  1. If Gamel outplays McGehee in the tiny sample that is spring training, he'll be told to go down to AAA and keep it up, unlike this year, where he struggled the second half. Gamel had a decent AAA season, but he needs to dominate at that level. As I have said before, Casey put up better numbers in the bigs than Mat did in AAA. As long as that is the case, the argument is moot. Personally, I hope Mat does just that, because "too much talent" is a problem I'd love to have.
  2. It is funny many only want a "proven" young SP, yet would never dream of trading Yo. Other teams won't trade their version of Yo either.
  3. Other than Lackey, Looper is probably close to as good as any SP, if he decides to come back, and for far less than $10M. Plus, the FA has to want to pitch in MIL.
  4. Gerut or Rick Ankiel would be my choices if Cameron does not return cheaply. I liked Gerut when others were unhappy about a couple dozen AB's.
  5. I proposed Perkins and Swarzak for Hardy, and while we might need to add something, Seth at Seth Speaks said he'd do that, as he sees Hardy's down year as a fluke, and sees him adding several wins to the Twins weak SS situation. He also told me they see Swarzak as a #3 guy in the future, while I had him as more of a bottom of the rotation guy. As for the original, Young is still young, and while weak defensively, has hit near a league average level. I'd look into his past in TB...if he has desire and such, he might be a buy low candidate. If he's happy where he is, and complains, I have no interest.
  6. 6 years of Gamel is worth a lot more than an average catcher. If they trade Gamel, they better get a near ready arm for the rotation.
  7. Weeks will have little value until he proves himself healthy. He is injury prone, but he also produces when healthy, much like JD Drew. Those guys have plenty of worth.
  8. Of course, not many teams are going to be looking to trade an ace, especially a young one, especially for JJ. A young pitcher with some ceiling, who has had some success, is probably all you can hope for. Perkins fits that mold, though Doug has shown himself to like velocity, and Perkins is far from a hard thrower.
  9. The Twins ERA is only 0.13 above AL average, so they are from poor in that department. And while I think Hardy is worth than Perkins, I'd be giddy to get him. He's not an ace, but he is a solid pitcher who would be under team control for quite a while.
  10. I think you both are severely undervaluing Vazquez. His numbers are outstanding, and for a pitcher in his 30's is signed to a 1 year deal, it increases his value, because many teams want no part of a vet signed for several years. Javier may well be the best pitcher to change teams this offseason...I think he'll go for a package closer to what PHIL gave for Lee than just Casey. Maybe not 4 prospects, but maybe 2-3 solid players/prospects. Also, trading 5 years of McGehee for 1 year is far from Doug's MO. Trading pre-arby guys is not what he does, in fact, the opposite is true, he's always looking for pre-arby guys in trade, Overbay, Bush, Capuano, Butler, and so on. Unless it's a July trade, of course.
  11. Hardy for Perkins is something I talked about weeks ao, as both are coming off down years, and both have service time issues. There would need to be some fine tuning. I don't see the Twins moving a top SP, or a top prospect.
  12. I admire the capitalist thinking, as the NFL cannot trademark the color green and a pair of numbers.
  13. He's only a year away from free agency, I doubt if that makes him a Doug target.
  14. I like Gerut and Ankiel if Cameron wants more than a 1y/$5M deal, as both will be cheap and both will be near league average (though both would require a platoon partner). Nothing against Byrd, but he's be 32, has road splits of .320/.400, and hardly ever walks. He seems more like a 4th OF outside of Arlington, and I think he'll be paid far more than he's worth.
  15. What Briggs said. In addition, I doubt Ryan has the desire to learn how to play CF at a leaue average level, as he obviously hits aplenty to play LF/RF. He's plenty fast enough, and would probably not be that bad after the inevitable learning curve. I don't see it happening. RF is possible, as he said he felt it was easier, and he has the arm for it, shoulder injury aside.
  16. If Lawrie played RF, '11 might be more realistic. As long as he's playing 2B, it will be very hard for him to be up before '12.
  17. Our old one was on there, and someone picked it up in a day.
  18. Very low ceiling, 4.50 ERA in AAA. At best, he's minor league FA material, not Rule 5. RHP's that can't hit 80 are either knuckleballers or in the minors.
  19. He can't hit, but supposedly, they've spoken very kindly of Izturis, and even his injury replacement, Andino. Makes sense, but I don't see BAL in line.
  20. What do they do with the ones everyone wants, like Escobar/Gamel/Salome? Sell them in house, I assume?
  21. An alternate might be Doug sans hair on upper lip.
  22. There's 5-6M reasons to trade Hardy. Sure, you can pay everyone that, but eventually, you run out of cash and have no money to improve the staff.
  23. He's never going to be a true ace throwing as many 5 and 6 inning starts as he has. He and Parra both are deathly afraid of strike one, followed by strike two.
  24. I do not look at Matt Diaz and Ryan Church and see impressive corner OF production. Average maybe, but not much more. ATL is expected to trade pitching for offense this offseason. With McCann, Jones, and McLouth set, 1B is obvious, but other than that, LF/RF would appear next.
  25. Jack Z said Wilson was "the guy" when they traded for him. Not sure if he was truthful, but that is what he said.
