  1. Allowing 4.69 runs per game has been the killer for this team. Lets remember last years team was Miley Chacin Anderson Guerra Suter Peralta Davies and Gio. That's not a list of world beaters. They simply did their job and didn't get rocked. Woodruff Davies Anderson are in place for next year Hader Peralta are locked into the pen. Claudio will be better. Houser will chime in somewhere in that. Remember the offense has improved by .3 runs per game. The pitching has been worse by a FULL RUN. The pitching staff has been a collection of gas cans. That's the issue they need to fix. They've fixed it before on a budget. Devin Williams, Rasmussen, Burnes, Faria, Black could play a part making this pen stronger next year. Avoiding the early season woes of Burnes and Peralta would help this team a lot. Davies 3.56, Woodruff 3.75, Anderson 3.89, Gio 3.48 Hader 2.29, Peralta in the pen 2.52, Houser in the pen 1.47 Albers Guerra and Claudio have put up another 145 IP at a 4.15 ERA and that's not all that damaging. Do you understand HOW BAD everyone else has to be to put up a 4.69 ERA with those numbers going on? 10 guys in the rotation doing plenty well enough and the team allows 4.69 runs a game!?!
  2. Houston missed the playoffs the year after they started their ascent to the WS. Playoffs missed playoffs WS I have been pointing this out since early June. This team is based on stability depth in the pen and rotation. They whipped through 12 options this year and nothing stuck. That's very unlikely to happen again.
  3. it's been reported that black will be optioned by the brewers. a player still needs to be removed from the 40-man, and it likely will be via designating a pitcher for assignment. if the brewers dfa a pitcher on the active roster, they're essentially playing with a 24-man roster tonight. if they dfa an optioned player, that player is off-limits to a minor league affiliate. aaron wilkerson is the scheduled starter tonight for the missions. trey supak and donnie hart are probably safe. jacob barnes or burch smith, probably not as safe. Wish Wilkerson was starting in Oakland tonight. Good luck Lyles.
  4. So we dealt a SS who is in AAA at 24. He isn't producing at the same level as Perez, Spangenberg or Saladino. He projects as a cheap filler depth infielder. For that we got a good reliever and a lottery ticket arm who is on the verge of the majors while still being a lottery ticket. Team added 4 arms. 2 controlled and one of them that we actually can trust in the pen immediately. They gave up nothing that will make an impact. All 4 look like pen arms so Houser might be in the rotation to stay. The get is underwhelming but these aren't bad deals.
  5. Harrison broke out in 2017. He's a multi-tool prospect. It takes these ranking services a while to catch up. The fact is the prospect shine dulled a bit on Grisham over the last few years. He has obviously rebuilt it, but I think he is probably up on the ML team before he makes any sort of Top 100 list. Exactly. They have to cover 30 teams and thousands of prospects. So he's not rated in the top 100. That's fine. But people then use those rankings too often as gospel. What's everyone do when you hear about a trade for someone you don't know? You go to MLBPipeline or whatever site and see where they rank on their prospect lists. It's a tool, it's not the absolute authority. If you can't manage to cover 30 teams farm systems in this age of broadcasting and computers... then you are asking to be replaced. Do you have any idea how big the market is and how much money is there to be had? Sheesh!
  6. I could see a bit of both. Buy some filler rentals with rule 5 eligible guys. Sell a couple expiring blue chips. With the Mets and Reds getting into the pitcher market one of two things is happening. Buyers are lowballing, or the price will spike sky high on pitchers. Chase anyone? I'm hoping to see Wilkerson get a start tomorrow.
  7. If we aren't sure we can extend him we better move him. Like it or not if Moose is gone next year we need to get Shaw going. If I had my choice between the 2... I'd pay Grandal. His bat at the C position is absurd.
  8. Honestly looked like Cain mistimed that one a bit. Might have been uncatchable anyway. Lefty Lefty goes yard. Drats.
  9. I don't worry about him at all. Even when he's wild, he has the stuff to fix his own mess. He's one of 2 guys I trust in this pen.
  10. Saladino has been in since the Braun PH. Since its tied they are saving Aguilar for later. I actually agree. Now watch Arica... he looks quiet tonight.
  11. Hiura Thames Aguilar (to DH) The recently hot Arcia and clutch Gamel. Get some runs.
  12. It wasn't a bad idea... if he crossed at the bottom of the zone.
  13. I'm just glad he challenged him on the full count. A BB wouldn't have been disgusting.
  14. Not easy to get a ball through this infield. Big big hit!
  15. That last hit he definitely got the bat to the launch point earlier. One of my main beefs with him is his late transitioning from his samurai setup and never gets the bat settled in the proper launch point and at the proper launch angle. Just way to much pre swing movement. Right and that last AB was a small leg lift and no movement. It was a contact swing. When he does that he gets hot. Every time and then he goes right back to the hacking pull nonsense.
  16. I'd probably break-even at the worst. 12 W out of 45... yeah that's the gambling I like to see.
  17. Does Arcia's plate approach seem quieter today? If so would explain the contact.
  18. Yeah but what's leverage at this point. They save Hader and they save Peralta to close out wins. That leaves 6 guys who are forced in unless we are already ahead by a small margin. We have a ton of guys who would be fine as the 6th pen arm.
