  1. 1973 team went 11-1 in June against the A’s, Angels, Twins and White Sox. All on the road. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/1973-schedule-scores.shtml
  2. You’re saying you’d rather that the Brewers play Atlanta? I don’t think it’s clear at all. What if the NLDS was against wild card winner Cincinnati? What if MKE sweeps the Reds, while ATL and SF play a full series, allowing the Brewers to set up and rest their rotation? So many variables. Just two days ago there was talk about the Reds easy schedule. Things change in the blink of an eye, or a swing of a bat. Very little is clear or simple. Pretty exciting, though.
  3. How many games can the Reds win if they win all their remaining games? Currently 65-56, so 106 is the most they can win. How many do the Brewers need to win to get from their current 73 to 107? 34. That's how I do magic number. Seems a lot easier.
  4. This made me laugh.
  5. I preferred his four-pitch first inning last week.
  6. That's frankly a bit interesting I'll say of her to mention spider tack at all, how is that remotely relevant to the far more serious allegations he's facing? Like, if all else fails you at least want him getting trouble from MLB for cheating? I would say this hurts her credibility quite a bit if the evidence that's been made public wasn't so overwhelming and disgusting. Regarding spider tack, I think his deal was he spoke out against the use of sticky stuff for a while and came to the conclusion to do it himself to try and get MLB to actually do something about it to level the playing field. Because an author on ESPN decides to include a line about spider tack from her hours, and I mean hours, of testimony, you conclude it hurts her credibility. Was she asked about Spider tack? You don't know the context. Yet you choose to rationalize on behalf of Bauer about why he would use it. Gross.
  7. Not sure where to ask this question, but how does the shift affect babip? It would seem to make sense that your babip would be lower if teams are shifting effectively for you. That would make a low babip seem less "bad luck", and more "you get what you deserve."
  8. I do contract project manager work. Contracts are typically 6 months to a year. Because of the nature of my work, I am interviewing regularly for my next gig. I rarely turn down an opportunity to talk to someone, unless it's a three-month contract. When I am contacted by recruiters who have short contracts, I avoid those, because my experience shows that the company is either trying to be cheap, or has no idea how big their project actually is. Add in the inevitable delay at onboarding, and it is a stressful situation. Anyway, as a PM, I am brought on early because I often have to turn around and hire others (software analysts, trainers, etc.). It is remarkable how poorly some people interview, and I don't think they are aware of it. Then there is the dynamic of the third-party recruiter. I have come to really dislike these people, because they often don't know what they are talking about, yet they have become the gatekeepers of the job. They hide details of the job ("It's an Eastern US Company") that may help you prepare for your interview, and they have a dollar amount or percentage they are trying to hit, so they may not be representing the hiring company's best offer (That's probably more of an issue in the contract world than the FTE world). Add in their "check all the boxes" approach of finding candidates, and it's a mess. I say all that because I think there are strategies for getting past the gatekeeper to even be submitted for the job. Then, there is a switch to planning for the interview with the company. I make it a habit to read every line of every resume submitted to me. I'm not saying I would never hire anyone with bad grammar or typos on a resume, but I am not NOT saying it either. If someone here wants to pick my brain, I would be willing to help.
  9. Boxberger: 10 pitches Williams: 6 pitches Hader: 12 pitches Nice work. As drama-free as a one-run game could be.
  10. If the Cards had 13 games against the Dodgers or Giants, who have two of the best three records in the NL, we’d be talking about their uphill climb against a tough schedule. Because it’s the Brewers, the other top-three team, it’s different?
  11. romano cleared outright waivers. he declined the assignment with class aaa nashville and is now a free agent. I assume he will be pitching for the Dodgers before the weekend is over. He can join Bickford, Knebel, McKinney and Jimmy Nelson (i know, he's injured).
  12. The Cardinal announcers know who their audience is, and they make these kind of statements all the time. Sports radio as well. I remember them talking about Rick Ankiel making his comeback as an outfielder after he yipped out as a pitcher. Their take was that it was good that he was doing it in St. Louis, because the fan base was sophisticated enough to understand his struggles.
  13. https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2021/08/11/christian-yelichs-huge-extension-hasnt-even-kicked-in-yet-and-he-is-struggling/ I get Yelich is struggling but do we really need so many posts about it in an igt when the team is up 10? There is already a thread for it on the main page. Maybe I am in the minority but the Yelich stinks posts are feeling redundant at this point Amen.
  14. The pace of this game is awful. I keep checking in between work calls and emails, and I find that I've missed maybe four pitches. It's almost two hours in and we are still in the fourth!
