, maybe as a platoon guy at best.
  16. In 7 seasons in AA, Jones averaged 5.7 K's per 9 innings. He was the definition of roster filler. He's only had a job for years based on the size of his signing bonus, as the Crew hoped to get something out of money invested.
  17. Edmonds has very limited value, as he can not play every day. He could end up helping if they get in the race. It'll play out in a month or so.
  18. There's some strange math going on, as they always go by 18-49 ratings, as Jay is popular with older folks. I realize the advertisers crave the 18-49 crowd, but to ignore 50+ crowd is rare. The comparison is also between Conan's Xth week and Jay's...never mind we're talking at the start of the Fall season versus early Summer. The real race is Jay vs. Dave, with Nightline thrown in. When Dave starts beating Jay regularly, as he did with Conan, that's when they'll be worried.
  19. Guys play with minor injuries all the time...almost every player by this time of year has something wrong with them. Jenkins played a month with a broken bone in his back, that's what they do at the top levels. Unless you can make it worse, they play.
  20. He was always said to put in extra work, but lots of his errors were on routine plays, which make him look young or lazy. He's far from a wily vet, but he's not all that young anymore. He can't even blame cultural issues like a Latino player might have. Right now, Gamel is probably either the 1B or RF in '11, as it is very unlikely Hart and Fielder return in their walk years or are both extended. Until something changes, there are a lot of guys who wish they had that easy of a journey to the bigs.
  21. The numbers seem to indicate Cameron hit pretty well regardless of situation.
  22. The truth often doesn't fit the narrative...that's why all recollections are pointless without statistical backing.
  23. I think many salvage yards have a flat $15-20 price on used tires. Some even have tread!
  24. Anytime you start looking at splits of under 150 AB's, you're going to have plenty of small sample goofiness.
  25. Alexander may well have success in the future...many swore Joel Pryzbilla was flat out terrible, and he turned into a decent center, and a defensive stud. That's the problem with the NBA, guys are labeled phenoms at 19 and busts at 22...when they have years until they peak.
