  1. Since he is in the minor leagues and hasn’t appeared in the majors this year, maybe he can still be traded. But yeah, this move is looking like it’s going to come up snake eyes.
  2. They 5 games out with 4 head to head with the Cardinals who have a very weak schedule the rest of the way. It’s over for the Central absent sweeping those four games
  3. It’s almost like the year of the year of the ”sweep suits” where the Brewers swept a 3 gamer at Wrigley to be 38-34, then wore some garish suits to Pittsburgh, got swept themselves and then dropped 60 of their next 90. The ‘22 Brewers we’re riding high taking the first two games from the Red Sox at Fenway we’re up by 4 in their division, only to drop that last game and go 6-12, defacto lose the Division and be hanging in the 2nd wild card race by a thread.
  4. This season hasn’t been much fun to follow. Won’t be long now, and we can officially stop caring.
  5. Tyrone Taylor has been brutal since May. Way to step up after they DFA'd Cain, the CF door is wide open for him and he refuses to step through.
  6. Maybe you're right and when the dust clears going 1-5 against Pittsburgh and Cincinnati to begin August will have been outcome determinative. It seems sort of funny though to blame a potential failure to make the playoffs on not have beating up on the doormats more. Of course, far simpler would be for the Brewers to beat the teams they're in competition with for the playoff spots, which they really haven't done this season: St. Louis, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Diego and San Francisco (18-25 a .418 win percentage).
  7. Or maybe the true colors are shining through. There's a reason he's 31 with his 4th organization and has 2 plus years of service time.
  8. Again, I don't know what you expect. In 2018 the year the Brewers won 96 games they went 20-18 against the Pirates and Reds. If you think they should beat a weak division opponents 60% of the time or better, good on you. It just doesn't happen often.
  9. Math homey. 23 wins in 41 games is .560. Put another way, you think they should be beating the bottom three teams in their division at a higher rate?
  10. 23-18 is .560 baseball. I don't know what more anyone can realistically expect? Maybe you think they should be pounding those teams at a .750 clip? Maybe if the Brewers played better against non-door mats like the Giants (1-4), Phillies (2-4) etc?
  11. They are 23-18 against those teams, they are leading the season series against the Reds and Pirates, and could tie the season series with the Cubs if they win today. The Cubs and Pirates while not strong teams, aren't in the same class of ineptitude as the Reds.
  12. Geez, I get pitchers needing to settle in, but can Ashby get through the first without throwing 40 pitches.
  13. The Cubs probably are not as far away from being competitive as one would think. They have a group of nice hitters: Happ, Hoerner, Wisdom. Franmil Reyes has been good in the past and for them this week. Although they'll probably be penny smart and pound foolish and resign Contreras, Thompson, Steele, Stroman and Hendricks four pieces of a decent rotation. A couple of free agent signings could get them back to respectability, then they'll be armed with a Top 10 draft pick next year with two OFers on the MLB Top 100 on their way as well.
  14. Preller is likely smoking cigarettes by the cart-load worrying about the next six weeks. There are not too many GMs who are allowed to tank for four years, fire and hire 3 different managers, trade away nearly entire draft classes from the tanking years and yet have one playoff appearance and zero playoff wins in 7 years at the helm.
  15. I would suggest as a counter example, that a minor league player coming over from an ACC College program, who then in 500 minor league ABs has produced a .329/.407/.471 line, does not have much more to prove against the retreads and organizational depth type players that make up AAA baseball.
  16. Probably because Mejia is 25, a pitcher, and someone who they thought well enough of to trade for in the off-season. Coming off a suspension he hasn’t pitched in months so he needs to get stretched out. As for Reetz, the Narvaez injury and Severino DFA goofed up their depth, but Omar is going to be back on Saturday, I believe Severino is with AAA as a non-roster player, so they don’t necessarily need Reetz as much as they did his roster spot. I don’t follow the minor leagues close enough to know, has Cousins pitched in back to back games? Coming off an elbow injury I’m sure they want to ramp him up slowly but he needs to be able to go in back to back days to be in this bullpen. Probably one of their September adds.

  18. Man, Wainwright has been on some kind of roll in his last 5 starts dating back to the end of July. 34 Innings, a 1.85 ERA, 32 Ks, 2 BBs, 1 HR allowed, and that includes a start where the Yankees blew him up for 6 earnies in 4 innings. Incredible that he's the same guy that looked absolutely finished way back in 2017 when he was 35.
  19. Dinelson Lamet > Jason Alexander > Trevor Kelley. I suppose it's water under the bridge at this point, but golly they could sure use Lamet as that long-man right now.

  21. As a point of reference, when Trent Grisham was called up in 2019, he immediately went into the starting lineup in game 110, and played in 51 of the remaining 52 games and was a starter in 35 of them. I really don't know why anyone suggests the manager "misuses" players on the Brewers roster. It flies in the face of seasons worth of contrary information. Believe your own eyes and use logic, the Brewers have tablets in the dugout with video on them, if they're that reliant on information its implausible the coaching staff isn't aware of player splits, player tendencies, matchups, etc. Thus, there is a reason why Hiura plays against the pitchers he does, and there is a reason the relief pitchers pitch when they do. Rather, it is an indictment of the quality of reporters on the Brewers beat (McCalvy, Rosiak, Sophia, etc). that they haven't asked the manager those "why" questions yet. P.S. Apparently one of those why questions was asked yesterday: https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2022/08/17/why-hasnt-keston-hiura-been-milwaukee-brewers-lineup-more/10343102002/
  22. Well, in fairness the last time the Brewers faced some also rans (Pirates and Reds) it didn’t turn out very well for Milwaukee did it? At some point the Brewers have to start consistently winning series against good clubs. There isn’t a path to the playoffs this year beating up in the doormats in their division.
  23. This is the same as the threads about the Yelich extension. If they called him up now and he’s a great player, there will be a cadre of folks wanting to tar and feather the front office for burning service time in 2022. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
  24. Really? He's sure doing a terrible job then with 3 regulars at. 300 or less, and six more hitters at .326 or below. To be sure, this year's Brewers were built to rely on pitching, fundamentals and three run homers. What I believe you meant to say is, Stearns is likely to remodel the team into one that focuses on OBP and contact. Which is very likely true.
