  1. If Ben has to sign a one year deal for $1-2M, the Brewers may well end up with him. They will sign at least one of that type.
  2. Hoffman won't need much more to return, and he's been outstanding. Could he falter? Absolutely, any P can, and Trevor is older than me. But, he's been as good as any closer, and he'll only make a bit over 50-60% of the highest paid.

  5. I read the article twice now, and still cannot comprehend why he didn't pay the $20K...they knew they needed the coverage, and still did not take it, hoping Sal would spend a few days in the bigs. It's like calling with a gutshot straight draw...
  6. OBP for a #8 hitter is vital...it helps get the pitcher "out of the way", so the top of the order can lead off, rather than have the near automatic out of the SP up first next inning. Simply put, there are very few C's that will be available who "do not get out" at a level equal to Kendall, never mind play defense. I like Gregg Zaun, and would take a flyer on Navarro, who was awful this year, but is still young and has produced in the past. Maybe they can work a decent C into a package involving a SP and JJ, but when the smoke clears, Kendall may be back at a cheaper rate.
  7. Link does not work.
  8. I see Weeks and Hart each getting $2M more, and that's conservative. If you let others go, you have to replace them as well. Guys like Escobar and McGehee will help, but they will alos be paying Hall and Riske for nothing.
  9. Fielder alone will get a huge raise, as will several arby eligible players like Weeks, Hart, Bush, and so on...which will take much of the proposed Cameron money, not to mention replacing Mike.
  10. I'd offer it to Mauer before Prince, because if Mauer injures a knee, he can DH, and that's not an option for Prince, with the Crew at least. The years are far more of a concern that the per year money.
  11. I'm sure he's spent his signing bonus on supporting drug using friends and members of his entourage. His trade value is very minimal, as one more test and he's done, so no one is giving up more than a middling prospect. As I've said many times, he'll get every chance because of the money invested in him, but it's hard to believe someone that stupid could ever be intelligent enough to get major league hitters out.
  12. We put about $1500 a month on the card, groceries, utilities, darn near everything except the mortgage. $18K a year, at 1% is $180, but since it's only a month of float, I would assume it's 1/12th, or $15. I sure would have thought it was more than that.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. I'm not sure why some are paying credit card bills before they are due, or the same day you buy something. That "float", the 45-60 day delay in paying a bill, can make you some serious interest over the course of all your bills all year. It only works if you have a zero balance, but it seems like most of them do.
  14. He's a long shot, he throws 80 and does not K a lot of batters. RHP's that are not knuckleballers...I can't think of a single one in the majors. That's why Quisenberry was so heralded (and maybe Tekulve)...very few ever make it, never mind have long careers.
  15. My wife and I use a credit card for everything, but, knock on wood, we pay it off at the end of the month. That's a perfect world, and we never pay for a hotel room, as we get points as well. But when in debt, it's easier to pay cash....otherwisw, your debt and current bills get combined.
  16. The best way to avoid debt is to stay single and not have kids. For those whose ship has sailed, cut up your credit cards except an emergency one. If your Landmark is tax deductible (home equity), certainly move debt to that, as it's tax deductible. If you are a "small" amount in debt, $5-10K, a PT job, one night a week and one day on the weekend, can easily raise your income $4K a year or more even at $7 an hour, and for many of us, the idea of a low responsibility position is a joy. Minor changes in your spending (joining Netflix rather than a movie every week, for example) can save you $80 a month. I would sit down one day and write down all your debts, and make a goal to pay them down, and then revisit that same sheet of paper every 3 months (you can use the change of seasons if you wish). If you are making progress, you will be pumped up and want to continue. If not, you'll have to make changes. Another thing is, you might not be as bad off as you think...many folks add stuff up in their head and think they must be $50K in the red, but when you write it down, you're $35K...it's like you found $15K in the sofa. Or, you could start a blog, and in 6 years or so, it'll be bringing in some ad money.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Pie might be available, as he is blocked by 3 good young OF's.
  18. As for the available catchers, the only one I see that looks to out OBP Kendall is Zaun, who I've liked for a long time. Jason will only be back on a 1y/$3M or so deal, and to be honest, he looks as good to me as anyone other than Gregg. Schneider is coming off a bad year, and might be a good "buy low" opportunity. As pointed out, there aren't many guys who can hit and catch. If TB does not want him back, I'd trade for him, as he has an option for $2M next year. He'll be 39, so he won't be able to handle more than 100 games or so, but I hope Salome gets some time.
  19. Those minor league numbers are always fictional...the scorers have no clue. Corporan had 5 E's and 10 PB's in 68 games, and he is supposedly a very good defensive catcher. Either every catcher magically gets better when they get to the big leagues, or the scoring is goofy. I have no doubt it is the latter. As I've said, I saw an error called on Mike Garciaparra in Appleton that was as ridiculous as anything, a diving stop and throw to 1B, runner looked to beat it anyway, but throw was wide. When the error was announced, the fans around me all burst out laughing, and one said, "That's why he's got 40some errors".
  20. I assume that is her, and wow, that guy is truly insane. "Heartwarming", heh.
  21. Pawn shops, coin dealers, and collectibles shows.
  22. Ben, there were not 3 seats together in the 4th level last week.
  23. That is hiher than I would have thought. It must have been '07 when they drew 28K on Easter vs. the Cubs. 2-3 years ago, we went to Turn Back The Clock weekend and they had about 25K there on Sunday.
  24. They do not come close to selling out Sunday games in April or May with no promotion. Ironically, I'd rather have the Melvin bobble than almost any other. I think this might be a casual versus non-casual thing.
  25. RH CF's are a dime a dozen, so finding a platoon partner for Gerut (or Ankiel) is easy...you need a reserve OF who bats RH anyway. Kapler, Reed Johnson, Hairston...even Austin Kearns used to play CF, not sure if he would still be agile enough.
