  1. I posted this somewhere else but if they do what you want, going up to $125 allows them no flexibility. If there are holes in the roster come July, they are stuck. Is that something you want to see? I don't. We don't know their number. I don't want to be frozen at the max, but we are coming off a few very cheap years. We just added what we'd likely have given Yu per year on Yelich and Cain. Do you think they sign Yu and stop? Wouldn't make any sense to. Just adding Yu leaves the offense considerably short. More pospects wpuld hurt. Ray Burnes Ortiz are next in the que. Santana would hurt. More spendings going to hurt. Its going to hurt and the teams still short a SP at minimum. Limp the pen with williams houser fperalta as options... ok Limp 2b with Villar Sogard Perez... ok Limp 5 sp with Suter or Gallardo... not good.
  2. 6 man rotation out of the question? 7 mans not out of the question with 1 add Nelson and Burnes. Nelson cobb anderson davies woodruff burnes chacin People who want 2 baffle me. We add 1 and Nelson comes back well we possibly watch as Woodruff burnes and ortiz start in CS waiting for chacin to move along. The part of this offseason that has me most excited is tgat we haven't burned a single elite arm. Yamamoto Ponce Murphy Lemons Kodi Bickford level sure 1. Ortiz woodruff burnes peralta all hanging tough. It almost feels as if our GM is trying to be TB or something. Draft bats, trade bats... collect arms, keep arms. Positive results or not I like it!
  3. Yes but how much? 18 mil for 110? Or 33 mil for 125? Going up to 125 mil is game on!
  4. Keep santana 1 sp fa Walker Cut Gallardo now and sign an upside bp arm like Oh 1 year. Williams houser Ramirez all to CS... leverage innings. Is that asking too much? We can even trade Villar and Broxton away for lottery tickets.
  5. FIXED!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! I hope our cap number is 125 mil this year. Signing a pitcher, a 2b and a solid pen piece would look so nice. Until they deal Santana (would they then add another bat?) I'm going to stick with the pipedream buzz I've got going. Cain Yelich Santana Shaw Braun/thames Walker Pina Arcia P Santana yelich rest 10, cain 15. Cain 10 at rf, yelich 25 at cf, braun 35 at LF Thames only bats vs rhp. Rest santana cain and braun vs rhp. Aguilar stays as Braun insurance and PH #1... literally ph every game. 10 starts plus DH if all goes well. Broxton Sogard gone. Villar Perez play super utility if (2b SS 3b). Phillips in CS. If santana has the feared regression swap 3 and 5. Boom!
  6. If our number is 125 mil instead of 110: 33 mil.... Puts cobb walker oh within reach and we keep a filthy offense and lose nothing else from the farm. Sogard Broxton Gallardo can be cut or flipped for a bag o balls.
  7. Did we have enough talent to force it? Are there interviews in october the previous year where he said he'd make the change?
  8. That's not necessarily true, especially after the moves we just made. If hes losing ab vs rhp its to braun santana cain yelich. Assuming Santana stays. Worse crimes have been committed. Resting cain santana braun vs rhp gets thames on the field. Yelich's splits arent massive enough to require him to hit all rhp either.
  9. What is it again... 1 war = 8 mil? So 10 war. If he has 2 more years like last he's damn close already. Averaged about 4.5 a year so far.
  10. Good!!! good!!!! And yes, thames does platoon braun at 1b. Thames only gets days vs rhp. Braun gets every day he can go where he isn't in LF. Thames is the platoon. Braun plays. In the rare rest days for yelich cain santana... slide to the right! I said after cain... santana gone by midnight. The more I looked at the pieces the more I thought, no we can't move santana. Braun needs to go to 1b.
  11. Well you'd certainly have to at this point. Burnes Ortiz Ray Ponce wouldn't stun me. For people thinking cap. 16 mil straight on Cain has us at 92 mil. Most look to 110 as our cap.
  12. I love Mavrick but with Braun our 3 heavy start OF and Perez there really isnt much regular use for him unless someone gets hurt. If we keep all 4 of, even if braun moves to 1b... phillips is in CS. Keep Aguilar as a bench bat.
  13. 100% agree. I don't think thames phillips pulls any pitching upgrade... just depth. Moving those 2 gets you in solid 2b territory, not arm. If im wrong I'll be thrilled. We really have about 18 mil open. Adding 1 solid pen arm, a starter upgrade and a 2b will not come prospect cheap for that amount.
  14. Yeah 18 to 23 mil is hard without adding a guy like salazar or archer. Cobb Oh leaves 2b as is Duffy Harrison or Walker pushes it over leaves pen as is. Salazar harrison or walker Oh should just fit under 115. Huira Lutz really need to stay. Leaves big tickets of ortiz burnes and ray. Eesh.
  15. Yeah don't even care what the dodgers were offering. I'm sure we were offered too much and we missed a chance. Every time I think through the roster for logical moves I always end up saying... damn braun.
  16. Braun needs to go to 1b and get it over with already.
  17. Yelich cain missed 7 games last year each. Santana missed 8. If they stay healthy there's not enough ab to justify having phillips in the majors. There's not enough for Braun unless he splits 1b.
  18. Current GG LF is not the guy I'm moving to 1st.
  19. We keep the 4 braun has to play 1b. There's as little as 25 games for him in LF. Thames doesn't have to go. Pina vogt, (braun) thames aguilar, villar sogard, arcia, shaw perez, yelich cain santana (braun) with Phillips in AAA is workable. Having sogard who can play 2b SS, perez 3b 2b LF, and even Thames with some LF makes many things possible. You also can't discount the fact that yelich can play cf and cain has enough arm for rf. Aguilar is braun insurance and #1 ph but that's valuable.
  20. PLEASE BE TRUE!!!!!! I'd love cobb, oh and call it an offseason. People ask if we can contend with blah blah blah... I dont think we can truly contend without Santana in the 3 hole.
  21. Are we trading Woodruff? Anderson Davies Chacin with Nelson coming back at some point. You want 2? To push out woodruff and Chacin? I mean if you want to archer or salazar are 5-6 mil, then big 3? Not Darvish means another what 15-20 mil. 20-26 mil makes us pretty poor. I'd say that rules out Duffy at 15 mil. Hope you like 2b and the pen as is.
  22. "Your bigger concern is if we deal Santana our rh power is zapped the moment Braun goes down, and yet you talk about cutting Perez who hit lefties at a .316/.342/.447 clip last year? I'd cut Villar who didn't hit a lick vs. lefties last year. Perez is better defensively in OF, and IF than Villar. Opportunities will be down for him in 2018, but barring a deal for a 2B, a 2B platoon of Perez/Sogard is far superior to Villar/Sogard. I keep Aguilar too, and trade Thames if the plan is to move Braun to 1B. Aguilar has proven invaluable as late inning PH bat. That's a skill not many possess." Perez put up some bipolar splits last year that dont reflect as strongly in the full body of work. I like his multi position capabilities and I even pushed for him to play 2b because it seemed like the better stack than leading with villar. I just dont see them giving up on villar. I have but that doesn't seem to jive with the FO message. I'd keep aguilar as well. I'd carry 2 1b and 4 of counting Braun as an OF but playing him mostly at 1b. Santana yelich cain sat 20-25 games last year. No reason for phillips to be active for that little run. You'd regularly see thames aguilar as ph options or aguilar braun. I'd try to ph aguilar every day. If you add a 2b it leaves 2 bench spots. Sogard is the best bench SS. Villar they won't give up on. Led to perez. If you don't add a 2b, broxton or perez stay if they wont give up on villar. I don't know if we could get a bite on villar broxton perez or if they are headed to being drops like scooter.
  23. I think the meticulously planned out part is as accurate as it gets. Even HH pointed to dominos falling in succession and in 1 hour yelich cain fell. A B are done. C is an arm, buy or santana trade? Multiple options for each option likely in place if not all but completed. D 2b? Who knows. Stearns does. All the leaked info points towards him talking to nearly everyone. Testing the market, finding prices and trade values, putting together the best path to the end result he wants from the offseason. Path 1 2 3... with options off of each path. I'd love all these teams to play chicken on Santana. Watch stearns drop broxton and a ticket for harrison, buy cobb, buy oh, cut perez, cut gallardo, demote phillips and away we go.
  24. Because I grant, easily, that Stearns isn't stupid enough to back homself into a corner. Because I dont see us as actually being backed into a corner. Because in no way are we desperate to trade Santana. Because the OF options league wide are now gone. I honestly don't want to trade santana the more I think about it. My point about starting Aguilar at 1st when he's defensively a DH is that I don't expect Braun to be worse. My point about villar and thames is that we've limped defensively at more important positions than 1b so continuing to limp at 1b isn't close to an absurd notion. You talk about this as if Braun is an elite 152 game dependable starter in the OF. He's the guy we don't want. The contract we are stuck on because eating salary on it is insane as is giving it away. We don't even have 4 starting OF as is. We basically have 3.5. Braun is injury prone. Phillips is a 4th. Broxton is a 4th. There's no rush on Phillips and Broxton leaving for nothing wouldn't even sting. I also don't understand why Braun preparing for big innings at 1b will make a long tenured vet lose his ability to play LF. If we can play thames there a rusty braun can play there just fine. The roster can settle in beautifully with 1 moving part. Braun preps for 1b. It's January. I doubt he has never fielded some reps there and I don't know how much notice you'd want to give him. He gets a month plus all of spring training. Again 1 moving part. Pina vogt unchanged Villar sogard unchanged Arcia unchanged Shaw perez unchanged Yelich cain santana.. moving pieces the gg lf plays some cf games like he played all last year. The near gg cf plays some games like 8 in rf. I think cain and yelich can handle sliding over a few games. Braun Thames aguilar ... the only change is thames aguilar play less. You cut or move broxton as phillips is a call up away. If you add a 2b in fa or trade you use villar to backup 2b SS 3b (he's played all 3) and drop or trade perez and broxton or even possibly sogard. Its really not as difficult as you are making it out to be. There are many zero harm ways to make it work. My bigger concern at this point is if we deal santana our rh power is zapped the moment Braun goes down. Cain yelich santana shaw braun/thames/aguilar is fantastic. Cain yelich aguilar/thames shaw not as impressive. If you can make it fit by transitioning a player to 1b, who many want at 1b, played IF, and is willing to play 1b and trading broxton or cutting perez then you aren't desperate in any way. It doesn't take a stretch to make a case for why we shouldn't deal santana even after the 2 additions yesterday. Pretending we are stuck or trapped or leveraged out is just that pretending.
