  1. She's sailing in an area of the world where it took others 40 hours to reach her. Pirates, storms, a simple appendix can all kill her easily. I agree her folks are an embarrassment, as they should know better. It's sad these thrill seekers get media attention and inspire others to an early grave.
  2. I'd be thankful I did not get it doubled and slow down in the future.
  3. He sat behind McGehee and Lopez most of his time up there.
  4. His FIP is almost identical to his career mark, so I see no reason he can't put up an ERA in the high 4's or low 5's. He gave up a few rockets, but mostly ground balls through the hole and bloopers that fell.
  5. I believe I've read the Big Ten network charges about $2/month per subscriber in our area, and whatever they can get (10-25 cents) from places like Wyoming, Kansas, and so on. So adding Mizzou would lead to more money. As would getting a NY area team in.
  6. As SD has proven in years past, a low CS% does not seem to hurt much. Besides, much of the problem can be directly traced to the pitchers.
  7. LH power is sought after, it is astounding he fell, especially since he's athletic enough to play OF.
  8. Other than the hiccup of the Ikonura trade, PIT has been doing exactly what they should. When the fans complain, you know you're doing it right. Clueless.
  9. Little doubt he fired Yost, and he added a 4th year to Suppan's offer. Everything else is just guessing.
  10. The only "law" is that people will make any situation artificially fit. Linkletter was 3, so when someone else passes, they have to change it to make it fit. If not Hopper and Rue, it would have been Coleman, some guy who guested on Star Trek once, and a commercial actor. It's almost as fascinating as our strange obsession with round numbers. 2997 hits, cool. 3000...history!
  11. Rivas seems to grade out as a #3/4 SP, so he may well find his niche in the bullpen. Many relievers (Plesac, Weathers, Hawkins to name a few) have long careers after starting in the minors and/or majors.
  12. Smith has a nice off-speed pitch, be it a curve or change. He doesn't throw it for strikes often, which is why he's not as effective as Axford (that and about 5 mph and 5 inches of height, which I assume gives Axford more "bend", or something like that). If I were building an expansion team, I'd happily go with 7 relievers just like Smith and see what happened.
  13. 3 HR's in 19 IP is very high too.
  14. He needs a team to ask Doug about him, as Doug would never keep a minor league veteran in AAA if he could be accruing major league time with another club. He showed what he had last year, two decent major league pitches, and the ability to work often. He's a decent option as a middle reliever, but his ceiling is limited. He's also vertically challenged, so scouts will have to be impressed with his stuff, as they won't be by his build.
  15. BP shows 716 OPS in the NL, 677 AL thus far in '10. LY was 721 in both leagues.
  16. I was just using SS average for the majors yesterday, and I thought it was 695. 700 is nice round number I like to use for the defensive minded spots (C, SS).
  17. There seems to be a lack of understanding of how bad the average SS is offensively, they average a sub 700 OPS. Alcides is average at 23 and has a world of potential, with his triples and bat speed. Errors are a horrible measure of Brewers, as they play half their games at MP where the base hits are errors nightly. His range is otherwordly, but he's been inconsistent, exactly what you would expect from a 23 year-old rookie.
  18. Alcides is above average offensively for a SS, and has been inconsistent defensively, and is just 23. I wish we had more guys suck at an above average level..
  19. His numbers are good enough to be aggressive with him. They'll watch his innings, but if he dominates, they'll challenge him.
  20. They call E's like mad in the low minors, not to mention the crappy fields and lighting. Everyone has a ton of errors in A ball.
  21. Maybe it's the "restricted list" I was thinking of.
  22. Very minor issues thus far. They had 14 pitchers once for a few days when Sheets had to miss a start. These things happen when you have the big picture in mind, options, 40 man spots, and so on. They weren't in any trouble late in '08, they had 37 guys up.
  23. I'm not sure why you'd try a double steal with only one out, as there's a couple dozen ways to score that runner from 3B. And why no suggestion of a double steal with Gomez up...because he got a hit, right? A trick play with Braun hitting? I think I know why. Results based second guessing doesn't really stand up to much scrutiny.
  24. I assume Salome gets paid on the DL and not on the inactive list. If that's all, just a paperwork move.
  25. Vargas may be tradeable, but not for anything but roster filler. This is a good topic though, as Riske will be activated if he stays healthy and keeps getting outs, and Loe/Capuano will have to have a decision made on them soon. Loe could just swap places with Estrada, as Marco can go up and down as often as they wish. Maybe I'm incorrect, but I think a dozen teams would bid for Parra if he were DFA'd. LHP's that hit 95 are highly sought after, especially those who have had past success.
