  1. Someone far deeper onto baseball than I am is going to have to explain this to me. I'm nervous enough about Archer who has put up back to back 4 era seasons. Why is Bauer a target? Never had a sub 4 era season. Hasn't had a season better than Chacins career era. I hear a bunch of guys talk about chacin like he's nothing but a solid vet. Ive heard plenty say things like, hey if we get a few pitchers we can deal Davies. Why is Bauer at 27 better than Davies who he has never outperformed. Does era not matter as long as you strike dudes out? Am I missing a rule where Ks take runs off the board? I get he's a value but we just signed Chacin for 7.5 mil a year who has put up a better era over his career and his last year was better than Bauer has ever done. I dont get why 4era archer is worth the moon, I dont get why this guys worth Santana. Chacin was had for 7.5 mil... this dues in arby for 5.5 to 6.2 mil. 2 mil dollar bargain?
  2. I've heard this from several on this board, and I'd like to know where it comes from. Just because he's small? Because it isn't because he has the same kind of stuff. Hader hits 97 with ease, while Peralta sits at 88-92. Yes, he put up very nice numbers last year, but I just don't understand the hype. To me he's just another in a long line of undersized righties that get hit around once they get up to the upper levels. We'll see if he makes it to Colorado Springs this year. Reports on him talk of a difficult to pick up on release point which makes his fastball jump on top of batters despite its so so velocity. 92 feels like 98. Haders 95 seems to baffle like its 100+.
  3. Well he was considered the Brewers' catcher of the future a year ago at this time, and has a top prospect pedigree. We are very quick around here to write off players we don't like as trash. Maybe Susac never amounts to anything at the MLB level, but to imply he has no talent is wrong. He was considered what? By who? That year he spent as not the backup to posey after he played in the majors showed SF didn't even see him as more than a scrap backup.
  4. I wouldn't be so sure on that yet. I'd probably wait to see other roster moves before making that judgment. The Brewers brass saying they'll try Braun at 1B is a long way away from them moving him their permanently. We are always trying to put the cart before the horse around here. I completely understand. You are absolutely right. I'm still going on record saying if Phillips or Santana is still here when the dust settles its going to take a complete defensive abomination by Braun at 1b or injuries to keep him from 90 starts at 1b this year.
  5. Got a nice long look at Thames/Aguilar, moving Braun. Got a nice long look at phillips, traded brinson opened winter meeting by shopping Santana. Yelich didn't replace Phillips. He's moving Braun... finally.
  6. My post didn't even take into account my earlier posts saying that Phillips is the perfect fit on the field for what Stearns is trying to accomplish, as he'd be a Gold Glove-caliber RF, and at 23 years old is just coming into his own as a hitter. But thanks for being condescending! It's appreciated. Phillips in RF is a win the WS move. Yelich LF Gold Glove, Cain CF near Gold Glove, Phillips in RF possible Gold Glove. 39 games of phillips was worth 138 games of thames last year. Even if he's 265/335 with 20-25 hr the guy will be a monster because of his defense.
  7. Archer salazar anderson davies chacin... salazar gets hurt... Woodruff. Its covered. Nelson hopefully soon enough. Archer Nelson Salazar Anderson playoff rotation could surpise!
  8. Kipnis wasn't bad at all in 2016... other than Ks. He mashes rhp. Kipnis Perez platoon? Kipnis Villar if he can get back to hitting lhp again. Career is better vs lhp, 2017 was terrible, 2016 was fantastic. Don't think we can afford kipnis and a FA though. Double trade?
  9. Sure, it works from our end. But we have absolutely no idea how the Indians value Santana, or what kind of value the Brewers place on Salazar. And if HH's speculation is right, and teams are placing a premium on solid pitching, then it is likely the Brewers would need to add a high-ranking prospect to Santana to acquire Salazar alone, let alone Salazar and Kipnis. Perhaps if they take on all of Kipnis's salary, that prospect wouldn't be as high, but I'm still guessing it would be something like Santana and Peralta/Ortiz for Salazar, or Santana and Diplan for Salazar/Kipnis, with the Brewers taking on most if not all of Kipnis's salary. The cost for solid pitching is otherworldly right now. Ooo ooo option 2. Screw the big 4. Only 1 is worthy of being called big 4 anyway. Kipnis villar bridge to Huira. Archer salazar anderson davies chacin/woodruff No big money pitcher. Cap right around 120 mil. 95+15 kipnis -2 sogard + Salazar 5, + archer 6 - 2 gallardo. Doable?
  10. That's another fun option. Santana ticket for Salazar Kipnis, archer for burnes ray peralta dubon. 2 cheap controlled arms. Money on kipnis instead of arms. Not paying arrieta or cobb or lynn would put many minds at ease. Kipnis health issues can be subsuded a bit by ample villar rest.
  11. Arguably the best team in Brewers history had Yuni B at SS, Casey McGehee at 3rd (until we traded for Hairston), and Mark Kotsay as our 4th OF. I'm not a Villar fan, but also don't want to empty out the farm. Not every single position on the field needs to be a star to contend. Well good, because I dont expect pina arcia or phillips to be stars. That was CC right. If I'm misremembering then it was Grienke. Yeah we don't have that guy either.
  12. Well, if Archer and Darvish or Arietta are acquired, in theory you don't need a lot for the next 2-3 years, barring injury. Archer and Darvish/Arietta are locked in for at least 4 years. Anderson is locked in for 4 years. Nelson is locked in for 3. Davies is locked in for 4. Chacis is locked in for 3. Woodruff for 5. That is a lot of long-term pitching depth. Also, Burnes was drafted in 2016, so saying that a pitcher cannot make a quick rise through the system would be wrong. The Brewers have at least half a dozen recently drafted college arms or trade acquisitions in their early 20s that could theoretically put it together and make the jump. I don't disagree. Burnes could see mke in august. Thats a bit over 2 full seasons. We could absolutely draft a guy in 2018 who could fast track by 2021. I just don't think there are options after burnes ortiz peralta (ponce dealt in my trade ideas) who will. I love kodi, he's still a huge project. Webb lemons murphy perrin owensby etc etc yeah the list is very long. We wouldn't need one for 3 years as long as woodruff is good and we are afforded health. All true. It's going to take a fast and drastic change for anyone in our system to get majors rotation ready in less than 3 years.
  13. 3 addition points to full blown all in... 1) Braun to 1b phillips to RF sets up a gold glove OF. Thames in 138 games was a 1.4 war player. Phillips in 39 games was a 1.4 war player. Thames will still get 80-90 games mashing rhp. Phillips needs to start. 2) Hope Villar reverts. Do you want to go all in and leave holes such as, hope villar reverts? I don't. Whit is damn good. Villar can come off the bench and we can hope he reverts there. Sogard ortiz ray dubon for as much of a sure thing at 2b as you can hope for isn't a bad thing. Cheap 5 years of control. 3) nottingham, feliciano, kj, huira, carmona, erceg, grisham, lutz, stokes... add all the pitchers listed a few posts above. Thats a lot of scratch offs. In another forum a guy brought this up. My take, im conflicted. I'm on one hand frugal as hell, but on the other hand I believe if you aren't winning a title you are wasting your time. 4 year full on. Get a top 4 Archer for Santana Burnes Peralta Gatewood Ponce Aguilar Merrifield for Ray Ortiz Dubon Sogard Pina vogt, braun thames, merrifield villar, arcia, shaw perez, yelich cain phillips broxton Archer cobb (just picked 1) anderson davies chacin/woodruff... nelson Knebel hader albers jeffress logan barnes suter Cain yelich braun/thames shaw merrifield phillips pina arcia F it... why not!
  14. You continue to develop the pitchers you have. Woodruff and Bubba Derby are still around. Ortiz is still very highly thought of. In a couple years, pitchers like Diplan, Supak, Ponce, Pennington, Webb, Zach Brown, Drake Owenby, Jon Perrin and Herrera should be in the upper levels. Not to mention the highly talented guys who have fallen because of injury or other reasons, such as Nate Kirby, Phil Bickford, Taylor Williams, Kodi Medeiros and Adrian Houser. Then there's the young kids like Caden Lemons, Brendan Murphy, Bowden Francis, Jayson Rose, Alec Bettinger and Max Lazar. Basically, you need to hit on 3-4 of those guys to continue to have strong pitching prospects at the minor league level. The pitching cupboard is FAR from bare. You aren't wrong but you have to admit it'd be very very unlikely we promote anyone to the MLB rotation off that list in the next 2-3 years. Williams Houser heck Bickford could hit the pen sooner than later but the kids have a ways to go. Lets say its Santana Burnes Peralta Aguilar Gatewood and Ponce for archer. We push them off phillips. Any chance ray ortiz dubon go to KC for Whit Merrifield? Lots of lotto ticket arms left. Huira Lutz Erceg. 1 starter spot opens in 4 years, as Chacin and Nelson leave after 2 yrs 3yrs respectively. That's for woodruff or hader. 1b opens for shaw after 3 years, 3b opens for erceg. 2b opens when Huira is ready and whit gets his 2 or 3 arby years dealt out. Phillips gets RF. HH said FO is really high on him. Braun splits time in LF and 1b. Teams highly intact for 4 years. 4 years to retool the farm through the draft and int signings? 4 years to develop what we'd have left? If after 4 years its not there, you burn it down and rebuild again. It's kind of Marlin like... but they've got 2 WS. All ALL in?
  15. Basically if we go overpay Darvish and add archer. Darvish 5 Archer 4 Nelson 3 Anderson 4 Davies 4 ................... Chacin 2 Woodruff 6 Knebel 4 Hader 6 Can afford being down nelson with ease. If nelson comes back well rotation is stacked for 3 years.. 4 if Woodruff or Ortiz are good. Only dude we'd EXPECT to graduate in that time to the rotation is Ortiz. The rest are a long way off or too unknown. There are a lot of interesting names but nothing in the vicinity of a given. 2b is still waiting on Huira. OF isn't perfect until Braun is a 1b and we have a new CF or RF. (Assuming phillips and santana are in the deal.) C is up for debate. Do we go after a top 4 arm and Archer and keep going? Double back on Merrifield? RF? We can't spend more than a top arm without arby killing us down the road. Pina 4 Thames braun 3. But there's roughly 22 mil invested there yearly. (Shaw/Erceg hope) 2b is a question (huira hope) Arcia 5 Shaw 4 Yelich 5 Cain 5 RF becomes a question (Lutz hope) Would suck to DESTROY the farm but its fairly set for 4 years... if its not restocked by then you burn it down. Destroy it to a shell of itself with Huira Lutz Erceg Ortiz? Trade Ray dubon grisham and a couple lottery arms? Go big... real big? 4 year hard push window then rebuild?
  16. Honestly I'd be in on santana ortiz ray kodi ponce in a heartbeat. Leave Woodruff Burnes Fperalta Huira Lutz Erceg Phillips and Carmona and I'm good. Hell they can have dubon and grisham too lol.
  17. Brutal brutal ask. Brutal. You said yelich would sting... eh. This yikes. I'm really not crazy about cain in rf and yelich in cf either. I'd rather santana salazar straight up. Take my chances on salazar burnes peralta than archer. So the tb increase was ortiz to burnes I assume?
  18. I know its now getting expensive. But assuming cobb archer and santana sent out via trade. I really want a better 2b in that lineup.
  19. If they get a free agent, it's almost a guarantee that the 2nd arm is going to come via trade. Which is going to be expensive prospect-wise, likely costing at least one of our top young arms, if not multiple. You said a couple days ago you were against doing that for Archer. Are you for or against a trade, because you are kind of "candle in the wind"-ing it right now. I think Archer will cost too much but if you go that deep for Yu or even Arrieta, well you might as well go all the way. There are no safeguards at that point. You are all in.
  20. Probably confused
  21. 3 posts and so darn bold. Example. Last draft season I was adiment that mahomes was the best qb in the draft. Adiment. All sorts of reporters speculating where he would go. I flatly stated top 13 lock. Wasn't their opinion. I stated it as if it were fact. I also said the coaches you need to watch out for are Payton, Areans and if he some how some way can find a path in from the late 1st Reid. Reid must be drooling over him because with Maholmes Reid will tear the league a new tail. Speculation... espn, si, not on it. I had no source. It was speculation. Listening to nfl network stammer over who kc could have possinly moved in for was fun. Kc logo popped up and my phone exploded. I say this to say. Sourced up maybe. Yes everyone can speculate... but even if all he has is speculation... he's put it out there... he's stood by it... he's done it WELL. Everyone can't speculate well. He's PROVEN he's worth reading. I love your post btw. It's what a guy who wants a speculation me too participation ribbon says right before Darvish and Archer find homes in MKE. Keep hating, and keep spouting off. It's fun to watch those guys come up dead wrong and the world has a way of making it so. If they can get Darvish they are more likely to go for the kill and get Archer. Nice take though. :-)
  22. If we are adding 2 arms and 1 is Archer: Santana woodruff ray ortiz dubon is a load... im not adding Burnes Huira Lutz Erceg Phillips or Peralta to anything. I'd rather add more than up it to burnes. He's a starter. There isnt much doubt that he'll at least be a solid starter.
  23. At that price Id rather him than vogt at his price. The 10/2 talk was a hard no. Market is rough on these dudes.
  24. "I fully admit that I’m speculating but at least what HH said provides SOME support to my claim." There's the problem. I'm speculating it could be many different things and trying to prove none. My stance in regards to whats going on in those deals is... I dont know. I don't need to prove anything to speculate. Just prove they are valid speculations. You are trying to prove your speculation true and pretending speculation gives your speculation more weight. It doesn't. Im also saying your speculation isn't valid and if you looked around you'd see that. It doesn't operate that way and I can drown you in "actually possible" speculations but you refuse to leave your stump. I can give you tons of examples in multiple fields, multiple sports and you remain entrenched. I get it. You are convinced something illogical is true. Moving on. Braun is our best hitter... sure. Healthy Braun playing at 2015 levels is our best bat. The 3 other results since the suspension, I'd argue he's not. If you get Braun yes hes the best. If you get this nicked up declining dude... Anyway... hypothetical game. Lets say of highheats last talk, 2 parts are true. Mke wants 2 top arms. Mke is high on phillips. Mke goes in deep. Santana woodruff ortiz ray dubon for archer. Signs arrieta. Chips in lets roll. What's best then? Do you play cain in rf taking him out of his near gold glove level cf position, to play yelich in a negative dwar position instead of his gold glove lf home so you can play braun who is also a begative dwar player in LF? Or do you leave them be in gold glove positions play phillips who could be a gold glove rf candidate and STILL move braun to 1b. Do you value the dwar across the whole OF and good bat of phillips over Thames. If we go in that deep... go get walker and go: Cain yelich braun/thames shaw walker phillips pina arcia. See unless you want to waste a gold glove lf in cf or a near gold glove cf in rf... braun. STILL is the non fit. Before you say RF, looked into it an most feel his arm can not play there. It's likely hed be even worse in rf than santana. Realky wish we had a DH, Santana would plug in there immediately and thames would get appropriate work.
  25. Yup, but they do like having these dudes in their clubhouse.
