  1. I'm puzzled, Chavez throws a legit 95, and Iwamura is only signed for one more year. I thought they would non-tender him and then resign him, but he is already signed, and now there's no way they'll decline the option after giving up a velocity hound like that. PIT has done a fine job of ignoring the casuals worrying that 65th win, but I don't see why they need to bump Delwyn Young (or Andy LaRoche) off 2B.
  2. 15 years ago, on flights to and from Mpls/Chicago, the attendants would push the cart up front when the plane was still at a 45 degree angle. Also, if you want liquor on a plane, just dig around in your pockets a while trying to come up with $3, or whatever those mini bottles are. I saw them tell a dozen people to never mind if they dug for more than a few seconds.
  3. This seems to go against PIT's rebuilding, unless they hope to sign him for less and then deal him.
  4. If he's batting 7th or 8th, he'll run a lot. If he ever gets up to #1/2, he'll be given the stop sign a lot.
  5. Link has been down all weekend, I bet they didn't mean to make it public yet. When a new one is found, let us know.
  6. The intros were of infinite length, and the Army guy got a bigger hand than any player. Awkward, and some of the people added far too much superficial crap. It was also odd that the players almost had to get on their knees to "slap five" with the kids.
  7. Sessions had many games over the years as good or better than we've seen from Jennings. He's been very good for a rookie, but is very slight and looks like he'll have a difficult time staying healthy. Ersan looked solid both games, and as expected, Warrick did too. Redd's injury is bothersome, and Bogut looks to be unhealthy...looks uncomfortable and laying on the floor stretching while on the bench. They have the potential to be a 6/7/8 seed, but they could easily suffer some injuries and win 25 games. One thing I thought of tonight was Ridnour must be as good as any backup point guard in the league. If Jennings stays on the court, you'd think several teams would want Luke at the deadline.
  8. Hill, like many former MLB pitchers, are well worth a minor league deal with an opt-out if he's not on the 40 by 6/1. Since nearly every team would be happy to give him a minor league contract, some one might end up giving him six figures for 2 months.
  9. I wish that guy would stop giving Brewers' blogs a bad name. At this point, you might as well just be reading fiction.
  10. I'd like Gary Jr. for $2M per, but no way would I add money to take him. Matthews is a good defender who had two very good offensive seasons, and many other ok ones. He's not much below average offensively for a CF, and the move to the NL is likely to do him good. He's far from a star, but for $2M, you could do far worse.
  11. Note that tiny difference between Mike and Jody...that's slightly smaller than I would say, but still minimal for the money.
  12. Dominos seems to have store managers have a first chance at buying franchises. I worked for guys who worked for Dominos, were turned down, and they bought another company's franchise.
  13. They could win 20, they could win 40. The falloff from Bogut to those other guys who would have to fill those 35 minutes is huge.
  14. It is unique how Dominos does this, using this concept. Hopefully, he will be successful, even though he is now despised by many as "part of the problem". Make it or not, it takes a lot of guts to do it, especially if he has a family.
  15. I would hesitate to call it an addiction, as it minimizes those folks who are going through real addictions, withdrawal, and so on. That said, your body gets used to caffeine, just like it does nicotine and carbs. Those who ever tried Atkins know the first few days is rough as well. Change is difficult, as is developing good habits.
  16. Much like win shares, it'll die out quick. Nothing is dumber than saying Kapler was worth $5.2M, and it makes the whole site look stupid.
  17. I think HOU claimed him to open a dialogue to sign a minor league deal. He's not a bad 25th man at all, due to his versatility and speed, but his production does not begin to deserve a 40 man spot all winter.
  18. If you watch the replay, the 2B missed that throw by a couple inches.
  19. Haven't went out sounds almost right, but gone sounds better. I never would have caught that, thanks.
  20. I can't believe they pay insurance for minimum salary guys like Yo.
  21. Is grad level credits the same as regular? 6 credits every 5 years is only two 3 credit classes, you can easily knock that out in one summer, and have the other four off.
  22. Casey performed better against major league pitching than Gamel did against AAA guys. The debate is nonexistent. Mat needs to prove himself again, and when he does, he'll have a spot. Gamel should be able to put up a .400/.500 AAA line before even thinking about returning. The Brewers do not have "open battles" in spring training for starting spots, nor should they. It's a tiny sample, and Doug and the braintrust know it. Even for the bench spots, only Casey did anything after having a decent 50 PA's against inferior competition...Nelson and Duffy both reverted back to form and were soon in AAA. It's also a bit misleading he did not play much in his 2 months up. He had 131 PA's, about a 400 PA pace, which is not a small amount at all...as pointed out, Casey barely played his first couple months, and still contributed when he got the chance. Excuses are for guys who are banged up and at half-speed, not for a guy "only" playing 4 days a week. Hit more, play more. As good a season as Craig and Casey had, they earned their playing time.
  23. He is locked up through '13 right now, and they have no fears if he blows out his arm (or knee, or whatever). Unless he's willing to give a huge discount, I have no interest. Pitchers get hurt so commonly, going year-to-year is almost always preferable. I wouldn't think of more than 3 years with any pitcher, as a standard . The risk/reward scenario just does not work >3 seasons.
  24. Vargas should be gray. As I have said often, whether Hall's money counts or not is as big as any decision that will be made. If they sign Cameron for $10M and would keep Hardy, they'd be close to $90M with just arby increases. That's why I don't see Mike returning, and why JJ will certainly be gone. Regardless of your budget, tough decisions always have to be made, unless you're the Yankees. It's also why I don't see Casey or Mat being dealt...the bat will play, they just don't know where that will be yet. Once Mat finds his swing again, they'll find a spot.
