  1. He's 26, right? He's likely at his peak, and he was far from dominant in AAA (3.50 ERA in relief, never facing the same guy twice). I see him as low ceiling, just like Dillard, and most other AAA arms. That's why I was hoping Butler was the guy, as he looks to have far more potential.
  2. Needless to say, with a kid who looks rather low ceiling, and who started the year in A ball, his first couple appearances should probably come in lopsided affairs. Today late would have been nice, but Smith needed work too.
  3. No one wants to even discuss they've barely averaged a .500 record the past 3 years. Duncan is a factor, and their huge fan base, leftover from the days of KMOX, means they have huge crowds and good TV money, compared to their market size. That said, other than having the good fortune of making the playoffs once only winning 83, they haven't exactly won a ton of titles (is it 1 or 2 in 25 years?). One minor advantage they have is how hot is in in SL...it hits 110-120 on the field often, and teams wilt under that if you only do it a couple times a year. Of course, they will argue it wears them out having to play in that heat 30 times a season. Back when they had turf there, players would come in and stand in ice water, as their feet would be suffering minor burns during a long inning. So, other than minor advantages in money, they seem like another team to me. Considering the money they gave Lohse, they pay aplenty for mediocre pitchers too.
  4. JJ will get a minimum of of $10M for 2 years, and Escobar will be around for 6 seasons after this year, 3-4 of which will be extraordinarily cheap. This is as easy of a call as Betty over Veronica...and I'm a contrarian.
  5. Sure is sad they don't speak. Hopefully, Prince will forgive and forget.
  6. Macha has been calling more hit and runs lately, with little success. I promise you if they had Figgins and Ellsbury in the 1/2 spots, they'd be happy to run. They don't, so they don't. Escobar will probably run a lot in the future, as long as he can make it 70% of the time. He runs mighty fast, and should get better as he learns more about pitchers.
  7. I can't see them going past the '82 team, lots of fans don't know who they are. At the last game we attended, fans around me insisted Yount played CF in '82, Thomas went to RF, and spent much of the evening wondering who played SS (the consensus was Ernie Riles...really).
  8. They just said on TV a few days ago the players have the green light, and have all year. They have just been taught not to run much. You know they have the green light, as Braun runs in odd situations all the time.
  9. I think a Prince on the plate with a bunch of tiny players on their backs would be a fine idea.
  10. Molitor DH'd after he left MIL. It's easy staying healthy batting 4 times a game.
  11. I'd say Yo and Coffey, a classic guy (Cecil Cooper ever had one?). If they have an everyday CF, rather than a platoon, they'd be likely as well. Bush is not a bad bet either. Heck, Stetter maybe too, as one of the main criteria is that you won't be traded.
  12. Players never say they're injured, or they might lose playing time. Lopez, McGehee, Cameron, and so on have all been getting treatment every day and the first two have looked in pain all the time. The trainers report every thing they do on a daily basis, because they are employed by the team, and like having jobs. Players may consider them minor, but you gotta wonder how much they are affecting them, especially the not so young guys like Cameron. This is a part of the game that has carried over from the days of greenies...just pop some drugs and you can play for 3 hours. Even Joe Morgan, as old school as they come, will say guys need to stop playing at 70%, as they hurt the team, even if they are far better than their replacement. In Cameron's case, you gotta wonder if he made the mistake of admitting his hammy cramped or tightened up as he went to catch that knuckling liner...he looked to play it awkwardly, and being in pain would be a reason why one would do that.
  13. Kendall is a defensive whiz and gets on about 35% of the time...I can't see him not starting somewhere next year.
  14. Ramblings and Drudge both look identical to today. That's either a testament to consistency, or nonexistent computer skills.
  15. I would assume the quality is higher when they make 1000 rather than 45K.
  16. A wasted season for both Green and Cain. I assume both will repeat AA, as neither has proved a thing.
  17. The Brewers will not pay Lopez $5-6M to sit on the bench, if he accepts arby, he'll be starting.
  18. There's no room on the 40 for Heether or anyone else, barring a move. I really don't see what effect a couple dozen AB's in September can have anyway. Doug is too smart to worry about that.
  19. Small market teams rarely trade cheap, effective players. With Gamel at best having a bit of a down year, I see McGehee back in the 3B mix for '10. He's probably best suited for a backup role, but won't embarrass you as a starter.
  20. TOR would sure seem to want near major league ready pitching for Halladay, and the Crew has none. As it did at the deadline, that alone makes a deal unlikely, never mind he only has one year left on his contract now.
  21. I probably have Gindl #5 in the Brewers' system. For his age, he's done wonderfully, and is moving up nicely.
  22. I don't care for cherries regardless of species.
  23. Looper has been the 2nd best SP, and he likely projects at about a 4.50ish ERA next year. For $6M, he's a bargain. There's so few SP's on the market, he might well get far more, especially for just a single year. No one-year contract is going to hamstring a team, so $8-10M is not at all out of the question...worst case scenario, he's easily tradeable at $6M. I see the option picked up as well.
  24. I only remember one E on Alcides, and it was when the throw was bad from the P, and he could not squeeze it.
  25. MA will be even more aggressive selling tickets, especially in April and May. I seem to recall setting the over/under at 2.95M for this year, 3M again is quite a feat. I'd probably guess 2.65M if I had to right now. This era of winning has "trained" many people to buy early and to buy season tiks (or partials).
